This store, however tiny, has everything you need. However, sometimes the staff is less than friendly. Today I was looking at paint samples, and one of the staff asked me what I was painting. I said I was planning on painting my aluminum travel trailer, and she acted very shocked, as though I was out of my mind for wanting to paint an aluminum travel trailer. She said "we dont have auto body stuff here." I said that it was possible to paint a travel trailer with exterior housepaint, and she sort of scoffed. But unlike her, I have done my research, and its fine to pain aluminum with exterior housepaint, as long as you prime it first. This staff member was very hostile. I wish, when shed asked me what I was painting, that Id said "none of your business." I wonder if they train staff members to ask customers what theyre working on, and then scoff at their projects? I wont be returning here, if I can avoid it.

Ive gone into this store on four different occasions and dealt with 3 different individuals during those transactions. Everytime Ive left the store feeling as if I should have left my purchase on the shelf due to being wretched from the top of the aisle as I peruse the shelves in search of my supplies, not being offered a bag after making purchases of several items, purchase items being thrown carelessly into bags Ive requested, lack of acknowledgment in the form of eye contact during purchases, and customer service that felt more like being tolerated than valued as a customer. Mind you Im employed in the construction trades, and know exactly what Im looking for when I arrive. I was going to this store due to the convenience of its proximity to my home; unfortunately thats not even enough of a plus to coerce me back. My last purchase was yesterday.

A big part of what makes the neighborhood walkable and livable. Hankins on MLK has been my go-to "everything store" for many years, and it continues to improve. They have an AMAZING variety of merchandise for such a small space. Paint and all related tools, fasteners, garden stuff, power and hand tools, plumbing, electric, a little lumber, a few household items, even candy and popcorn. I go there for specific homeowner items, and for craft and hobby "off-label" solutions. The staff is friendly and helpful, always willing to help me figure things out. Theres a bike staple out front, and its easily accessible from the east side of the neighborhood via the back driveway, without ever having to ride on MLK, which is nice.

hankins has been my store for 7 years. in a world of warehouse stores that put small business under, i am grateful to have a hardware store like hankins in the neighborhood. if you cant find something, you may have to ask and one of the 2 people working might be helping someone else, but be appreciative that they are there. i have special ordered many things through hankins and they are helpful. if you want someone to hold your hand, go to home depot but if you want to get lost in a cool little hardware store and arent afraid to ask for help, go to hankins.

One of my favorite places in the neighborhood. Truly diverse employees and diverse customers. They donate the use of their popcorn machine to a neighborhood non-profit for fund raising dances. They keep it real everyday by taking care of everyone who walks in the door. Never have felt or seen prejudice here in any form. Dont expect to get pampered though...Thanks for staying in the neighborhood all these years Hankins!

for the most part they have a little of everything, I have been doing a rather extensive remodel and they have had almost all of the parts for my re-plumb, all of the electrical boxes and some of the tools that I needed and didnt have. overall they are faster and better located than home depot, (BTW hires temps now) I try and go to hawkins first and if they dont have what I need then it is off to a box store

Contrary to another review, I found the staff to be very helpful (friendly too). They know their stock, and their stock variety is excellent for a neighborhood hardware store. They also were quick to provide a pointer for where to get the one thing I needed that they didnt have. One can save a lot of trips to a more distant Home Depot or a plumbing supply house or whatever by visiting Hankins!

called this shop today to try to see if they had a part - and granted i wasnt completely sure about the part - but was met with some really bad customer service - the guy on the phone seemed to be very annoyed with me... i guess its my fault for trying to see if they had a part that i could purchase from them - oh well

This is a store that knows its business. They have all the little things you need to make the day-to-day repairs around your house, from fixing toilets to those "aw crap" moments when your curtain rods didnt come with enough screws. They have what I need, when I need it, at reasonable prices. nuf said.

They are there always ready to help me and have been really nice and spent a lot of time on helping me find the right piece even if it was just $.50. I really appreciate the attitude that Ive come across, respectfully acknowledging that I know a thing or two and no mansplaining just cause I am female.

Misogynist hardware store. None of these previous positive reviews must have been written by a woman. This has to be the most misogynistic hardware store I have ever been in! I watched as they condescendingly talk to women and never ask them if they need help but are right there to help the men.

Great selection of products, great service, great music, popcorn, off street parking. In short, a miniature vacation from this sad, cruel world.

Good service, and unless I am looking for something huge like sheetrock, they almost always have it in stock.
