This is an "epoch" (see what I did there?) place to meet new people and just people watch in general. It is an odd hybrid of coffee shop/pizza parlor/internet cafe. Being in the funky, quirky, completely Austintastic neighborhood of North Loop, it is open 24hrs and a fantastic place to grab a spot with a hot or cold beverage (I highly recommend the handmade lavender mint italian soda) or slice of pizza (the Moontower is fantastic) to either join the other laptop soldiers in their army of one missions of the day or to just chill out, this is a great spot! Also, check out the bathrooms, they are worth an inspection! It can get crazy crowded on any given weekend late night (especially post last call of the surrounding bars) and parking can get cutthroat when its packed. But, if you are new to the Austin area and want to get a nice sampling of the population cliques of our amazing city, pay this place a visit! Striking up a random convo with someone while waiting for your coffee concoction is easy to do here and it is also a great place to meet up with friends for a jam sesh or even a game night. In any case, there are no strangers here, just friends you havent met yet!

I give it 4 Stars for my daytime experiences there. I give it a negative star (black hole) for my one and only night-time experience there. Last Monday at about 11 PM I ordered a coffee and three pizza slices. My server: probably 5-8, dark hair & white tape holding nose piece of glasses together and age 20s. I received my coffee order and asked about it being short poured about 25 % or more and the server said "thats all that came out of the container." So hes a retard or figures I am. OK no biggie, Ill let it go and say no more. I waited the usual 15 minutes for the usually awesome Eastside Pizza to warm up. I asked a different server if pizza is ready. He said no pizza in oven. I then said to taped glasses twice: "so you took my order but didnt put the pizza in? And the genius replied twice "you didnt pick it up?" He then pulled his head out of his ___ and put it in oven. Called pizza ready 5 minutes later. I on the way to retrieve it I knew that after 5 minutes it would be cold- i.e. not long enough to cook. I was correct. Then he put it in again. The next morning I had the s#*ts big time. Mohawk Manager said "Oh sorry he just had a bad night."

Where to begin? I have been a fairly frequent patron of Epoch for about 8 years now. When I was in school, my friends and I would come and study and take advantage of the fact the shop is open 24 hours. On the weekends, my friends and I would shop the vintage shops in the area and then call it a day by stopping in at Epoch to refuel and check out what we bought at the shops. The location is excellent - Located on the edge of an uniquely Austin neighborhood, in the parking lot with a record store and vintage store. I have tried just about every drink on the menu and have a few favorites, but really any drink from Epoch is good. The food is decent, but nothing mind blowing. The pastrys, in my opinion, are not worth the money, but I am a pastry chef, so I might be a bit overly judgemental. The baristas are exactly what you expect - a mix of hippie and hipster. They know how to make good coffee drinks, as well as the overly popular sugary drinks. They are always polite and quick. I highly recommend Epoch, especially if you need a place to study.

I am very new to Austin, and I had always been told that this side of town (where Epoch resides) is the grungy "hipster" part of town, so I was hesitant to venture over there. However, I made the trip last night, and, although the area could certainly classify as something close to grungy hipster, I was fairly impressed with Epoch. I went there later in the evening and the physical location (design elements, space, available seating) was set up very well. The baristas, at first, seemed a little rude, but after chatting for a little while they chilled out. Despite being a smoker, I did really appreciate that they had two outdoor sections, one for smokers, and one for non-smokers. I thought that was a great idea, as not everyone who sits outside wants to bothered with smoke. Overall, Id say Epoch is worth a visit, and it is a great place if you need to get some late night work done or just want to meet up with your friends (since it is open 24 hours)!

Would be perfect if service was better. The guys all seem like middle aged grumpy men who only smile when they are outside hitting on the high school girls that sit on the deck chain smoking. I have narrowed the service issue down to two things: 1. They(1) are ostentatious because they work at a coffee shop; it is their world. And they think if you dont know the name for the vegan granola bar then you must be retarded because outside Epoch nothing exists. And, having a job or other thing filling you head is unfathomable. 2. They are bitter because they work at a coffee shop; it is the world.(2) .............. Footnote: 1. By "they" I mean most of them. There are a couple of ladies (including the guy dressed up as a lady) that are very friendly. But even then dont expect the service that you will get at Flight Path, which is just a block away, or Bennu, another 24 hour coffee shop on the other side of town. 2. The same as part one.

The barista are kind of a problem here--some are nice and friendly, but some ignore you and others can be down right rude. I asked for a latte extra hot and it was only luke warm when I got it so I politely asked if it was possible if they could warm it up (seriously, I tried to be so nice and I didnt really want to ask for it but with tip I had spent over $6 on the latte). This barista gave me so much attitude and basically scolded me for asking and gave me a lesson about scolded milk. It was really rude. But rude baristas are fairly common in Austin, so whatever. The actually coffee shop has a pretty good vibe. I wouldnt go here to work or study because its always (I mean, like Ive been there at all hours and its surprising) crowded so its hard to get a place near an outlet and Ive had to leave a few times because of that. The coffee is good, although I dont think its anything special.

True Austin coffee shop, located in the heart of the North Loop strip (Foreign & Domestic, Workhorse, Drink.Well). Reliable free WiFi and adequate plugs at every table; open 24 hours! You will find a lot of people here who are looking to get work done-- tons of laptops, chargers, and textbooks out on the tables mean people tend to camp out here. There is adequate indoor/outdoor room, but I wouldnt plan on bringing a large study group-- or more than three friends-- and expect to get a table immediately. Available parking in the public lot can be hit or miss, but there is adequate street parking nearby. The coffee is great, the staff is super friendly, the prices are reasonable, and the food is decent-- try one of their grab-n-go sandwiches or the empanadas. An added bonus? The graffiti-filled bathroom has some musings that will keep you entertained if you need a break.
