my best friend and i decided to get matching tattoos... our first tattoo. When we walked in the atmosphere was very clean andinviting, we were immedediatly welcomed by owner and staff. we explained what we were looking for, they first started to get the appointment book to schedule a time, however my friend had a long drive ahead so we asked if there was any way to get it done sooner. Once the owner discovered this he made every effort to squeeze us in. That was just awesome! isaac was the artist who did the tattos. He was AWESOME! very calming, i think he could tell i was crazy nervous. he answered every question we had, gave us a little background on himself as well as the history of tattoing. It was truly an amazing experienmce. He worked with me as i got into the chair and made sure i was comfortable. All items were sterile and it was very professionally organized. he didnt have to fumble around for things. he used a stencil which helped me visualize better. He was as gentle as can be. i am so excited that i got a tattoo but even more that the experience was as easy and helpful as possible. iwoudl definatly recommend Alter Ego to anyone looking for a top notch experience, fantastic artists and staff/owner. thank you so much!

I promised my daughter when she turned 7 she could get her ears pierced but Ill have to admit I was reluctant to let her do it. I was really worried about possible infections and getting a hold of someone who was inexperienced. Sara at Alter Ego Tattoo did a great job. Not only was she very careful at deciding where to position the holes, adjusting her marks so they were perfect and asking what I thought, but she also used a soft, gentle approach that put my daughter at ease. She said it didnt even hurt afterwards!!! The place was super clean. Saras work area is well lit and very neat, like a doctors office. The whole process was very hygienic. I highly recommend going here for piercings. Avoid possible infections and botched jobs done by inexperienced sales associates at mall accessories stores. Go to Alter Ego Tattoo where their business is piercings and tattoos, not just something they do on the side. Ask for Sara, shes the best!!!

My friend and I went in to get a foot tattoo of a Cherry Blossom. The girls in the shop were great and complementary of our idea. The guy, Josh, acted as if we were wasting his time and even said, foot tattoos do not heal well. Having a foot tattoo already on my right foot, that healed just fine, I was a little bit irritated by this. We brought him a picture of what we wanted, he worked with it and made it bigger because this is what HE wanted to tattoo. We asked him to re-size, he rolled his eyes. The whole process seemed like an irritation to him. My friend and I even pulled the girls working at the shop aside and asked, whats the deal with him? They said, he just has an interesting personality. Hm...one would think if this guy is going to be putting needles in ppls skin, he would want to make his clients the most comfortable possible. Afterall, we walked out and did not get tattooed there.

Alter Ego is by far one of the best shops in Knoxville!!! The shop is always clean and neat, bright and welcoming!!! The staff is always friendly and welcoming, especially Jeff!!! He is always there, easily approachable with any idea and willing & able to offer his advice to make a tattoo work better for the client!!! The rest of the staff is equally amazing as well, Ashlee, Isaac, Lonnie, Whitney, Dawn & Seth are always turning out AMAZING work!!! I have sent a number of friends and coworkers down to Alter Ego for the BEST tattoo experience!!! I would, without a doubt, travel back from NYC to continue getting work from these talented artists!!! Further more, Ashlee has the lightest touch I have ever experienced under a tattoo gun and I have a lot of ink!!! Take my advice and form your own opinion and go see the AWESOME gang at Alter Ego!!!

100% satisfied with my tattoo and my experience. First of all, the shop is the cleanest Ive ever been in. Its like a surgical suite in there. (So clean, and so well lit! Half the tattoo parlors you walk in and cant imagine how the artists can even see well enough to work!) Isaac is not just a great artist, but he was wonderful to work with. He listened intently to me, and explained things simply but without condescension. I brought in a mood board to describe what I wanted, and he took all that inspiration and turned it into a beautiful, intricate design that was exactly what I wanted. He was very careful and competent during the actual tattooing, and the result was amazing. My tattoo is honestly so much more than I had even dreamed was possible. He is creative and dedicated and a consummate professional. I would recommend Alter Ego to anyone.

I would not recommend this place to anyone. My friend and I scheduled an appointment to get tattoos and we were very excited. The girls that worked there were friendly however not the experienced and gave us false information in regards to the healing process of a tattoo. Josh was very rude. He acted as though the idea of the tattoo that we wanted was just horrible. We tried our hardest to be chipper and up beat with him however he acted as though he did not want to do these tattoos. Has Josh forgotten this is his job and you need to have 100% customer service when you work face to face with people. Rolling his eyes, no side conversation, making noises as if we were wasting his time...last time I checked it was people like myself that provides him a paycheck!!!! Happily we left without our tattoos...who would get tatts from a jerk??

My wife and I stopped by the shop on Saturday to discuss a half sleeve for myself. We were so impressed by the artists knowledge and the conditions of the shop. All of the staff present on Saturday were amazing. Friendly, knowledgeable and more than willing to help. My wife ended up getting her hood pierced while we were there. The young lady who did the piercing was great, and helped to keep my wife at ease while they did the pierce. On Sunday we went back to the shop and met with Isaac about doing a couple new tattoos for us. He was awesome. I have to say his fine line work is just amazing. Both tattoos we got that day look great! Seriously check him out, his work is impressive. We will be seeing the folks at Alter Ego again soon Im sure!

I got my first tattoo at Alter Ego (recommended by a friend) and have never gotten a tattoo. I went in nervous and wasnt sure what to do. They were super friendly when I timidly said, "Ive never done this before..." and although I didnt have an appointment (I didnt realize you had to have one...like I said, my first one) they fit me in. The guy that did my tattoo was super nice and all the other staff was super nice and really made me chill. I like the atmosphere in the shop. It isnt intimidating and IT IS VERY CLEAN. I watched as the artist pulled all the instruments from clean bags. Overall, its a great shop and I really liked the experience there. They talked to me and really understood my tattoo. THANKS ALTER EGO!
