Westhampton Pastry Shop is one of the finest bakeries in America and one of the trasures of Richmond. Owner operated by Boots Rogers, it is one of the few large scale retail bakeries left around and I predict is irreplaceable when Boots retires. Why? Because its way too much work for anybody else, and that is if you had the skill and experience. Nobody makes doughnuts better than Boots either. Far too complicated and trouble for most retail bakeries, mainly because you cant make doughnuts in an oven, theyre fried. Unlike other doughnuts you find in grocery stores and KK, these doughnuts are still sheeted on a table and cut with a hand cutter, and thats why these are the best yeast raised doughnuts that youll find anywhere. Not frozen, not extruded, but by hand, fresh, every morning! Lastly, you dont tell the artist how to paint, just be glad that you can still get the masterpiece, whenever he can have it ready. Or, you can go pick up some doughnuts at the grocery store....Boots doesnt care. Hes going to sell those 100 dozen that he makes every morning with our without you.

Had the worst cake experience ever with this bakery. Ordered my sons 1st year birthday cake two weeks ahead of time. They gave me a bundt cake and did not tell me thats what it was!!! It was filled with icing in the middle. The artwork on the picture provided was soo shodily done. The color i had asked was not what they did but i took the cake because i really didnt have time to figure out something else too many errands to run. I hoped nothing else was wrong with the cake until I cut the cake and the middle started to sink and my guest were surprised and exclaimed that it was sinking!!! Meanwhile I paid $50 for the cake 30 for the cake and 20 for the deco (which was deplorable! based on pictures i had seen of what they can do). I wish i could post photos as i have photos of the sinking cake!! Cake was dry too and not good! Lesson learnt: I will stick to whole foods and Kroger - never go wrong. Atleast their standard is guaranteed. I always believed in specialty bakeries but this experience, worst ever!!!

Their donuts are fantastic! There are only 2 different kinds, glazed or chocolate, very good or unbelievably good. We have made these a Saturday morning tradition in our home and our kids cant wait for Saturday. We had previously been big fans of the great Richmond tradition, Rainbow Donuts. However they are now closed. Who knew that this loss would lead us to a donut shop that far exceeds all others in making the ring-shaped pastries. West Hamptons donuts are deliciously rich, but light in texture. Just one donut is very filling. --Richmond Donut Connoisseurs

What can you say when a donuts place says its open at a certain time, but has no selection? I arrived early in the morning around 7am and they said they wouldnt have anything available until 8. When I came back at 8 it was 30mins before any donuts were ready. When I did finally get some donuts they were average at best. Why be open if youre not going to have product? Especially when that product is nothing to brag about. I know I wont be back, and my suggestion is that; unless you have a lot of time to burn, just find someplace else.

My husband and I used this bakery for our wedding and not only were the owners very unaccommodating(and somewhat plain rude), but after we revamped our whole plan for our dream cake so our figurines would fit correctly, they still were completely misaligned! The cake ended up looking completely foolish and poorly planned. Do not let this rude unprofessional team ruin your wedding day!

We ordered 100 Hot Cross Buns for Palm Sunday. I must have told them the wrong date for pick up. When we walked in to pick up our order, we all realized the mistake. Diana checked with the baker and they started to work right then on our order - mind you this is 4pm on Saturday. Diana delivered the delicious buns to our home that evening at 8pm. How is that for SERVICE??!!!

I normally love everything I buy from Westhampton Bakery. I bought a Strawberry pie last week and was terribly disappointed. Instead of a mouth full of strawberries I had a mouth full of jam. There were no halved strawberries in the pie. The best description of the pie would be strawberry jam pie with whipped cream.

I have purchased Westhampton Pastry Shops coconut cakes for the last several holidays and they have been OUTSTANDING!. They are just as good as the ones my grandmother use to make (tasty and moist) and I look forward to the holidays just so I can have a slice (or two).

A friend brought me some "Lady Locks", otherwise known as cream horns, today. They are the best Ive had in decades! If you like them, get them here, not at the grocery store. They were light, flaky and drenched in powdered sugar. Not to be beat!

been visiting here since 1970? the eclairs were always the best ever! NOT so any longer. way smaller, dry, mealy pastry and hardly any icing. another "go to" gone. pity.
