Today I woke up to my cat’s head stuck in the plastic grommet of my desk that was meant for cables but was being used by her as a necklace. There was room enough for a finger between her neck and the grommet so I tried to slide it off, but her head had swollen and it wasn’t going to get past her jaw. I tried to cut it off her with wire cutters to no avail. I called my boyfriend asking if we had anything heavier duty, and when he said no, I called my dad. My dad said to take the cat to ACE Hardware, he called ahead and agreed that I would buy whatever tool they used to cut it off her neck. I drove straight there, but when I got there, it was bigger than they thought and they decided to forego the original plan, and use tin snips. I restrained my cat while Robin covered her eyes and talked to her, and Corrina cut the cuff off her and they pulled it apart off her neck. She was so happy, and enthusiastically accepted attention from the two women who just freed her. When I asked how much I owed them, they said that because the tool they used was one they use in store, that they weren’t even going to charge me. So, to Corrina and Robin of ACE Hardware on Wallace in West Salem, thank you so much. You have no idea the absolute panic I was in when I saw that she had swelled and that I was powerless to help her. You are both angels, and ACE Hardware is so lucky to have you.

The store is receiving three stars because I always feel like I am being followed or watched like I am a thief. I went in there the other day and needed to buy a stud finder and it was locked on the Shelf. I had to go ask to have someone come unlock it so I can look at multiple versions, how uncomfortable is that you have to have a employee stand next to you while you decide what you want to buy and then I was afraid to walk around the store with it in my hand since I still have shopping to do, it made for a very uncomfortable shopping experience. I do like the store of course I am a man it is like a kid in a candy shop. It seems like the customer service is good but I get that overwhelming feel. I will not return even though it is close to my house, I will proceed to Lowes. Maybe once management can figure out how to stop this, I would return.

Ive read some of these reviews and I swear it must be another store. I live in West Salem, so this is the most convenient solution for hardware, but after a dozen or so trips here is what I have found: - Staff is surly and acts like you are bothering them with questions roughly 2/3 of the time - Staff cant be found to help roughly 2/3 the time - No one picks up the phone when calling about 1/2 the time - Staff is knowledgeable about 1/2 the time - Selection is poor (but to be expected from a smaller store) - Prices are high (also expected) Conclusion: I only go here when I must. If I have time, I go to Home Depot up on Salem Parkway where I get much better service

I used to go to Home Depot all the time, even though Ace is closer to my house. Just habit. One day I was in a hurry and stopped at Ace. It is shocking how much better the staff are at Ace. They are so nice, knowledgeable, and actually interested in your home projects. They have never just pointed me to an isle. They always walk back there and make sure I find what I need, and not only that, but offer suggestions and tips about how to complete my project and/or make it better. Sometimes theres things that you have to go to a big box place for. But Ace is my first stop/call for any project. Its like having a friend joining to help in the project.

Actually, I like this store. Someone says theres nothing, but for me theres almost everything I need. Its a small store, but I have never encountered a situation that I cannot find what I need. Today, I found a bicycle tube which was cheaper than ones in Target and Sears. When I was changing my family rooms carpet to laminate floor, I could always find tools or nails, etc I forgot to buy in advance. If you live in West Salem and are thinking to go to Home Depot or Lowes, just stop by there first. You may be able to find what you want without wasting gas.

This hardware store is one of the worst I have ever lived near. Since this is the ONLY hardware store in West Salem, one would think the selection would be broad and general, but this is not the case. They have next to nothing. It consists of mostly lawn and garden supplies. Even the selection of nuts and bolts is terrible; very limited metric sizes. This store clearly caters to the fact that most people in this neighborhood are well-off enough to just hire someone to fix their things, and it is a terrible inconvenience.

99% of the time these guys have all the little odds and ends I need. I mostly use ACE for their great selection of nuts, bolts and other obscure hardware, that would otherwise be impossible to find locally. This particular location has a very friendly staff, a clean and well maintained store, and a great location! I highly recommend this ACE Hardware!

I always get really good service at the West Salem Ace Hardware store. Friendly and knowledgeable. Always good product. If you happen to get a defective item, no problem with return or exchange. They seem to have competitive prices for their goods. I live in East Salem and like them well enough to go across the bridge.

Sometimes I tuxedo a pair of sideways slanted viewable corngrape cattle ramps for waterloo gutterstumps if that quells a doo-wop full of salamander stucco halls. Few slap happy recruit fruit fly yarns of old flagrant foul sea hag fairy dust bins for sale. Clap loud nasal baritone falafel flower pens. Clap loud.

Very helpful people. The staff is always friendly easy to find. They are also knowledgeable about the products in the store. If you are looking for a specialty item and they dont have they will either give helpful directions or order it for you. Great place, great people. Jake Cogger
