This is the place was MOST looking forward to my first weekend in Providence. As a guy from the West Coast, I was spoiled with all sorts of amazing donut shops, but was bummed to see there were none in Providence when I first visited. I did try Allies, but Ill get to that. These donuts are absolutely incredible. Id been following them on Instagram for a while and couldnt wait to get my hands on them! I love that they switch things up and post a menu weekly so you know what youre getting yourself into - no other place I know does that. They currently limit you to four, but considering what goes into these donuts (theyre handmade, people!) and their size, thats entirely fine by me. I hear this "ban" might get lifted once they move to their new spot, so thankfully Providence is full of beautiful places for a run. They use a brioche dough, which from my limited understanding is difficult to work with, and temperamental. Kudos to you ladies for doing something different than everyone else. I personally loved the yeasted brioche dough (tried strawberry lime, daves coffee milk, and charred lemon + basil). This is where Allies comes in - you cannot compare the two places, as they are completely different ballparks. Allies is a traditional donut with frosting and sprinkles, so yes, its cheaper to make and sells for less. PVDonuts makes everything by hand, and has some very unique flavors which justify the price tag - I would pay more if I needed to. I was only able to try one old fashioned (pb+fluff), but loved it. All in all, Ill be here at least once a week - especially when they move into their new spot. I think most Rhode Islanders are used to a single kind of donut that theyve had their entire lives, and I think its great that this place took a huge risk to enter into the market with something different. I wish them the best!

Ok, so I was finally able to set aside some time to wait in line (about 30-people deep) and buy some donuts here. As a bit of a connoisseur of donuts, I was looking forward to sampling these ones. All Ive heard is theyre the best locally with an interesting variety of flavors and styles. So, how it is? Pretty good! Theres a very eclectic selection of wares here, and the ones I bought are interesting: Cereal Milk, Coffee Milk, two others I forgot the name of, and an oat Monkey Bread. Overall, not too bad. What I didnt like was that they were a little stale. Not 100% sure why, since I bought them at ~9:30 am, but the tops of them seemed like they were sitting out for a long time. Would I go again? Yeah, but if the line is crazy long (on Saturday mornings, the line literally goes down the block; insane!!) Ill pass. Its not worth the standing around and waiting for something unless its a special occasion or there are friends/family that are DYING to try them in my opinion. YMMV, however :)

I have attempted to experience the hype everyone is talking about. Unfortunately I have made 3 attempts with a 2 hour wait. First attempt I waited at 10am. By the time I got to the door it was 12:30pm and of course out of donuts. The second attempt same experience. Finally this weekend we made it inside by 1pm. After standing around a slowly paced line since 9:45 am. The disappointing factor was that my children and I did not have a selection as they were down to one batch of donuts. There must be a way to avoid such negative experience. Maybe have someone come out to notify the long line of what to expect. Or possibly create a larger batch to meet demand. After my experience, there is so much bigger things to do than wait for a disappointment.

After having a disappointing first time here at their old location I knew I had to give them a do-over since part of my problem was not having the donuts fresh. I opted for the old fashioned style donut today (puppy chow) which was a a chocolate old fashioned with glaze, peanut butter drizzle and muddy buddy topping. This was a dense, rich donut that went perfectly with my coffee today. I think I prefer this style vs. Their brioche donuts. The line lasted about 15 minutes, their system still needs work but its improved greatly since my first visit. Also while waiting in line a few donuts sold out, so the earlier you go the better!!

We didnt have the opportunity to try donuts on site. We just ordered a half dozen and then took them with us. We didnt actually try the donuts until hours later, so perhaps this is a case of not having eaten them when theyre fresh out of the oven. Anyway, they certainly look the part and impress based on their size and topping coverage. But the cake donuts come off a bit dry and too dense and the brioche-based donuts just sorta taste like a brioche bun with fancy toppings.

The donuts are good, but not great. They are very big compared to other donuts, but also cost twice as much so really about the same value as anywhere else. They really only make two or three types of donut and just put different frosting on them. So its not the most creative Ive seen either.. The donuts arent very sweet either, which I suppose some would prefer. All in all Id say its good, but not worth driving across town and standing in line for.

The donuts were giant! I got a Dunkaroos, Daves coffee milk, and a Maple bacon. All really delicious, but could only do one donut a day with the size of each. They have a variety of good options, but they run out fast. If you are willing to wait for a few hours for a donut its worth it. But that is a problem for some. Also, it is expensive for just a few donuts. Hopefully the prices go down bc they must make a huge profit with the giant lines every day.

I wish I could give this place a great review, but I just cant get near it. Youd have to camp out the night before if you want to be able to get in in a reasonable amount of time to get anything. If you go by this place, no matter when, if they are open the line is down the street. Im sure theyre really good donuts, but maybe they should invest in some more staff to keep things moving a bit so people dont have to wait an hour in line..

Donuts are obviously awesome. If you can get some. They typically sell out with two hours of opening, with a line out the door. Usually only 4 donuts to choose from each day, with new offerings each day. Theyve got a new place theyll be moving into soon, so hopefully they can make more donuts to keep up with demand. Theyve also got coffee available, and other dessert items from the other business that shares their current space.

Ive been to PVDonuts several times already. Whether just for some Nitro Coffee (hard to get it during the winter!) or some good donut fun, and im always surprised. Surprised at how innovative they are being with just a simple donut and how delicious they are! Staff is super friendly as well, and I was in and out in about 5 minutes. If you can wait, go later in the day, not as many options, but youll get instant gratification! A+!
