The fish have ich here! I have never been more disappointed and angry about a transaction than I was with this Petland location. I bought fish there on May the 27th - 4 rummy nosed tetras and a rubbernose pleco. Being a marine biology student, I was naturally curious about the coral fragments on sale there. I asked where they came from, and the guy working the fishtanks deflected, saying they got them from a company. I persisted and asked how they were harvested and he responded, somewhat aggressively, asking why I wanted to know. I told him curiosity and he gave me a vague reply about them being sustainably harvested from the wild. I should have just left then, I was getting bad vibes from the place. But I asked for fish and he started pulling them out of the tank. It was only after he already had them out of the tank that he decided to mention that the rummy-nosed tetras had ich. Again, I should have just walked out, but my brain was addled with the heat and I didnt. Now, Im no idiot around fish. Im a marine biology student, Ive kept fish for years, and I work in a marine laboratory. But with my best ministrations, not a single fish survived more than 12 hours, and most of them were dead within the first three. I bleached the tank, boiled the gravel and equipment, and soaked everything in salt-water for hours. I purchased fish from another location a few days later, and guess what? The ich is back, in full force, and they are literally going belly up as Im sitting here typing. Whatever strain of ich Petland has is really nasty and hard to get rid of. Long story short - shady customer service, sick fish, ICH. If you want fish that are going to live any length of time, dont shop here.

This is a review after doing research on their reputable breeders list. We got our Shiba Inu at this store about a year and a half ago without doing any research on this place. So, a few days ago I found my paperwork my dog came with and I decided to look into it. Our dog Aiya came from a man named Ray Yoder who isnt on any websites, is not registered anywhere in Ohio (where she came from) and the closest I could come to finding this person was on a wedsite about dog offences in Ohio where this guy was NOT a licensed breeder. Also, it says that she had a check up at Quail Creek Kennel in Charm, ohio. Which was on a list on the Humane Society under Horrible Hundred 2016 puppy mills in which they stated Quail Creek Kennel, LLC, Charm, Ohio Bought more than 100 puppies from unlicensed breeders; supplies puppies to Petland stores. Also, they changed their kennel name several times to get away with the unlicensed breeding. So, no these are NOT legit dogs they are selling and even though she came with AKC paperwork-in our paperwork it states they received her under the American Canine Association- ACA is not a "reputable" dog registration/breeding organization. Essentially, ACA is one of those organizations where people, upset with AKC for not registering their undersized/mixbred/unhealthy dogs, decided to create their own. They make you pay a fee and they send you this little registration thing saying your pet is registered. So, its an easy process unlike AKC which checks background, their home, and kennels. I hope this helped anyone looking to get a puppy from here. Its expensive and youre most likely getting a puppy from a mill.

I bought a puppy from petland. I have never had a worse experience. After I researched it, the puppy was way overpriced. I had to keep worming him over and over. For a store bought pet, I have never had that problem. It also bit my daughters finger. Then I had a personal problem when my father in law wrecked my wifes brand new car. All of the sudden we had to come up with a lot of money we didnt have. I called Petland to let them know I was having trouble. they said it was ok if they were late, but there would be late fees. I said that was fine. It was a very stressful time. So the owner called me a while later and was very pushy. I was trying to work some things out with other debts and was busy, and he was very condescending. I said I would call him back and that I would try to figure something out. Since I was behind, and he didnt get a payment right away he went behind my back, and found one of the credit card numbers I had used before and charged 2 separate payments and 2 late fees without asking. That bank charged me 4 $29 fees for each charge petland made, adding up to $116 dollars, which just compounded my situation, when I was about to settle up 2 days later anyway. When I called to ask why somebody used my card, the owner was rude, condescending, and basically made fun of me for having a money problem in the first place. I have never had this bad of an experience with ANY business EVER!!! I will never do business with them again. I am just going to pay my dog off and be done with them.

As a caveat, Ive never dealt with them as far as mammals or reptiles. But for marine things, theyre hard to beat. I bought a Lord Acan here on a whim when I was stocking up on salt, because it was two heads for $20, with awesome coloring. I didnt expect too much at that price, but three weeks later it was growing a new head, and now, after 2 months, its fully established in my tank. The experience was good enough that since then Ive purchased 6 other frags here, and with the exception of one zoa that got a fungus and died 3 weeks later, theyve all been thriving. Most recently I purchased a 2"x2" green star polyp colony, and after only 3 weeks and it already has 8 new heads and about 10 more on the way (I know they grow quickly, but thats VERY quick! It was obviously healthy). You cant beat the prices for some rare, colorful frags, and theyre very knowledgeable about the corals. They have frags starting at $5 (for some small ones that need a little TLC), and offer them at $10, $20, $30, $40, and $50. You can also buy more established corals for $40-$200. My only qualm with them is that they dont guarantee anything marine, so when a $20 skunk shrimp I bought died in 24 hours, I didnt get a refund or store credit. I can understand their caution since some people might have sucky parameters or do a poor job of acclimating, but I even offered to bring in a water sample, and they wouldnt do it. I feel like that policy should be changed.

The petland in Fairfax used to have very adorable and healthy dogs, but today I went to visit them and all of the dogs are insanely priced and probably even from puppy mills. Some dogs were sitting in the cage with their own poop that looked like it was sitting there for days. This place needs to be inspected by an organization asap. 3 years ago the dogs were healthy and in the mid $2000- mid $5000, which is insanely priced because you could say they were somewhat healthy and worth the quality. Now the prices are the same, but the health of the dogs is unbelievable. I wouldnt take a puppy even if it were free due to their issues let alone pay thousands of dollars just to spend more on vet care and have a dog that will probably not live past 2 years! I will not be returning to this petland location and I would recommend you do the same or take a look yourself at how disturbing the environment these dogs and other animals live in. Truly DISAPPOINTED and DISGUSTED by this. The staff wasnt any help as well. They just stand in a corner and talk ignoring the health of their animals and satisfaction of their customers. Its also very confusing and misleading how the owner responds handful to the reviews with 4-5 stars, but choses to ignore the tons of comments addressing the truth about his "pet store" About to contact the USDA veterinary services because animal control needs to be involved in this INHUMANE situation.
