This is my first and last time dealing with PepBoys at this location. My mechanic told me I have a faulty battery (which was purchased from pepboys) since the car was fine until we installed this battery. He unhooked all the unnecessary wires, we took out the negative feed, and it would still end up being drained at the end of the day, and it was not the alternator or the starter, trust me, my mechanic has been in business for a long time, and hes not a dumbass either, the made sure to check those first. BUT, as soon as I walk into pepboys, they tell me that they have to check the battery, which is fine with me, I dont mind, my mechanic did it too. However, they did not want to listen to the most important part, that the battery comes up at normal range, but this is the only thing that has been put into this car and ever since then it has not worked. Of course no one listened to me, maybe because Im a woman and my ovaries impede my ability to understand simple properties of physics and how cars operate, "yes, I know they go vroom-vroom!" But then it got even more complicated as the staff informed me that I had to take the battery out myself, bring it into the store to test it which their fancy $2000 battery tester, then put it back in myself which is a pain in the butt to do with a mercedes benz, and after all this, they would probably have them tell me that its in normal range again, all for which I would have had to pay for. REALLY!? Then, of course, me trying to explain my situation thoroughly, no one would listen and the guy who was explaining this to me started speaking to me like I was a 5 -year-old saying "well, we cant come out and test it, if you bought a battery pack. would we come outside and test the battery pack to refund it for you, no!" Started showing me a pack of batteries like I just got off the short bus, like this staff member seemed to think so. All this because pepboys were not the ones to install the battery. IT doesnt take a rocket scientist to put a battery in, it would be very hard to install it in incorrectly unless I did actually ride the short bus. So I drove, all the way from saint george, to be talked down to and told that I have to pay for them to test my battery even though I bought it from THEM, and that if it came up as "normal" then I would still have to pay, even though what I was trying to explain was the even though we disconnected the battery from the car, the next day it was drained, and my alternator is in great condition, so its not that or the starter. No! Its the battery, but I guess pepboys wants to lose more customers by acting this way. My advice is, listen to the customer, not only when they want to purchase something, but also when they need your help and for you to replace the battery because statistics show that when a person has a negative experience somewhere, they will tell an average of 11 people, and youve already had enough bad feedback on google as it is. Also, please dont solicit me to make it better, there is nothing you can do short of replacing this battery like your warranty says, but I will not wait for that, Im taking my business elsewhere instead of having to deal with these people ever again.

Ive tried to be a loyal customer at this store, because Ive bought tires and auto parts there many times. But the people in the service department are clueless about what theyre doing. Today was the last straw -- I brought my car there to have the brake fluid changed, and in the course of the discussion I mentioned Ive used both Dot 3 and Dot 4 brake fluid in the car. They immediately refused to do the repair, claiming I had "contaminated" my brake system and they were required to refuse the job for my own "safety." This was a misunderstanding of the way brake fluids work. There is one brake fluid, Dot 5, that absolutely cannot be mixed with any of the other brake fluids because its silicone based. But this is mostly used in racing, and regular brake fluids for normal cars (including Dot 3 and Dot 4) are pretty much interchangeable. Anyone who ever worked on his or her own cars would know this, but not the guys at Pep Boys. Apparently they ban any mixing of brake fluid because counting to 5 is too confusing for them. So I went to Midas, which is right down the street. The service guy there was perfectly fine doing the job and told me they get lots of repairs that were bungled by Pep Boys. They wont get anymore chances to bungle mine.

I went here to get 2 tires installed (which I already had) and I wanted an alignment done. First off when I spoke to the guy on the counter, he wouldnt tell me the prices right away. I kept asking him and then he said $160. He made that price up according to 4 tires installation and an alignment. I told him its for two tires before and corrected him again. Then he said okay $130. I told him I have a $10 coupon for alignment, first he said its for the expensive alignment, I showed him the coupon on there website and it said any alignment. He said okay well apply it later. Even without the coupon my total was suppose to be $115. The alignment is $85 and the 2 tires installed are suppose to be $15 each. i called them before coming here and they said the wait is about half hr, I waited more than an hour and my car still wasnt being serviced, so I asked for my keys and left. I came to pep boys thinking its a franchise so they wont rip me off and they have exact prices for their services. Turns out they are very shady and trying to get the most money out of you. Avoid this place at all cost, and bring your business elsewhere.

I set an appointment for 10 am and was here at 945 am. They just called me at 4pm say no they couldnt figure out how to unlock my car with a simple car key remote. Then when I come in and Im extremely courteous they think its a laughing matter and get disrespectful. The current time 4:35 pm and I will be reporting this business and push for this location to be shut down. Bad management and bad workers with a worst attitude. Update September 13, 2017 so I received a call from the gentleman that runs the store and I tell you he has changed my unhappiness about my experience and is fixing the situation. Gave me a. New appointment and he said personally he is going to oversee whats going on with my car. He even offered to pay a ticket I received because my car wasnt fixed. His customer service alone with the leadership who I shared my experience with deserve all the credit. I greatly appreciate you reaching out to me personally I will never forget this and thank you so much. So hopefully Tuesday I get good news. Thank you Nick you are a true leader.

RIP OFF PLACE!!! At Pep Boys (1941 Forest Avenue, Staten Island) paid about $100 just to get an estimate on what would cost me to fix AC/Heat switch that was broken on my Ford Minivan. It took the mechanic at Pep Boys about 5-6 hours just to get back to me with a “reasonable explanation” that the worst thing happened and that it would take him whole day to work on it. What didn’t sound reasonable to me was the cost over $1,500-$1,600. While I was there waiting customer before me had big fight with the mechanic for "doing" phony work. So next day my wife took the vehicle to 505 Tompkins Ave (her friends suggested) where the mechanic (also the owner) fixed the problem within 2 hours charging only $270, knowing how much pep boys asked for the same problem!!!. My wife showed the mechanic the printout from Pep Boys so that they would know what’s wrong with AC/Heat. It has been 3 years that I go to this single location on Tompkins Avenue for anything that has to do with my vehicle.
