This review isnt necessarily reflective of the whole shop, the artists that work here are great from what I have seen, but I had a really un-professional experience with Paul. I went in to meet with Paul way back at the beginning of August, I had heard good things about him. I had sent in an appointment request online and he got back to me pretty quickly. We spoke on the phone and I came into the shop with my ideas. I wanted a pretty large back piece, its going to be my largest tattoo yet so needless to say I want it done right, and I was a little nervous about going to someone that I had never been to before. I explained what I was looking for and he said he would call me within the week with a drawing. I also told him that I wanted to start on it by the end of August, it was a birthday present to myself. I put down a $20 deposit for the drawing to be done. Two or three weeks after I initially came into the shop, Paul called me and said he couldnt remember where I wanted it. Strike one. I explained to him where I wanted it, and again what size I wanted. I didnt think much of it because he was working on another tattoo when I had gone in to talk to him the first time, and my phone had been acting up so I wasnt sure if he had tried to get a hold of me sooner. Anyways, we got everything figured out again, and he told me it would be another 2 or 3 days before he would have the drawing done for me. 3 or 4 weeks later, he finally called me and said he had a rough sketch, not what I would have expected after having more than a month to work on my design. I went in to look at the drawing, which I wasnt completely satisfied with, but I wanted to see what the finished design would look like so I told him to go ahead and draw up the final drawing, that was almost a month ago. Its the almost end of October and I told him I wanted to start on the piece mid-August. Its been almost 3 months since I first went into the shop. It seemed as if Paul didnt take me seriously at all, and didnt treat me with any professionalism. The piece I was going to get done with Paul was going to cost me about $400-$600 dollars. I feel that if someone is planning to spend that much money for your artistic abilities, you should be professional about it and take the customer seriously. I may not look like the typical customer that comes into a tattoo shop, but I love body art, I have two tattoos currently, and I have my nipples pierced so I was completely prepared for the pain of having a large tattoo done. Im not completely putting down the whole shop at all, you should always try things out for yourself first. I was just really disappointed in the service I received from Paul.

I had two flower tattoos on my back from a little over five years ago. They were not professionally done, and while I loved them, they always felt incomplete and I was really unhappy with the final product. I decided to check out Double Deuce after reading the reviews online and I am so happy with the outcome. I found some images online that were the kind of look I was interested in using to bring the flowers together as a more cohesive piece. Scott was the artist who ended up working with me (I had viewed all the artists work online and would have been happy to work with anyone, but when I went in to make an appointment, Steve (the piercer) showed Scott and another artist the photos I had brought and Scott said it was something he would be interested in working on). After a few days, Scott showed me the design he had come up with, we made some minor changes, and then got me inked up. With the new design added and at Scotts advice, I could clearly see how amateur the flowers looked compared to the new ink. There was a second session to fix the old flowers and make the lines cleaner and straighter, and a final session to put new color in and bring the whole thing together as a complete and cohesive piece. Scott was so great to work with throughout the experience. I really wanted my piece to look great, and considering it is on my back, I really trusted his opinions when he made recommendations. This thing is going to be on my body forever, I paid nearly $1000 for it total. I wanted it to look amazing and it absolutely does. I am so in love with the final outcome! Scott communicated very well with me while I was being tattooed. I gave him a decent bit of artistic freedom (hes the professional, I really trusted that he understands tattoos more than I do), but he was always sure to check in with me before doing anything we hadnt specifically talked about before. The shop was really clean and comfortable. The guys were all so professional and respectful. I definitely recommend you go to Double Deuce for your next tattoo!

Ive had six pieces done by Scott over the course of the past year and Im on the schedule for my 7th. Ive spent close to 24 hours total sitting in the chair and have had a chance to get a good long look at Double Deuce. The staff is always courteous and helpful to myself and the people that I see walk in the door. As other reviewers have noted, the place is very clean and a safe environment is a top priority. Ive been in dentist offices that look worse. Ive had straight up stencils that Ive put together as well as original art done and in every case the output and quality of the work exceeded my expectations. Scott does a great job of making suggestions to turn any idea into a one of a kind work of art. He pays particular attention to the placement of each piece making it look like part of my body as opposed to something slapped on willy nilly. I recently had an opportunity to share his work with colleagues who specifically travel the world to get a piece done by so and so in such and such location. Dark and clean lines, sharp angles, and fine needle work made the Double Deuce tattoos stand out above all of the comparisons. Im not interested in color, but Ive seen some amazing color work done by the guy in the next booth over, Derek. If thats your thing, I dont think youd go wrong there. Overall, a great place for a first time experience or adding to your collection. My daughter is interested in some piercing and my son is talking about his first tattoo and should they choose to follow through on those ideas, Id point them right to Double Deuce.

Well let me begin by sharing that I was shopping for a cover-up tattoo. I visited a tattoo shop downtown Raleigh to inquire about my options. Lets just say the artist was not welcoming, he was dismissive, and gave me the overall impression that his business did not need my business at all. He also suggested starting from scratch with an altogether new tattoo to cover-up the one I had. I visited Double Deuce some days later because I noticed it in a shopping plaza I frequent. I met Scott. I met Scott. I met Scott. Some folks are just deal sealers that youd risk it all with. Scott was knowledgeable, he answered all my questions and he suggested that the tattoo be touched-up ONLY. I fell in love with him immediately because I am not a tatooey girl anymore. I got the tattoo done when I was 18 and never had it touched up. I only had that tattoo. He said Ill use the tattoo you have and embellish it. My embellishment will get rid of the portion you no longer want. Scott did an amazing job. He saved me. He enhanced my tattoo, made it pop and inked over the area I wanted gone. Hes amazing. Hes hospitable, humorous, creative, professional and a joy to share your tattoo experience with. Place "Double Deuce Tattoo" on your short list of qualified, safe, tattoo parlors/ artists that are capable and ready to deliver that flawless new or cover-up ink.
