I always check out the local bookstore when in a new town and Prince is a perfect example of why. I asked about a book and the woman working there not only knew right where it was, but we had a great conversation about the author. Upon learning that I was new to Norfolk, she went and got me a great news mag with listings for local bands, museums, events, bars, etc, as well as a calendar for the local art house cinema. She was so friendly and knowledgeable, and the selection/ layout of the store is great. I cant wait to finish the book so I have a good reason to go back.

Excellent independent bookstore. Good selection of titles and authors. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Strong nonfiction, fiction, mystery and childrens sections. Staff recommended a good mystery title that I did not know about. The bookstore shares floorspace with the comfortable Lizard cafe. A good place to find a new author, buy a book and read it over coffee. Downtown, in an upscale area next to the Mariott and the U.S. Customs building. A short 3 minute walk from two Norfolk tourist attractions -- USS Wisconsin and the Waterside center.

Maybe Im spoiled because the last few places Ive lived had the most fabulous independent bookstores, but this place is just mediocre for me. The selection is minimal and it seemed dreary. Im a huge advocate of independents but this one is lacking compared to what Im used to.

In addition to being a quaint bookstore, Prince Books also houses The Lizard Cafe. It is a nice change of pace from larger eateries, and the food was fantastic. The service was exceptional, and its a great alternative for guests of the various hotels in the area.
