A dark, wet november night brought me to Winchester, VA & I found the John B Hayes Tobbaconist shop. I have smoked cigars off and on for years in multiple countries and multiple cities in the USA. I walked into the shop and knew at once that the selection and knowledge of the staff & its customers was diverse and extensive. The weeks that followed as a return customer I discovered that the shop is a place of real honest Virgina character with an impressive cast of characters from far and wide, young and old & experienced and inexperienced smokers. If you want a good smoke and a good time with that smoke there is a place for you to sit and enjoy an experience. The guys and gals wouldnt have it any other way!

John B. Hayes - Tobacconist is like the next best thing to relaxing at home. Comfortable atmosphere, good people and a great cigar and pipe selection. The staff is top notch, friendly, and knowledgeable. Matthew (shop owner) is always thinking of ways to improve his shop and cigar selections. Youll find nothing better in these parts of Virgina. I really enjoy the special cigar events with vendors and new product, this is always great way to learn or improve your cigar or pipe knowledge. I love trying the new products and getting other peoples thoughts on them as well.

I am sure the review about the employee watching you has been addressed by the owner. Several employees are no longer there. Good luck finding quality cigars at 7-11. As for the review of the humidor purchase. I believe you should have given the owner a chance to make this right. Knowing the owner I am sure he would have. Im completely appalled by the conduct of this shop. While I was in Iraq, my wife decided to buy a humidor for me since I didnt want to spend the money on one for myself. They convinced her to buy a "$500 humidor for half price" because it was "a little scratched up." When I finally got home, it turns out to be a scratched up version of a $60 humidor you can buy in any bodega. I am absolutely furious, because I cant tell my wife she got taken because it would devastate her.

I live in California so Im not able to shop here regularly or I would but whenever I visit my family in the area I love coming to JB Hayes. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and welcoming and the cigar and pipe tobacco selection is absolutely top notch! I wish there were a shop as nice as this near me in So Cal. I look forward to my next trip to Winchester to visit JB Hayes.

You cant go wrong in this Cigar Shop. Mathew is so knowledgeable he can boggle your mind with what be knows. Great selection of cigars, the staff are friendly, and when not with other customers will sit down and shoot the bull making your stay that much more enjoyable. Prices are very reasonable. Give this place a visit, you wont be disappointed.

Easily the best tobacco shop ive ever been to. One of the shining gems of downtown Winchester. Friendly service, relaxing environment, and huge selection. Not to mention its better quality pipe tobacco than anywhere else ive tried. Also, ask for a pipe tobacco blend called Birchfields. Matthew helped me make a customized blend, and its awesome.

asked the clerck what cigar would be good for a neophite. he recommended the chapagne from austria. I feel it was a good choice. and he gave me free matches :) plus my buddy called right when i went to purchase and asked him if he wanted one. he said yes! and I said when. he said...ok enough...

Such a relaxing environment, Matthew Hayes goes out of his way to make sure everyone is satisfied, and his knowledge on cigars and pipes are amazing. And the selection is great plenty of hard to find quality cigars. You wont find a better shop anywhere in this area!!

I love this shop. The cigars are displayed in old school display cases. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. The chairs are inviting and comfortable for hanging out and enjoying a stick or two.

Matt, the owner, is super helpful. They have a wonderful selection. Uncle chops is very friendly and likes to make you feel at home. There is a little lounge area where you can enjoy your cigar.
