Oregon Mountain Community did a great job highlighting the benefits of the La Sportiva Glacier WLF. They were reluctant to mention the companys warranty policy. As a firefighter, I spend the majority of the year outdoors and did find these boots very comfortable, although it is much more important to know the boots can stand the wear and tear. The owner or manager of the store (I am not sure) was talking about how great of a boot it is and how popular its been getting. I was reassured by the salesman at OMC that this boot did back up its reputation. I wore the boots for a little under a month and they were excellent when they served their purpose. The month that I used the boots I was consistently hiking, thinning and went on three different fires. I noticed the glue was starting to melt on the toe of the boots after just a couple of hours on a small fire. The glue continued to wear off after the second fire moving further toward the sole. On the third fire, a fairly hot fire, the boots had completely delaminated all the way to the sole. I was then forced to tape my boots repeatedly until the fire was out (2 days I believe). The duties I engaged in on these fires are basic firefighter suppression procedures, which entails digging, saw work, and then a long meandering process of cleaning the fire up. During initial suppression I was the sawyer on one flank, experiencing high levels of heat. After the fire was lined, I then went through the inside of the fire cutting the branches of the trees so heat would not catch a tree on fire, this is when the boots started to really fail. I feel as though I went through a series of standard operations that the boot is suppose to support but these boots ended up being more of a burden than anything else. For $250, I expect a boot that can last longer than three fires (let alone a month!) and I expect the retailer I buy the boot from to be upfront about what it can and cannot do and the warranty regarding the product especially if the product is a specialty item. I will give OMC two stars because they were able to send my boot to La Sportiva and they were also able to call me when the boots made it back to the store (unfixed). Other than that, I feel taken advantage of by this store. They sold me the boots for $250, but did not tell me that these boots do not have a reliable warranty.

They dont stand behind what they sell. Once you pay for something, you are on your own. I bought a $320 pair of heavy duty Lowa boots there. On the first day-hike the leather failed and I had deep gouges and peeling rand. When I went back to OMC they suggested that I buy a tube of urethane and glue them back together or that I go sell them used to Next Adventure. After some pressing, they agreed that they could send them back to Lowa under the warranty but that they werent sure that it would be covered and that Id be without boots for at least 4 weeks. My friends have all pointed out that if Id bought the boots at REI they would have taken them back no questions asked. Ive learned two very expensive lessons, 1) Go somewhere that stands behind what they sell. 2) The leather on a La Sportiva Pamir is vastly superior to whatever Lowa is using.

Buyer Beware! Bought a pair of Lowa hunting boots from OMC. Very comfortable out of the box. However after trying them on a hunting trip the right boot was obviously defective and virtually ruined our trip. The defect was confirmed by another hunting partner who had the same boot in the same size. We traded boots, His were fine on me but mine showed the same defect for him. OMC declined to take care of the problem even though they were returned within their warranty period. I am now out the price of these expensive boots.

Spent a week looking for a new climbing helmet and after trips to several stores for the same ugly colored 3 types called OMC and they had the one I found online in stock in a basic sane color. When I showed up as the gal rang it up she was checking if it was on sale I mentioned I saw it on sale online and presto she matched it. I hadnt bought anything there for quite a while but I will certainly be back again soon.

Visited store to check out a Marmot tent, salesperson was unwilling to set it up so I could view it (told me we dont do that). Both REI and Next Adventure were more than willing to perform this simple request. I had been given the task of purchasing 5 tents for a group I am associated with. Due to this experience, they have not only lost a sizable sale, but have also earned negative word of mouth. Good job.

I was skeptical after reading many reviews of this business so I called them up before placing my order for a MHW Alchemy jacket. They told me it was in stock so I made the order. My shipment was processed and left their store the next day! (equipped with tracking number). Free 3 day shipping was awesome, ordered on Thursday evening and had my jacket by midday on Monday. Five of five from me, Ill be back!

I ordered some La Sportiva Spitfires on Amazon and they were shipped from Oregon Mountain Community. I loved them while they lasted but they ended up breaking on the 4th use... OMC set me up with a return and a stiffer pair of Spectre boots within an hour of emailing them. They gave me a great deal on the upgrade too! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone! Also Bennett is the man!

I went in for the first time earlier today to try and some Salomon boots and received excellent customer service from Sven. Although I didnt make the purchase, ill certainly return to Oregon Mountain Community in the near future. The store had a very laid-back relaxed atmosphere with friendly and knowledgeable staff. Sven even gave me some hiking tips for Mount Hood.

OMC is the place to go in portland for ski gear, and their rock climbing selection is pretty great too. The staff really know what theyre doing (unlike some other places in town), and theyre the only ones Id trust to work on my skis and give me solid advice on gear.

Very helpful staff, took the time to explain gear in a non-d bag way that is so common with ski shops. Prices are average with the occasional awesome sale. Worth considering when looking at the other big shops in the area.
