One star because Google doesnt have a zero rating. This is a low grade restaurant. Even from the outside it looks low-rent and down at heel. Once inside you will be greeted by a 1990s style interior which is careworn and well overdue a refit. What you wont be greeted by is a member of staff. Youll find someone in the warehouse behind the restaurant. The tables are old and dirty, as are the chairs, the cutlery, the plates and the floor. And when does the Persian experience include 2 large TVs prominently mounted? Now for the food. I was shocked to note that the kebabs are either chicken (expected) or BEEF (shocked!!). Beef kebabs in a Persian restaurant? I ordered the Salad Olivieh for starter. I couldnt taste or feel the texture of chicken in this dish at all. Just pale mush with bread. For main course I ordered Khoresh Bademjan, having been assured by the waitress that it is cooked fresh each day and that it is very good. It arrived suspiciously quickly, and turned out to be Khoresht Gheymeh with a couple of strips of eggplant (aubergine) across the top. Rice was also included. The lamb (or so I was assured) in this dish was tough and stringy. I can only think it had been frozen previously, or was several days old. This is the single worst dish I have had in a restaurant for many years. I shouted across the restaurant and asked for the cheque. The only other diners in the restaurant when I arrived had now left, so it was just me in there. When I was paying I explained that I was not happy. The waitress asked why I had not said anything earlier - I have a policy that I only complain when I am not going to eat anything more from the establishment in question. In summary, if Gordon Ramsay is looking at this, they need your help. Surely no-one goes the Shandiz more than once. They should really focus on the market and give the restaurant up - its only going one way from here. Avoid Shandiz and take your custom elsewhere until they realise that their customers are not dim-wits who will accept any old rubbish put in front of them. And before anyone tells me that I dont understand Persian food, I grew up with it. I understand that this isnt it.

They dont deserve even 1 star. awful food, very poor service, untrained waiting staff, bad smell in dining area. will not ever go there again. low grade food and service.

So, I literally just finished eating at Shandiz 30 minutes ago. The moment I got home, I felt like I needed to write a review for this place. The owner was such a wonderful and kind man. We asked him to bring us his specialties, and our table of nine was floored when the food hit the table. He brought is a giant plate of saffron rice that was cooked perfectly, then a gargantuan platter of beef kebab, lamb shanks, and chicken kebab. For my vegetarian friend, he brought out a bowl of Gorme Sabzi (a Persian specialty of stewed greens and kidney beans). We feasted like kings. What really stood out was the lamb shanks, they were seasoned and cooked perfectly. The chicken kebab was also unbelievably perfect. It was also a pleasure to learn that all of the meat comes from the owners butcher next door where he has a grocery store, and the majority of that meat comes from local farms. After what felt like an all star treatment, he served us complimentary baklava and tea after our meal. I truly wish I lived in Plano so I could eat at this restaurant regularly.

the buffet was awful, all the foods were old and bad and they did not renew the trays. most of the trays were empty with just a little bit of old food left and the refused to renew it. There was also a piece of rubber band in my food when I confronted the manager he said it is from the vegetables. When I also complained about the buffet he said it is almost 4 and toward the end what a ridiculous excuse if you do not have enough food you just have to close the buffet and should not accept new customers it is not like I am paying a cheaper price than those customers who came earlier I am paying the same price and I should receive the same quality foods. In short, Awful buffet, bad quality food , bad quality meat and rubber band found in the food. If I could put a rating lower than 1 I would not hesitate. if anybody wants to eat trashy food this is the place to go

I love mediterranean food and like several mediterranean restaurants, but this was truly terrible. Hummus: The hummus tasted like bean dip from a can, but not as smoothly processed. No tahini flavor, no lemon juice or garlic flavor. Lots of metallic flavor and chickpea texture. Lamb: The meat was taken from very cheap cuts which were very sinewy. Hardly any quality muscle tissue in each bite. I had to search for the good bits meat in each piece. Flavor of the infrequent quality meat bits was good though. Rice: No flavor added. Basically just steamed rice. It is supposed to be flavored with chicken stock, etc. If you like mediterranean food, then Shandiz is not the place for you.

I also do not understand the negative comments. My wife is from Iran and she thought the food was excellent, especially for the price. (So did I and many others I have brought there.) John, Persians do not add chicken stock to their rice. It would be an insult to do so. I did have the lamb dish and for $10.99 they cannot serve the more expensive dishes. Likewise they do not serve their Barg Kabob as it is made from Filet Mignon. The vegetables were very fresh and the wait staff was nice and prompt with their service. Also, for a buffet there is a large selection! This is a wonderful place for a buffet for $10.99, give it a try before the price goes up!

most of the foods on their shelves are expired, make sure to check the expiration date before pay. bought 3 can of yogurt when opened there was mold on top of the yogurt in all three cans. their Baklava is molded also most of the time which seems they never heard of expiration date and food recycling instead of selling it. Their Gormet Sabzi stew has no meat or beans, when I complaint they said we prepare it to be suitable to use by vegetarians too!! how ever there is no note on their stew saying Vegetarian food! this place has to change its quality or shut it down.

I have a full review of this restaurant on Yelp!, but Ill summarize here. Theres not a huge selection for the lunch buffet, but what they do have rarely disappoints. Ive had that buffet probably a half dozen times, and the meat dishes in particular are delicious. Oddly, their iced tea (distinctively American) is very good, well above average for most buffet restaurants. Ive never had an issue with rude employees, and Ive not visited the market, so I cant comment there. If youre a fan of Mediterranean and/or Persian cuisine, give this place a try.
