I walked in store and went shopping for jogging gear and swimming gear. I have bad eyes and wear sunglasses to save myself from being made fun of in public. Well, after about 3 minutes of being in the store I had a redneck police officer walk between me and a 2 foot space as I was comparing Nike harnesses for jogging. I said hello and he just walked by, attempting to intimidate me. Then I was greeted by an associate of Academy. I got the feeling he was there to "keep an eye on me." He was not helpful to my search for a harness that fit my phone and would have a large enough water bottle for training for a marathon. He recommended I shop online, in an attempt to get me out of the store. So, I finally found something that I was happy with and then I went on to look at swimming goggles. Well guess what? I was greeted by another Academy associate and he was fake stocking items about 5 feet from me the entire time I shopped. How do I know this? Well, I grabbed womens swim goggles by mistake and had to switch them out for mens. The Academy associate was nowhere to be found. I have a visual disability and do not like being treated like a criminal while shopping because I LOOK DIFFERENT. I am from Houston and have lived there my entire life and have never felt so profiled in my life. I live in a city rich in ethnic and cultural diversity. I am used to feeling included regardless of my appearance. But you dont get that in hillbilly Conroe. You need to have blue eyes and blonde hair to not be harassed in this city. I am a white male but have bad eyes so I am not welcomed in Conroe. I am avoiding Academy from now on. I will shop at running specialty stores in Houston where I feel respected and like a human being.

1 lane only open. A young lady "accidently" turned on her register open sign. And was rushed by several of the many customers that were standing in the 1 open lane. As we all walked up she left the register and was standing with at least 3 other employees all gathered around and laughing. I made the statement that we all just walked up and she walked off. And asked is she open or not. She very rudely said she didnt even turn her light on, in which several of us " replied we just watched you do it." She said she didnt do it and she was not open. Another academy person told her to go ahead and check us out. She literally clinched her fist, stomped over to us and jerked the 2 pair of pants that I was holding, on to the check out table. She scanned them told me the price where I gave her a $100.00 bill. Again she yanked that bill out of my hand, threw it in the bottom of her drawer, and slammed the divider tasty down so hard that coins flipped out on the floor. Where as I asked her if we made her mad. Her reply was. "WHY WOULD YOU SAY THAT? "...... I responded you are obviously upset, your attitude is reflecting it very bad. She said well SORRY,.... NEXT!" Decent selection of products and inventory. Prices of their merchandise ranges from above average to "are you kidding me?" The staff is so-so knowledgable about things in the store. I would say if you have a serious question about something, google it first, or scan it in the store with your smart phone, youll get a better result than asking an employee. They would much rather stand around and chit-chat with one another, anyway. As far as buying guns from this store is concerned; I wouldnt have a problem with it if the price was right, but Ive never been able to do it, because the customer service at the gun counter is just so appalling and non-existant I refuse to support it. These guys know nothing about guns, I think they make stuff up on the spot to make it seem like they know what theyre talking about, and if they cant answer your question, they just stare at you blankly. Ive been in here numerous times helping OTHER customers with gun questions, while the staff just sits there.. and I did it for free! This place is a joke. I say look around, but dont give much thought to any purchase over $100 here. Shop around and find people that will actually help you.

Worst customer service ever. I recommend this store if you want to be treated like a criminal. I went to purchase a $13.00 item for my son at the customer service counter, so I could use his employee discount. The lady ask for his employee number, he provided it, then she asked for his ID which he provided. She rang up the merchandise and I went to pay for it. Then the front manager standing behind her said, you cant pay for it, the employee has to pay for it. So, I go to hand my card to my son. Then she asked is his name on the card. I said no, what difference does it make. She says, well your obviously not his spouse so he cant use your card. So, I turn to my son and hand him $13.00 cash, and said here son, this money is yours, pay the stupid lady. If an employee discount is good for immediate family, then how can you get any more immediate than a father. This is not about the money, it was on ly 1.30 discount, its about the principal. This entire store needs remedial training on how to treat customers and employees.

Dont waste your time here. I tried to return a kayak that I found was damaged when I removed the plastic wrap and they told me it was sold as is and they wouldnt do anything about it. Went to the Woodlands Academy and not only were they more than happy exchanging it out 2 guys from the store spent over an hour going over the difference in the kayaks. Ended up going with something other than the original. Even though I live in Conroe I will head south and pick up my gear from The Woodlands store before going to the lake from here on out.

What can I say, no matter the sport Academy has something for you, hmmm is frying a turkey a sport? I guess it is in Texas, my dad even purchased a turkey fryer there a couple years back. Im not sure about sausage makers or beer coolers though because I tend to get lost in the fishing and shooting sections. If you cant find it anywhere else Academy will have what you need, and they seem to only hire the best and most enthusiastic people, thats my experience anyway

Employees were in Definite need of enthusiasm and the gentlemen assisting me in the knives section was almost irritated that I stopped hiòim to ask about brand preference between a SOG and a CRKT..... The restrooms were probably not cleaned for 3-4 days... overall one of the worst Academy Sports + Outdoors I have been to in a while. I was pretty surprised BC the Academys I normally venture to are usually on point and really nice.

It was sorry been going their for years now there CS stinks..You cant call em to see if they got something or they always say we are soso to busy>Either they are to understaffed are there management sucks so bad they cant keep good help...THIS PLACE USE TO BE THE BEST PLACE IN CONROE FOR YOU"RE SPORTING NEEDS.But now sad to say I would go to Conroe Wal- Mart before these dudes and folks that is bad....
