Ive been going to Pets Plus for years. Ive had many dogs, none of which were purchased from them, but Ive been a constant customer due to the friendly employees and variety of foods and treats for my dogs. Ive heard horror stories before about their animals not being cared for properly. (i.e, heart worms, kennel cough, etc..) And Ive never noticed anything out of the ordinary from the dogs that they house there looking for homes UNTIL TODAY! I always look at the pups, no matter what, even though I wouldnt buy one from here and already have two labs, but I was drawn to this adorable Cocker Spaniel male dog. Maybe just 6 weeks old. He was CLEARLY sick, I walked up to the window and he came right over, looked at me, and sat up against the window, he was very wobbly and immediately started vomiting. I was approached by a young man who asked if I needed any help and I pointed out the fact that the dog was puking and didnt look good. He told me that hes been sick for about a week now, and told me he would go around back to tell the girl who takes care of them. He came out within seconds and didnt approach me again. I walked back over to the dog who was constipated at this point, trying to do his business but nothing was coming out besides brown water liquid!! I felt absolutely horrible for the poor guy. He was and is clearly sick. I then went to the front to check out. I said something to the lady up at the register as well. She said that she would tell the girl as well, but I told her that the young man who approached me earlier had already done so. Then she tells me that sometimes when the dogs arrive they get car sick and it takes awhile to shake it off. I said, "well the young man told me that the dog has been here for over a week and hes been sick for the past week." She then told me that, "he doesnt know anything!" --- I left. When a dog is sick, has been sick, or is just getting sick, would there be ANY reason at all why this dog should be in a window for customers to look at? Clearly having a hard time going to the bathroom, constantly regurgitating, and vomiting.... NO! The poor guy needs to be taken care of. Quarantined in a warm place with a blanket maybe. Ive never seen anything like that in my life and I do not ever want to. Ive been a loyal customer to them for years and am finally considering that what people have said about them may be true!... I doubt Ill be there again after today. I know that dogs get sick, and I know its inevitable just like children. But I was shocked today and felt that I needed to share after reading the other reviews.

I come into this store often to visit the animals. I am an avid animal lover and activist. I will never ever step foot into this store again unless its stepping in to congratulate authorities on shutting this god awful place down. I will say, there are a few very polite employees that work here, but ownership, knowledge, and animal welfare is absolutely disgusting. Every time I step foot into this store I leave wanting to leave with every animal in my hand. Just yesterday I was there and I was playing with the rabbits, I have two of my own. I noticed one that looked just like mine, and was commenting on how cute she was. Until I noticed one of her eyes was goopy and completely shut. A very very big sign of sickness in rabbits. Her fur was covered in bedding and food, their water bottles were empty. I tried to pick up the bunny, but she was very obviously in pain as she squirmed away from me and would not let me touch her eye to clean it for her. There are hundreds of sick and dying fish in every single part of this store. Fish cramped into tanks much too small for the amount of fish inside of them. Ive never seen dogs NOT covered in their own feces, more than half the time their cages are filthy, half of them NEVER have water, and I know for a fact that the area in the back in which they live is never air conditioned. Poor beautiful Bichon Frises with matted fur, Maltese covered in their own poop, and down right beautiful yellow labs in tiny cages never getting play time to stretch their limbs or have any sense of freedom. Every person who has every told me they "rescued" an animal from this god awful establishment has told me they were so unbelievably sick and they paid so much money getting them treatments from the get go. If I could rate this place no stars- you bet I would. It will be a great day when this store gets closed down for the disgusting treatment of innocent animals.

My girlfriend went to this store in search of a Black and White Argentine Tegu as a gift for me. They told her they would order one for her, so she patiently waited. when my girlfriend went to pick up my new pet, she received verbal conformation from several of the "experts" that it indeed was a Black and White Argentine, and paid the $160.00 and brought it home. Once i inspected it personally, i noticed that it didnt have the aesthetic traits an Argentine would have, but instead looked like a Black and White Columbian Tegu (only $30.00). I took the Tegu back to PetsPlus for a second opinion, and the guy from the reptile department confirmed that it was an Argentine; even though it clearly was not. i insisted my girlfriend take me to the person who physically sold her the lizard, as soon as i asked him the variety of Tegu he sold her, he just said "its a Black and White Tegu." so i took mine out of its container and said "was it a Columbian, like this one?" and he proceeded to tell me it was just a Black and white Tegu. after realizing that hed been caught in a lie, we were quick to get our money back, but still no apology for lying to me or my girlfriend and making me look unintelligent in front of my son. Which, in my eyes, is more offensive than the idea of being ripped off.

Multiple animals had serious infections and seemed to be on the brink of death. More than one aquatic animal had an eye infection so bad they couldnt even open their eye. The animals are clearly neglected by a staff that has absolutely zero idea how to care for an animal, let alone multiple. The majority of the rats had close to severe respiratory infections and showed a complete lack of human interaction and care. The aquatic equipment showed a clear lack of cleanliness. Its really no wonder why so many of the fish appeared so sickly. Lastly, but certainly most heartbreaking, is the tortoise at the back of the store that had no food or even a waterbowl at the very least. The tortoise had a look of despair and loneliness, scratching at the walls trying to get out and clearly needs to be taken to a rescue. The sad state of the animals is heart breaking and legitimately brought my fiance to tears on more than one occasion. This place is a sad excuse for a pet store and clearly either needs a complete overhaul and all the staff fired or at the most extreme closed down for good so those poor aninals can be placed elsewhere. If i could give the store a negative amount of stars i would in a heartbeat.
