Burrus is the most complete grocery store on Hatteras Island. The selection is small compared to a normal grocery store but it has everything you need for a week or two stay on the island. I really loved visiting the store and just looking around at all of the different stuff they had on the shelves. Lots of different brands and always a fun surprise to be found. The service is top notch. Every employee I came in contact with was very pleasant. I even had a manager come up and ask me how my day was going as I looked for chips. Everyone was genuinely kind and helpful and that was part of the charm. I will certainly be back several times next time Im in there area. They always had plenty of great deli meat and cheese plus cheerwine and sundrop. What else do you need?

The owner went above and beyond for us tonight. We arrived around 9 and the store was closed due to maintenance. My husband needed cold remedies (he is an officiant to a wedding tomorrow and lost his voice.) The owner unlocked the door and walked us to each aisle for everything we needed ( tea, Apple cider vinegar, cold medicine). He even stated he would sell us a portion of the vinegar if we didnt need it all. Ive never seen such great customer service and care. Thank you so much!

I have been coming to this store forever. The 1960s photo is the one I remember most fondly. They have what you need and the family owned store reflects the friendly atmosphere you will find inside. Alan Burrus treats my 93yo mother like a queen when she comes in. She was also friends with his parents and his brother whom we all miss.

Uh this place looks like its closed down. They dont have much at all, its really not worth your time to stop. The cashier couldnt count money, gave us less change back until we said you didnt provide enough change. She said oh yeah it was only $1.80. Weirdos

Whoa. What happened. Shelves were empty. Didnt have much of anything. Like another reviewer said, I thought the place was closing permanently. Looks like you now have to drive to Buxton for groceries.

Cheaper than expected. Start of the season, shelves are a little bare but we got nearly all we needed. Much nicer folks than Lee Robertson General Store.

Great little Grocery Store. Unless you want to drive all the way up to Avon, this is the best place to stop to pick up your Groceries.
