Ive been here a couple times for a quick sweet treat and it seemed fine. Today I ordered a black bean burger with GF buns and jalapenos. Ive accepted, as a vegan, that many vegan restaurants tend to be bland and tasteless and that is why I ordered jalapenos on the side. I got the meal to go. I was so hungry that in the parking lot I began ravaging the burger. After the first bite I noticed that the jalapenos were forgotten and knew that this was another super bland option for a meal. It truly tasted like a bread sandwich with onions. I couldnt eat anymore after just a couple bites. Also, the buns crumbled immediately leaving a mess in the box. I went back inside to get a fork and ask if its always this wack. I asked for the manager and when she came I explained that this disgusting non warm jalapenoless (lol) item did not satisfy me as a customer. She said that the seasoning was most likely left out of this burger batch and next time theyll give me a free one. I never ever want free stuff, so I politely declined and ordered the mac n cheese. When I got the mac I went outside to the car and tried a bite. Disgusting again! Barely warm and old. Plus the cheese that comes on the nachos was suppose to be on it! It was so bland and old, again I couldnt eat it. I had to leave so I called in to the manager and explained the gross experience and asked why the Mac tasted plain and barely warm with hardened edges. She argued with me, refused to give her name and cut me off multiple times before hanging up on me. I get it! From the moment I walked in they seemed to blow me off, almost in a discriminatory way. Yes Im a Rastafarian and you might be gay or whatever, and thats cool, just dont disrespect me as a potential customer and not take me serious. They might as well put a sign in the window refusing certain individuals. I felt like these workers would rather not have me as a customer and thats fine. Rolling their eyes and not minding that my experience was foul, theyll never get another cent from me (a long time vegan). I might recommend city cakes for a bday cake, but have never tried them so Id rather not.

I would give ZERO stars if I could. My parents and I went in here, sat down and ordered my dream wedding cake in January for my April 8th wedding. Two weeks before the wedding my mother called to confirm the order and the drop off place and time and thy said everything was good to go for my wedding day. When my husband and I showed up to our reception with our cake topper my dad told me "theres no cake here" it was almost 4:45 at this time and we had scheduled the time to be dropped off at 4:30. My mother was on the phone with this place, she had the phone on speaker and I head he girl she was talking to say "I just dont see any orders for today" they seriously did not make my cake hat we had ordered moths in advance and confirmed two weeks before the wedding. Once my mother finally got on the phone with the manager he said he didnt know what happened but they do not have my cake made. Eventually an hour or so after our reception started the manager showed up with a two layered circular cake that was not even close to what we ordered. We had ordered a 4 layer squared vanilla cake with raspberry and lemon filling, and that is NOT what I had at my wedding. We ended up getting a full refund and did not have to pay for the cake that did show up to the wedding, but a full refund is not my wedding cake, we chose this place because of the amazing gluten free options because my mother in law is celiac and my husband is gluten intolerant as is his family, and we were all looking forward to this cake at the wedding and in January after we ordered it I couldnt stop talking about it. Dont count on this place to show up with your cake to your wedding ON your wedding day, as a bride I couldnt have been more disappointed.

I really liked a lot of things about City Cakes. I only gave 3 stars for a couple of reasons. First: Price. Im sorry, but $12 for a black bean burger and a small side of vegan mac n cheeze? Im not a cheapskate, I swear. But when I drop 14-15 (I tipped 2$) dollars on lunch, I guess I just expect it to wow me a bit more. If Id gotten the identical meal for under $10 Id be happy as a clam. Second: This isnt a terribly big deal, but I like to have more condiment options. As near as I could tell (and to be fair I didnt ask) there was a bottle of Cholula and some salt and pepper. That being said the black bean burger was good if typical. (mushy with a sort of southwest flavoring) Not mind blowing, but prepared fresh, fresh flavorful toppings (lettuce, red onion, tomatoes and cucumbers). I was surprised that it came out as more of a traditional sandwich than a burger though. (No, bun but really tasty whole grain bread. Just call it a black bean "sandwich" and I wouldnt have flinched.) It was pretty tasty, but I would have liked some mustard or maybe vegenaise. The mac n cheese was pretty good, but seemed very expensive for the portion. (Id say it was just about 1 C.) and it was $3.50. Overall I had a good experience. Friendly staff and a clean place. Pretty cool to see the bakery in operation too. I almost feel bad knocking them down on price. And maybe Im finally just becoming that grumpy old man Id always dreamed of being, but $14 for the lunch I had seemed steep and to be honest it will prevent me from becoming a regular.

I was really really really excited to finally get downtown to City Cakes after hearing such amazing things about it. I purchased 4 flavors of donuts (the only place Ive found that makes gf donuts, and the whole reason I went), 1 scone & a cinnamon roll. I got the donuts in lemon/coconut (good lemon flavor, but the coconut wasnt really needed), orange (also good flavor), maple (great flavor) & vanilla. The flavors were good, but the texture was too dense, even for a cake donut. BUT, since its been so long since Ive had a donut, they were acceptable, but not as good as Id hoped. The scone was maple - it was awful - the texture was dry/crumbly and had no flavor other than the maple frosting. It was also overly salty. I threw it away after 1 small bite. Despite the other baked goods not being what I expected, I was still looking forward to trying the cinnamon roll. I was not surprised when it was dense, dry & just dreadful. My girls thought it was funny when I couldnt cut into it because it was so hard... Gluten-free baked goods do NOT have to taste like ground-up cardboard held together with Elmers glue. I am just a Mom who makes gluten-free baked goods for myself & my daughter. I do not have a business, I just enjoy baking. And, I have served my gluten-free baked goods to friends who didnt realize that they were gluten-free. I will say that the regular/vegan brownie & peanut butter brownie got good reviews from the others in the family.
