i am a customer there and usually very glad to take time to visit...read and eventually buy a book. its cozy and local and a neat store to visit.i like going there better then to boarders cause i love to support local businesses. i went in today and was very displeased. usually i find a book to 2 to read a chapter or 2 of each and decided if i want to by it and then look for something else or leave. sometime i buy and sometimes i come back to buy if i cant that day. today i had a little time and a little money and i was looking for a book with advice...just to read a chapter or 2 to take a peek and be comforted (i had been dealing with some issues this week and decided it would be worth taking a look at for comfort ) and to see if it was worth a future buy... and then go on to find something i could buy that day like my usual art book or poetry. i took about 20 minutes looking for a book...found 2 then went to sit in their chair to read a chapter out of each one...i am a slow reader mind you. 20 mins later the woman (who cant see me in the chair from where her frint desk is and really had no idea how long i was sitting) came up to me in a very rude manner and said "times up! you have been here for almost an hour! this isnt a library...this is a bookstore!" she was talking down to me like i was a child. i decided i would not finish my browsing for something to buy after such rudeness. so i left sadly without a goodbye. the store is always slow and always packed with books so i dont understand why they would be so pushy. i would think they would be pleased even to have someone come in and hope they buy a book which i was planning on doing...i know they probably have teenagers hanging around or people who read and leave...but i BUY BOOKS! im not in high school or even a college student. im not sitting there doing research or stealing books!!! im a customer!!!and sometimes yes i read and leave but thats cause im short on funds and want to get a feel for my next purchese...so i can BUY something the next time!!! i hope in the future they will change how they do business cause the tons of wonderful books that are there will never move with rudeness like that!

I dont normally write reviews, especially negative ones, but my experience here was so bad that I had to speak on it. If I could give this store a 0 star, I would! The moment my fiancé and I walked in the store, the owner was sitting at the crowded front desk. She had an angry expression on her face, wouldnt even look at us as she asked if we needed any help (with an annoyed tone). My fiancé politely asked if they buy back books. Again with an annoyed tone in her voice replies "uh yeah, what kind of books do you have?" Him: "mostly fictional books" Her: "Um. Ok. Do you even have them with you?" Him: "Yes I do!" Her: "Um. Then go get them!" .....its almost laughable that I read a review saying how great their customer service was. My fiancé told me (even before walking into the store) that the last time he was in there (4 years ago) that the owner of the store was very rude to him, but we wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt, and stop in again. No three strikes youre out. We wont be returning.

The lady who owns this store is one of the least friendly people Ive ever met. I had just spent over $600 at a used book store in Niantic CT the day before. I went in ready to spend. My wife told her how much she liked her store but no reply. She then asked if she was the owner and got a grunt of a yes. When my wife mentioned how eclectic the store is she got a "Its organized" out of the lady. She really should just stay home and read books as she has no idea how to run a business or how to deal with people. Books are very expensive for used books and lady - Its NOT organized. What a mess. Books double stacked and piled up high on the floor so you cant hardly get in close to the shelves. Selection and variety was actually excellent but I would never give such a pompous proprietor a penny of my money. We left and went down the road and spent another $200 at a used bookstore the next day.

This bookstore has a huge selection of quality books-- used as well as new. If you are *not* a fan of used bookstores that have stacks upon stacks of dusty old romance novels and bargain diet books, you will not be dissappointed.... however, I would advise calling them to make sure theyre open. Also, if you are planning to sell books, call and make an appointment first. I personally love their enormous history section! As far as sitting and reading, Ive never seen them give any problems with people over browsing, although perhaps in light of whats happened to Borders in the past few months, I would forgive them for discouraging "sitting and reading" as if its a library.

I love this place. One of about 6 superior bookstores still available on the planet. The owners are not simply BOOKSELLERS but BOOKLOVERS. They know an unprecedented amount of information about books, authors, editions, publishing houses, classics, fiction, poetry, literature, nonfiction, genres, and trends. If you are looking for a specific book or edition or just want to browse, be sure to go to CARROLL & CARROLL. This team knows books and the written word.

This is my most favorite bookstore. Every time I am on the Main street, I stop by and leave with $80 - $100 worth of new books. They have such "jewels" that no one else has! I usually scan through the book and then try to verify the reviews on Amazon before buying it. Guess what - Amazon , the largest book store on planet Earth, does not even have the books this store has! I am very happy with my purchases. I also love to support a local store. Thumbs up!

Bookstore with a huge selection of books, I went there a year or so ago and the books were memorable, but what sticks out to me was the lengthy conversation I had with the owner, who may have seemed smug, but the huge range of knowledge and depth of conversation was incredibly impressive and I could tell he could talk for hours and hours, although I did not buy any books that day, I definitely came out learning a lot of things I didnt know before!

An awesome experience for avid readers. If you would like to know about a new subject before buying, the Carrolls are a veritable ocean of information on a litany of topics. Browse books, reasonably priced and excellent customer service. I purchase books there at least once a quarter for my entire family.

While the bookkeeping and business practices may seem a little archaic, the selection on books in this store is phenomenal to say the least! By casually browsing through the store, I came across a plethora of titles that intrigued me and left me surprised. I recommend you give this store a chance.
