Skylights is a great bookstore to duck into. They have a surprisingly good selection for their limited space, and especially a wonderful--and one of the largest--selections of literary magazines and zines Ive ever seen. Plus, their staff recommendations are spot on. Ive found a wonderful book or two as a result. The aisles are pretty narrow, so be prepared to bump into some other patrons, but you never know, you might meet a cute fellow book-reader to go take out to coffee or some other meet-cute scenario. Own it. Ive never had to ask for help from the staff, so I cant speak to that. Its a bookstore; most who enter are generally familiar with how it works. The good: solid selection The bad: watch your head walking if, if ye be tall.

This is my little piece of heaven, and Im glad i found it in Austin, TX . Theres a great selection of books, both popular and obscure. I love the narrow hallway that is lined with books right at the top of the staircase. The bottom floor feels like a library, with its respected silence. People were sitting around, deeply engrossed in the books they were reading. I definitely recommend this place to all bibliophiles.

All they had in socialist categories were Fourth International and Trotskyist books and newspapers. Stalinist, Maoist, and other true Marxist-Leninist will find nothing there that fits their philosophical studies. However, they had a good selection of other books that I think most people will find interesting. And it was multiple times better than Brave New Books. Overall, not for me, but still good.

Very COOL and laid back book store and meeting place, with a small but good variety of books regarding an interesting ideology/movement of a perspective of hope of a better future. They have self make and self serve tea and coffee. One could easily spend a couple of hours conversing with other clientele and volunteer staff, who are exceptionally awesome, leaving better enlightened.

I didnt hate it, but I wasnt impressed with the selection. I expected a lot more radical, freedom-oriented books. Most of what they had was really statist and philosophically weak. I guess its just not for me. After visiting Brave New Books, I was disappointed with Monkey Wrench. The atmosphere was kinda nice, at last.

A unique bookstore that has a good selection of what I would describe as "activist literature." Picked up a couple good reads, and I plan to show more of my friends about it in the future. Also I hope to attend one of the many events they have coming up that are all great community outreach events.

Its a left wing book shop. Thats all you need to say. Its a lefty book shop. And I think its a coperative, to boot. So dont give me your libertarian "its statist" crap. Its not a libertarian bookshop. I found the staff guy there very nice and helpful. Good selection. Support your local bookseller!

For what it is, a radical anarchist gathering place its the best and only in the Austin area. Not much of a book store, more of a hangout. Next door to Forbidden Fruit sex shop and Vegan Nom food truck. Easy access from Burnet and Lamar, and various bus routes including 801 and 803.

Wow! I found my favorite radical bookstore on North Loop. I visited Brave New World first and was put off by the Alex Jones conspiracy theory paranoia and Ron Paul worship tomes. Monkeywrench stirs the cockles of this old hippies liberal heart.

I love this bookstore. They have some really heady books and the visiting authors are interesting also I really love the live performances.

Narrow selection. More of a discussion/ meeting place than bookstore. Laid back seating area and staff.
