The customer service at BYU Outdoors Unlimited left much to be desired. I had to approach the employees many times and ask for their help as I had never visited the store before and they acted as if I should have known what I was doing and were not friendly. When the time came to check out, the two employees at the computer continued socializing for about one minute until they decided to help us. We had planned to use our starving student card to get a discount and when I tried to use it I was told that it was not valid and the deal with the starving student card hadnt been valid for about two years (even though my card is from 2017). If there is a discrepancy between the Starving Student card company and BYU outdoors unlimited, it should be handled between these two entities and not with the customer. I also have a friend who got a starving student card just to use it a BYU outdoors unlimited and subsequently was told on the same day that I went that she could not use it either. In my opinion, this card should be honored as long as it is printed on the starving student card as it is not the fault of the customer. I hope that these issues can be resolved soon, as the equipment worked great and the price is reasonable. I will give this store another chance only because it fills my needs, not because of the customer service I received.

Dont go there for quality bike work. They messed up on all three different things I asked for (brake bleed, new derailleur cable, and hub rebuild). 1. On the brake bleed, after they did it, the brakes were filled with bubbles and were completely gone with any uphill riding on the bike. The worst part about that was that when I went back in to ask them to re-bleed them, they argued with me and tried to tell me that that was normal. They finally did it correctly (they had to do it THREE TIMES!) and now my brakes are working 100%. But to convince me that its okay not to have brakes after I go up any hill was extremely dangerous. Had I crashed, they could have been liable. 2. They also redid the shifter cable on my XX1 derailleur and didnt even thread the cable through correctly, I left the shop without checking their work and when I got to the trailhead, realized that it didnt work and I had to buy another cable. 3. The rear hub - they said they cleaned it and fixed it, but it rode exactly the same or a bit worse as before. I just had a friend look at it and he said it has a bent axle. He was shocked that bike mechanics werent able to catch that. Ill never go there again, unless its to rent a tent or something else like that. Definitely wont go there for bike stuff.

I have fallen in love with mountain biking because of Outdoors Unlimited! Being a noob is hard when the snobby shops either give you attitude, or gouge you for every buck possible. Outdoors Unlimited staff not only are extremely helpful and courteous, but They are not paid on commission, so they are very fair in their opinions. Besides, I cant tell you how many times they just fixed minor stuff while I waited, with NO CHARGE !!! Other shops were giving me long wait estimates. Our riding season is short here in the great white north, any down time absolutely kills me! I can justify a Professional quality bike, because repairs and upgrades are so cheap. My drive train is now all SRAM XO because I could afford to throw it on as I found the deals, since the installation, and turn around time is so reasonable. Some might be concerned having top quality bikes worked on at Outdoors Unlimited, but since the staff worked the Tour de Utah as mobile mechanics, what more could you ask for?

I noticed in some other reviews people were dissatisfied with the service that Outdoors Unlimited provides. Unlike them, I love this store. The rental and shop labor prices are VERY low. I wouldnt be surprised if they actually dont make money on their repairs. This place is definitely not out to make a profit. They are owned by BYU, after all. The employees are very fun-loving and helpful. Theyll let you use their tools, and maybe even help you do small repairs for free, depending on what it is or if you are nice to them. Yes, the bicycle maintenance can seem bad, but what do you expect when you bring in a Low-quality bike and expect it to run like a high-quality racing machine? Yes, the shop may not seem that professional. But honestly, the employees are young college students. Give them a break. For what it is (a bike/ski/sports rental, repair, and retail shop) and for the great prices (200 dollars for a used fiberglass canoe? Heck yeah!) I give this establishment 5/5 stars.

Overall : bikes ok, bike maintenance terrible, customer service absolute joke. Rented a road bike for my wife over the weekend, within the first couple of miles tube pinched a flat. The side wall of the tire clearly had been no good to begin with. I should have checked the tires before leaving when I initially left the shop but I assumed an outdoors rental shop would have that covered. When I took the bike in hoping to get an exchange, not only was that not offered but right off the get go the first employee I spoke with talked down on me like I had no clue and told me I would have to pay to replace their mistake. Next employee more polite but still no common sense on customer service. Ended up paying to replace an old tire that needed replaced before I took the bike out. Recommend looking somewhere else for outdoor rentals if you care at all about being treated with respect.

I was there today and got helped with my bottom bracket! Great help, they know of what they are talking about. And if they dont know, they will get you with someone that knows about your problem and wont disappoint you. Also as customers we need to explain well our problems, their staff is well experienced on bikes but that doesnt mean that they will know your bike and your riding style (if you are rough on it or super careful)like you do. So dont expect them to understand whats wrong with your bike if your explanation was something along the lines of, the "little thing" that holds this "big round part" has a weird sound. Make sure your point get across by using the right words and names. This will improve your experience and satisfaction.

I was recommended Outdoors Unlimited by a buddy of mine They had great customer service. The bike mechanic I talked to (Matt?) told me everything I needed to know about parts and pricing, and was super friendly and timely when I went to pick the bike up. He told me what was wrong and let me know what I should do to keep it in good shape, and even called me telling me what work they were planning to do. When I rented skis, the employees were very friendly and the whole process was a lot easier than I expected. highly recommended

They have great boats, NRS quality. But they miscounted how many paddles we needed (forgot to take into account the guides) and we were short. Also, make sure you ask to use the big barrel pumps. They gave us a tiny electric pump and four mini pumps to pump up 9 6-person rafts. It took us an hour and a half to get them inflated, and most of the boats were still flat and folded in the rapids, dumping half of the passengers. Good service.
