Mike and I have spoken since this review and we agree that the essence of the problem lies in communication and expectations. These are side issues that shouldnt take away from the essence of what Mike does, so I have boosted his rating 2 stars!! OLD REVIEW: On the positive side: my hardware problem was fixed, so 3 stars for the alls-well-that-ends-well aspect of this. Im lucky. Had we run into problems (or if I still run into problems), I dont know what we would have done. The minuses: * I received no estimate of either time or money to fix, despite having asked for both. I called while I waited, looking to find out how much this would cost and when it would be done, and left an un-answered voice message. I finally just went back after an hour away to find out what the heck was going on, and was informed that work was complete. * A bit pricey. It was ultimately $125. I probably would have said yes if told in advance, but since it remained an unknown till the end, it was a bit of a shocker. (What if I had said "thats too much"? Would Mike have kept the machine? Would we have had a fight?). * No invoice and no receipt. Therefore, no recourse and no warranty on work. * Cash or check only, which I didnt know until the deal was done. What if I had said I only have credit cards? Would Mike have kept the machine until I was able to find a bank? Mike seemed to know what he was doing, and said hes been doing this for a long time. But if this is going to be a business, it should act like a business. This should include all of the items above and at least a small sign on the door, indicating that you really are at a place of business, rather than merely a private address.

brought my acer netbook to mike bc my hard drive detached from the motherboard. He told me he would look at it and call me back with an estimate...3 days went by so i called him. Surprisingly he said he fixed it! so i was like ok..how much...he says $175!!!! what?! thought you said you would call me with an estimate?!...says he installed new OS with windows 7 ultimate, microsoft office and put a virus protector on it ( ALL of which I did not ask for!!!) needless to say..i didnt have the money so i had no choice but to leave my laptop there for a month until i was able to gather the money ( I am an unemployed single mom, in school) picked up my laptop saturday 9/8/12 at 630 pm...all seemed fine so i paid him$175...Sunday at 9 pm...it shut off and i got the blue screen of death. brought it back to him as another customer was dropping there desktop off. 10 minutes after leaving he calls to tell me that the hard drive is detached again. I told him that i do not know how that happened as He was too have sodded or welded it back down. He says it looks like someone ripped it off...really??????? why would i pay you $175 and then go home and rip it off again?! he said he would attempt to fix it again...and I asked for free right...he replied that no he would charge me...REALLY? he obviously did not do it right the first time...I went right back and took my netbook back...bc honstly i cant afford to be ripped off again by this guy. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH HIM. when i asked him about a warranty..he was like oh your computer is fine...look where that got me...still with a broken netbook and him with a free $175....I AM TAKING HIM TO COURT!!!

This place is not run like a business nor set up like one. Case in point, he works out of the basement of his home. Its a hobby for Mike. Mike rarely answers the phone and we basically texted back and forth after he talked me into bringing my iPhone in for repair by telling me he had the parts to fix it. I drove the 30 minutes to bring the phone in for repair only to find out he did not have the parts. I did not hear from Mike for a week and only after I called him. He was not able to fix my phone and after 35 days, he still has it. I told him that I needed a final answer by a certain date because I was moving out of the area. He nevercontacted me and still has my phone. Once again, this is not a business, its a guy working on computers as a hobby who is not business savvy and lacking customer service skills. Would not recommend nor bring my business to him ever again! Update - Mike the owner contacted me after my review and explained to me that he was still looking for a phone replacement because he could not fix the problem. I told him that I would rather just have the phone back so I could destroy it since the phone was not worth much. He immediately mailed it back to me as I requested. He did apologize for the miscommunication regarding my leaving the area.

I called A & M because they were local and easy to find. I asked the proprietor - Mike Coogan - for an estimate on the two laptops I brought him. One was my sons Toshiba that clearly needed a new hard drive. The other was my fiances Toshiba that needed a new screen. Mike seemed a bit confused - asking me for my name and phone number to write on an address label he was putting on the bottom of the second machine after he had just finished writing up the first one. He gave me no invoice and no claim check - just said hed call when he had an estimate for me. A week later I called him back, only to find out that hed already done the work without my authorization. And he charged me $375. If he had given me the estimate to begin with, I would taken it to someone else for a second estimate or have replaced the hard drive myself. I was furious, but what could I do? He wanted the check made out to "cash," so I complied and went on my way. Do not use this man for your computer repair. Hell find a way to separate you from your money whether you want him to or not.

details are a long story. I live in Manhattan, so the son, who seemed very bright, covers this area. He obliterated my Outlook Express account "because you hadnt told me to save it". It was center front on my desktop, and a lot of his saving and deleting of files on my computer meant saving everything on my Desktop. He just didnt know, and he said evidently I wasnt computer savvy enough to tell him. Well if I was computer savvy, I wouldnt have hired the guy! (first I was in shock, and I have spent tens of hours trying to recover, and trying to gather information back.) he told me for more money, $100, he would try to recover the lost info. I told him if he retrieved it, we would be even because my computer was worse than when he got to it, so I had in effect paid $225 for his learning curve-- and hours of aggravation. He balked at the idea and acted like he was going to hang up since I was insulting [him].)
