I dont usually do reviews but I thought that this is something very important so I am giving people a warning. It all started in 2012 when my wife and I bought a Jeep Commander from Carmax in Indianapolis. We had done some research and new what we wanted when we went there. The Jeep we looked at was reasonably price (right at KBB) for a Jeep with that millage and no damage. We were happy! Fast forward to January 2014 and addition of the sound of little feet. We looked to trade in the Jeep to get a Minivan for my wife. Carmax wasnt here yet so we went to another dealer. To our surprise we were informed that the Jeep had been in a major accident and had the rear end replaced. The dealer apologized but said they could only offer 50% of the KBB as they couldnt sell it on their lot. I was furious!! I contacted Carmax in Indianapolis and they said they needed me to take it to a Carmax center and have them inspect it. The closest one was a 600 mile round trip so I decided to wait until this one opened. A week ago my wife took it in and explained the situation. They stated that the service center was closed and they wouldnt be able to give an appraisal unless they were here. They wanted to make sure there was no frame damage. I asked them to just give me an appraisal as if it didnt have frame damage because that was what they were going to say any way (if it did have frame damage they would have to take it back). So I took an afternoon off and went back during the service department hours. Sure enough, no frame damage. So I thought I would get an offer of what KBB thought the trade in value was. NOPE! They already knew that no place else was willing to give me over 50% KBB so they offered 1K over the other offers (still 40% below KBB). I did not sell it to them. They have almost the exact same Jeep for sale for 8K more then they offered me (but Im sure this one doesnt have major repairs). So only one of two things could have happened. They knowingly sold me a Jeep that had damage and didnt disclose it or they didnt know and there "125 point" inspection missed it. Either way, they will not make it right. GO TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP THAT WILL STAND BY THEIR DEALS!

Worst experience ever. Classic bait and switch. Spent countless hours searching for a vehicle, when we found it, Carmax had it. We went in to view it and I noticed 2 areas on the paint that needed to be sanded down and repainted. SMALL areas... both combined would have less surface area then half a dollar bill. I talked with the sales rep, I told him I would buy this vehicle IF those two areas were taken care of. He said he would talk to service and let us know when the car was ready for pickup. 4 days later, we received a text message "Car is ready!" We went in, didnt get to see the car, filled out all the paperwork, made my $4k down payment and were then finally allowed to see the vehicle. The paint areas were filled in with what looked like magic marker. I told them this was unacceptable, we filled out some service request paperwork and were told we would be called when service could look at it. 4 days later we were called in for service to look at it. We took it in and 15 min later they announced "Done!" I inspected the work and found that this time they used paint to touch up the spots. I asked if it was sanded down and primed, they said no, just painted. I explained that this was not a condition I made prior to sale. The service manager rudely stated "This vehicle meets our standards, there is nothing more we can or will do for you." So, I do not recommend Carmax to anyone. Please consider the one star I had to give a 0 star

This is the 8th vehicle purchase I have made in the past 15 years, and it was BY FAR the best experience I have ever had. This is the new standard all car dealerships should strive for. Most of all, No BS ! (Heres the price of our car. Heres what well give you for your car(cash or trade), No tricks, no pushy sales people. Huge selection of vehicles, knowledgeable staff, and clean, comfortable facility. Ed S. (our salesman) was very patient with us as we test drove several vehicles. He was knowledgeable, and easy to talk to. It was like looking for a car with an old friend. Every member of the CarMax team was exceptionally polite, and professional. Any concerns we had, were addressed immediately. They made a slightly complex purchase (trading in 2 vehicles) seem like it was no big deal, when another local dealership (D.Dodge) couldnt be bothered with such a "hassle". If I could say anything negative at all, ..they do push the Maxcare (warranty) a bit, but all businesses are trained to push the warranties. At least they have quite a few warranty options to choose from, and it did give me some peace of mind. This was a great experience for me. Highly recommended. Oh yeah,.. I love the car.

I WOULD GIVE 50 STARS IF I COULD!!! Carmax is the most amazing place to buy a car from. They say they are "hassle free", they are telling the truth. I had 2 cars in mind from viewing the inventory online and when I contacted the sales rep, we only discussed those vehicles. This was new to me as I am used to other dealers always trying to push me to get something I didnt ask for, usually its the oldest car on the lot with a lot of miles or one they are having a hard time selling. I test drove both cars and the one in particular had my heart. We ran the finance app and I was instantly approved with a low APR (11%) and I will only be paying $237/month. Mind you my credit score is very poor. If Carmax got me into my dream car, they can do it for anybody. They also give you an automatic 90 day warranty for your vehicle. New York State only requires a minimum 30 day warranty which tells you Carmax stands behind every vehicle they sell. I purchased the MaxCare extended warranty just to give myself an additional piece of mind. Cathy Ignizio was my sales rep and she was the best!!!! Carmax you should do whatever it takes to keep Cathy. I am a Carmax customer for life!!!
