I went into Top Gear looking to get a carbon road bike. I had an idea of what I wanted, so I stopped by. I first talked to Garvin. He was great. He did not pressure me into buying anything, was full of knowledge and was very cool. I told him I would be back in a few days and probably would be buying a bike from them. Two days later, I went back and talked to TJ. TJ was an expert in every sense of the word. He explained to me the different pros and cons of each bike, and was very friendly. We talked for a while, and I decided I wanted the bike. He asked if I could get my shoes and shorts so he could fit me properly to the bike. Of course this was no problem. He could tell I was excited about the bike we had picked out, but gave me a fair warning. He said that there is a chance that the bike may not fit me properly and he would not sell me a bike that wouldnt work for me. Many people would have just sold me the bike, but I could tell TJ had my best interest in mind. After I got back with my gear, he spent a good portion of time fitting me properly. I went for a test ride and was sold on it. When I came back, and we went over shoes and pedals. He never lost his patience, was very accommodating, and had no problem with all the questions I threw his way. I bought a new bicycle and I couldnt be happier with it. Buying a new high end bike can be intimidating, but TJ and Garvin made the whole experience a very pleasant one. A+ all around. The service I received at Top Gear was incredible... Matt helped me diagnose my bikes issues and sold me the products I needed to lubricate my chain. But here is the best part. I asked to purchase an inner tube, but mentioned that I didnt know how to change one. With that, Matt offered to show me and spent at least 30 minutes guiding me through the finer points of unseeding the tire, replacing the tube, reseeding the tire and mounting the finished product back on my bike frame. Wow! Who gets service like that nowadays? Thanks, Matt, for your instruction and your confidence in my abilities. You made my day; as a matter of fact, you made my week! Claudia W

These guys are really knowledgeable about all things biking from road to mountain to triathlon. They have full bikes, frames, shoes, wheels, miscellaneous parts, and a sweet fit studio and an epic computrainer spin studio. I have bought a bike here and had a great experience. I get any servicing I cant do myself done at Top Gear and have found them to be fast, thorough, and well priced. I would recommend Top Gear to anyone and make a point to go to them even though there are other shops much closer to my house.

Ive been to every bike shop in the Pittsburgh area 10 times over. There are awesome bike shops and there are not so awesome bike shops. Top Gear Bicycle Shop is amongst the very best in the Tri-State area. The guys and gals in the shop have always greeted me with a smile and have patiently answered all of my questions, no matter how "amateur" they might be. The staff is super knowledgeable, extremely friendly, and they carry the best the bike industry has to offer. What more could you ask for?

I prefer to work on my bikes myself, so I try to support local shops by buying my parts from them. Ive gone in three times for small parts, and all three times I was quickly dismissed with either "we dont do that here" or addressing someone with a repair or larger purchase. One time I walked around the sales floor for 5 minutes and never saw a staff member before leaving. I understand Im not your targeted clientele (doctors and dentists that will buy a new bike every year), but come on.

The employees at Top Gear have extensive knowledge of the products they sell and can provide honest recommendations because they all ride the brands they sell on the road, trails, and in triathlons. Their service is top notch too. They had me out and riding the same day after my rear derailleur shifted into my rear spokes. They put on a new rear derailleur and set me up on a loner wheel while they replaced the spokes that were bent.

This is the best place to go for bike shopping and maintenance in Pittsburgh. I had back problems on my bike for a few years and it was due to fit limitations on my current bike. They put me on their fit bike and provided suggestions on the bikes that would work better than my current bike. A few years later and Ive never been more comfortable on the bike.
