Today was 4/3/11 my birthday, I had asked my son to go with me after bragging to him what a nice place this was for archery practice. When we arrived I was instructed by the people at the desk we were not allowed to use broad heads at all. I told him I had been there two weeks prior and remembered the warning and again I said we had only target tip arrows for practice. After being there a couple of hours and countless adjustments to both of our bows, here comes the owner of the place in an ATV and went straight to our paper target and started poking holes with his finger ever broadening the round holes that had been made with our target tip arrows, and insisted that we were using broad heads. I invited him to check our equipment which was in plain view and to please check the tips to see if he found one single broad head, I even picked up the group of arrows we had been shooting and indicated to him there were no broad heads. He went back to the paper target again poking bigger and bigger holes in it and made his determination that we in fact had been using broad heads. By then I lost my cool and told him he was calling me a liar and his reply was he was an avid archer and knew when he was looking at a target arrow hole versus a broad head. I told him again he was wrong and doubly wrong for accusing people without proof. He stated the paper target was all the proof he needed (sure after poking holes in it with his finger) He then told me that he had spent over two hundred dollars on the foam backing to be allowing broad head use which would destroy them. I told him the target backing was full of holes when we got there and we did not do what he said we did. He then asked me a stupid question..."TELL ME HOW I CAN PREVENT PEOPLE FROM USING BROADHEADS ON MY TARGETS?" If he would use his head for other than his baseball cap and if he would take note of the equipment people were using before opening his stupid mouth, he would notice that the overhead cover for the archery range has at least four upright posts, not to mention the cross beams...."INSTALL A SUVEILANCE CAMERA YOU STUPID MORON!" If you are that concerned for your equipment then put a camera or cameras in the right place end of story. Instead you chose to open your stupid mouth and brag of your expertise in archery which if I dont have any and can tell a broad head hole from a target tip, then your expertise is worse than mine. I will never return to your place to shoot nor recommend it to anybody else. I would strongly urge people not to go and spend their money where such imbeciles are working and acting like fools. We were the losers this time around all for the irresponsibility of other people that are told not to do something and they go ahead and do it. We were innocent of what he accused us of doing and I dont think that a business like this should be jumping to erroneous conclusions on people without proof of the wrongdoing they might think is going on. Our neighbors next to us in the same range came to our defense and stated to the man we had not been using broad heads, but he was adamant and would not listen. "YOU WILL NEVER SEE A PENNY FROM ME AGAIN!" I this review will keep other honest people from going through the same ordeal as we did today it will be worth it!

A place to shoot is just that i have a Glock .40 and the clips we the same as the rest any wear else. The CHL course is cheaper and held more at the bulit hole. The handgun side of the range was ok. The pros over the bulit hole would be that there is a divider between you and the person shooting next to you, but the wire system they use to hold the target is a little shaky. By saying that i mean it could use a little work done on it. I went with my wiffe and co worker the wire system that they have has a wire attached to the wall at the end of the range and you slide this object up at your end to get the target to slide to the distance you wish to shoot at. the only problem is that some of the wires are a little loose and it is tricky geting you target to the distance you would like or back. If you are taller the wire is some what in the way and the divders between the shooter are a little closer than i would perfer and the rounds that you shoot come back on you. But at the bulit whole other peoples rounds hit you. This range is also easier to find and has a great location to the loop. I recomend this range for any thing you shoot they have a nice skeet and rifel range that is second to none and for the few short comings on the pistol range how i see it is you have to pick your poison. I have chossen to wear a hat to shild my rounds so that i can shoot and not have to wait on any cold ranges while kids play with their targets at the bulit hole. The staff has a stand off additude when you come in but will help you and answer any questions you may have and help you as you need. I like that i dont much care for people to tell me stories with there heads up my a## when i walk in some were if you want pay more for rounds buy them at any range and if you have questions ask them but you could of just picked up a book and learned a lot more.

5 Stars for sure. This is a great place to shoot, to buy weapons, and to get training. My wife and I go here week after week (a 30 minute drive for us) because it is such a great place. I recommend it to all who ask me, "Wheres a good place to shoot?". Johnny Castro (manager) taught my LTC class. He is ex-Marine, and very down to earth. His wife works there, and has always been helpful. Alan is one of the instructors (my wife and I took a class from him, and he was a range master during my LTC class): he is always respectful and open to any questions. I like the range masters (for pistol, which is where we go). One is Larry: hes ex-military like me. Although he has many tattoos, dont let that intimidate you: he is always open to questions. Moreover, Larry never lets anything escape his notice when hes range master. Keith is also always helpful, and is always watching to make sure the range is safe. There are no hysterics from the pistol range masters: safety is what they always emphasize. They enforce the reasonable range rules even-handedly and without drama. I have brought my 12 year old son and 15 year old daughter to both the pistol and archery ranges. You can adjust the length to the target on the fly. Moreover, you can staple your own target onto the target whenever you wish. I have never, not once in 20+ visits, had a bad day of shooting at the pistol range, nor at the archery range. A Place to Shoot is an absolute gem for San Antonio. Come out and shoot, and youll soon see: this is an awesome place to get your practie and training. They have served me and my family well.
