I have been a customer at Parkrose True Value Hardware for many years. Its true that they have a large selection and great inventory (at least for my needs.) My last trips have been disappointing, however. I went for some deck stain and advice. The first time, (Aug. 2009) I could not find anyone to help me in the paint section. I finally settled on a spray can of KILZ for a different project altogether and thought Id complete that and return for my original need. When I returned (the next day) I was advised by the paint clerk to buy primer and then paint over my new deck steps, and paint the deck to match. I bought the primer and intended to return for the paint, as I had intended to stain the deck and wanted to give paint color some thought. Luckily before I primed anything a painter came to bid the rest of the house for me. He told me I should NOT prime the steps, nor paint them, as they would peel and be U-G-L-Y soon. So back I went to return the primer. I felt I should be able to get a refund since the clerk had sold me the wrong product. Advice and customer service is why we go to True Value rather than the bigger guys, isnt it? Because I didnt have my receipt, I would be given store credit. (Didnt make me happy, but I can understand the policy.) What I DONT understand is a store manager who in a face-to-face with a customer offers no smile, no "Im sorry", no consideration: He just looked at me blankly and said "Thats policy. Store credit." Then without another word he walked away. I will go back to spend my $17 credit, but then Im done with Parkrose. Customer service is everything and he showed less than none. Ms. U

My wife and I spent fifteen minutes asking four different employees to helps us with staples in aisle 16. Each person called for assistance over the intercom and until the last, no one showed up to help us. There were only two other customers in the store, so the store was most certainly not busy. The older gentleman that finally arrived had no knowledge of whether the store carried the size staples I wanted, even though they were right in front of him. He called over another older employee, as well as a young guy who seemed to be a manager of some sort. This young person angrily raised his voice, held a pack of staples right in my face and pointed, saying that the width is labeled right there on the front of the box. I had to teach him that the standard & metric measurements on the box were both the staple length and neither were the width. He started grumpling as he searched for something else he could accuse me of being wrong about. The young (manager?) man next told me that I was wrong about what staples my staple gun uses, even though he had no idea what gun it was, and sent me to another section with one of the older men. After teaching the older employee that these different staples were incorrect & that I need the kind that I was originally asking for help with, we walked back to aisle 16 again. The other employees gone, the one older gentleman proceeded to fumble around with the boxes of staples for five more minutes before I realized that I wasnt going to get any help at this store. I dont think Ive ever had a hardware store make me feel so unwelcome.

I have been shopping at Parkrose Hardware for twelve years. When I shop there I try my best to not need to ask for assistance because it seems as though all the employees complete very comprehensive weekly trainings on how to be condescending as well as unfamiliar with their products. My continued displeasure was tolerated because I like to support local shops (I know it is part of a chain but it is also not a big box). Unfortunately, I just cannot take it any longer. My final straw was when I asked if they had any spiral springs because all I could find were coil springs. The employee looked at me like I was an idiot and said "You mean a torsion spring and no we dont. Why do you need a torsion spring?" (he did not air quote torsion but he did emphasis the word). Even though it was none of his business I felt compelled to explain because he presented himself as though he thought I must be an idiot. Reality is that they do carry torsion springs, which I had already seen on the shelf, but they only carry coil torsion springs. I could not find the spiral torsion spring which is what I was asking for. I have had past similar experiences with deck stain, thumb screws, and nearly every experience at the cash register where I was always made to feel like I was a burden to the cashiers. From this point forward I will have to go to Gateway Hardware and Beaumont Hardware even though their stock is smaller.

The past few months have made me decide that this store is NOT the one I want to go to. I have had several experiences lately that have turned me off. Heres my issues: 1. Needed a manual hand drill (Small job, no need for a expensive one) and I found they had it, went in the store, mentioned what I was looking for, employee said "Oh we don;t carry that" I said "Ill see myself" had the guy follow me saying "I said we dont have it!" and I finally found it. He then said "Oh Im not familiar with this aisle" I replied "I never would have guessed" 2. Been buying propane and they will have it split between the numbers and charge you the higher price. 3. Just had a special order of fuel filters and they never called me and only ordered 1 when I paid for 4 (I paid in advance) and they didnt even search for the price nor model....No thanks, I dont need to be the trainer on how to treat a customer right. Im looking for another store.

Came in on a Sunday and was helped by Dennis who went over and beyond for me. I have a Honda that someone stole The front license plate off of . So I needed to get new Nuts to screw in my new license plate. But the nuts that we need it were a specialty item from Honda . But fortunately Dennis went In the back and grabbed a tapping tool and right there on the spot rethreaded the two holes for me so that I could fit two new 6 mm nuts in them and also help me fix one of the screw holes that was sagging in it! If this was any other store I would just been told tough luck and that would be that. In my 35 years of people giving customer service Dennis went above and beyond . Dennis and the store deserve 10 stars !!!!

I have done thousands of dollars worth of business with Parkrose Hardware over the years and I am sad to say that after they have posted an anti freedom, anti american, discriminatory sign barring law abiding citizens from legally carrying a weapon in their store I will not spend another penny with Parkrose Hardware. I will encourage everybody I know to stay away and spend their hard earned money with a business that supports the constituition of the United States! Screw you Parkrose, you have lost a customer for life and will lose alot more due to your pathetic attempt at political correctness!!!
