Ive been to this particular Bike Gallery several times since moving downtown, and only because its the nearest shop. Invariably, I am treated as if I know nothing about cycling equipment, which is far from the truth. On one occasion, I received a response that almost had me convinced I was crazy - all I needed was a brake caliper. After being challenged and made very uncomfortable about asking (as if it was a huge inconvenience), I was brought a pair of brake levers. At that point I decided to do business elsewhere, as my suspicions of their incompetence and lack of respect had been solidified. Going in again today was a mistake as well. I tried to avoid being "helped" by the staff, and went directly back to the tire and tube section to get a couple extra tubes. To be sure of the kind/color/characteristics of the valve stem on the tube Id chosen, I started to open one end of the package – no sooner did I do so than a staff person objected rudely and convinced me to buy a cheaper tire. After buying that tire, I found out that the valve stem was the wrong color. Returning the tires tomorrow will hopefully be my last visit to the Bike Gallery for any cycling needs whatsoever. They have failed to meet any of my (low albeit) expectations, and have consequently lost a customer.

Ill offer two stars because they have a good selection of parts and gear, which somewhat counters the poor experiences Ive had with their staff who seem more interested in sales than they are knowledgeable of cycling gear. The most prominent example of this was asking a member of their shop a basic question about braking solutions for my mid-80s Miyata 1000 prior to a bike tour. He frowned, then said "theres nothing you can do about brakes on an old bike like that and youre going to need a more dedicated touring frame for a week-long bike tour. We have a few touring bikes if youd like to take a look." Sure, its an older bike, but the Miyata 1000 is not lacking as a "dedicated touring frame" (the famed Sheldon Brown describes it as the "finest off-the-shelf touring bike" from the 80s). Fortunately, I disregarded this staff persons advice to spend ~$1200 at their shop on a new bike and instead opted to upgrade the components I needed on my own (for a grand total of $32 via ebay). Thanks but no thanks, Bike Gallery.

The place looks immaculate! A bicyclists dream if they have tons.of.money to.blow. ive been to a few bike shops for parts or a tune up. This was the closest to where I was, and it is the jiffy lube of bike shops, I have an old used bike I had got from a friend and just popped in for a tune up ($20 at the other 2 places ive had it done) and told them im New at biking. bike gallerys low priced option was $45. The guy offers me an estimate and I tell him I dont have enough for the premium at $275. He comes back and claimsb that its a death trap unless I pay $225 to get half of the parts replaced, $375 to get it in good working order. I try for a second opinion somewhere else and the guy does the tune up and replaces a.nad tire for $30. Never.going to bike gallery again.

When I called in the morning to ask if a broken front derailleur cable could be repaired during the afternoon if I dropped the bicycle off during the lunch hour, the service staff assured me more than once the repair would be ready by 5:00 (on the phone and in person). I made it clear the bike was my transportation and I needed it finished (no kidding). I was assured it would be ready. I called at 4:45 to check and they hadnt started on the repair. Dont make promises (assured ones) on which you cant deliver. You are now recklessly disrespecting my most precious commodity - time. Sure fire way to lose this customer (period). Not the first time service has been poor at this location. Thought I would give them another chance. Never again...

Bike Gallery is a great shop, the staff is both informative and respectful. They have a good selection and dont try to sell you things you dont need. Tobin was very patient and helpful when I was in there debating a purchase, I cant say enough good things about my experience at this bike shop. As a true testament to this shop, I actually chose to buy bikes from here in person and ship them back to me versus buying from a local retailer in Minnesota. There was a slight issue with one of the bikes purchased (in shipping not even the shops fault) and Roger didnt hesitate to do more than he had to, to ensure I was completely satisfied with my purchase. Seriously, buy from these guys in confidence.

My bikes chain came off and tangled tight next to the body. I rode the street car to the store and walked the bike in. They were very friendly and directed me to service. They said they could fix it and it would be about $10-15 unless they found something else wrong. They fixed it in 30 minutes while we ate lunch, found out the de-railer needed adjusting so they did that to prevent a reoccurance, and charged us $10. We saw a nice selection of bikes and my wife is thinking of buying one. We will buy it here because of the way we were greeted and treated.

I walked in and no one talked to me for ten minutes. Both sales people were aloof and not nice at all. When they did talk to me, I tried some small talk they smirked at each other. I own a $2000 Klein and they still looked down on my bike and made a couple of rude comments about my bike. "Kleins used to be nice, but theres no way I would ride one now"," Treks are so much better"and so on. Are the bike gallery staff elitists or just rude jerks? Both, I think. Treat people with respect.

Great place to take your bike for an evaluation and repair for an insurance claim following a car accident. Josh oversees things from start to finish and provides excellent service the whole time. They go the extra mile to make sure your happy with their work (like bringing in the sea foam green handle bar tape from another location that day). My bike is in great shape now! (which is important because its my "car") I will be taking my bike here for future repairs :)

It was raining (imagine that in Portland), I had a flat downtown. Instead of patching it, I walked ten blocks to get a tube from the Gallery. They let me change it outside their shop. When the tire wouldnt come off the rim and then when the tube they solds valve broke, the friendly staff offered to have me take the tire to the repair area where theyd get around to it sometime tomorrow and charge. They wouldnt just offer me a hand or a space to work.

Bike Gallery lives up to its top rated customer service. I have never purchased a bike from the shop but their prices are no different than any retailer in the Portland area. They carry a handfull of sale bikes but their gear and maintenance is great. I have had two bikes looked over and worked on the last two weeks. I have strolled in early and had my bike back the same day. Great shop in the downtown area and the manager, James, is excellent.
