I cant say most people would like this place, but to me it is a quintessential representation of old school Philly Chinatown. The dark back alley feel where English is delegated to a secondary language and customer service is very much take it or leave it. Organized much like any other Asian market. Aisles for home goods, teas, snacks, noodles, canned/preserved goods, sauces/condiments, fresh produce, fresh seafood, and frozen products. They accept cash or plastic. Addendum: In the same underground space, you will find a wonderful hole-in-the-wall called Tasty Place that serves a decent beef & bitter melon. If you dont know what that dish entails, consider yourself warned. And last time i checked, cash only.

Sure, most of these kinds of small Asian supermarkets have a fishy smell, but this one had the scent of a melting octopus popsicle. Add to that the fact that it seemed to be located in someones basement, and there was hardly any room to walk around, combined with the relatively small selection to choose from, and you have a very underwhelming place to shop.

Its a little bit intimidating to walk into since the entire thing is underground but if youre looking for fairly obscure things with good prices, this is the place to shop. Especially if those things include jarred meats and fish, or just simple chinese dining staples, this is a great place. The rice noodle aisle alone makes it worth the trip.

Behind the registers is a decent sized dining area that serves up the some of the best food in chinatown. Im not just talking about fried rice and noodles, Im talking about the stuff Ah Paw used to make at home. As for the supermarket, Ive seen better and worse elsewhere. Go with packaged products if youre worried.

There are live animals stored in rubbermaid containers, perhaps this is ok culturally, but I found it a bit gross. The selection of foods is very good, some of it a bit over priced. The isles are small and not well lit. It had a bit of a fishy smell, but that was due to all of the raw fish available.

The refrigerated case (north side of the store) was just barely below room temperature on my visit. I should have thought better of it, but I bought a pound of fresh noodles anyway. When I went to prepare them later that day, they were moldy.

Definitely not your average supermarket. From the array of seafood at the open seafood bar (fish, frogs, turtles, crabs...) to the oddball Asian candy that stock the aisles, its a unique take on an everyday activity like grocery shopping.

It might a bit difficult to find because its in the basement, but its nice. The meat is fresh, and lots of choices available. Other dried food, condiments, snacks are also impressive. You can probably find everything here.

Great prices on grocery and fresh produce. Kitchen equipment overpriced. Atmosphere: its a smelly and dreary place located in a basement and they keep live animals captive in tanks... thats mean

Good alternative to the other popular supermarket in Chinatown. For some reason, it is not as popular as other one though both offer similar products, if not even more here.

Big underground Asian market. You will be able to find most Asian staples plus some! Lots of teas, sauces, refrigerated goods, frozen goods, and much more.

My go-to place for Asian cooking ingredients. They have some Chinese vegetables, a good assortment of sauces, and all the ingredients you need for hotpot.

Good selection, well stocked (more so than the market around the corner). Live fish. Prices comparable to other market, but ambiance is lacking
