pretty cool bar with a great crowd. i noticed construction happening a while back, but figured it would be a cafe/coffee shop. Turns out it was a bar! Imagine how excited I am, living just down the block from a bar i can frequent. i came here with my buddies a few weeks back and had a pretty good time. To be honest, i dont really remember much as i was plastered when i got there. Only remember drinking a tsing tao and sweating up a storm since i dont think there was A/C. bouncer was cool too. we were acting a fool outside the bar and the he didnt give us any trouble. told us to chill out a bit and even asked if we needed him to call us a cab. bar seems to be ALWAYS be packed at night. i get off late at times and can see crowds outside on a Tuesday/Wednesday. Also see people taking cabs to come here...which is surprising considering this area isnt very touristy. As much as i enjoyed the bar and love having a bar so close to my apartment - i give 4 stars only because of its location. Growing up in Chinatown..you notice things changing. bars and businesses are popping up all over and Chinatown is slowly losing its culture..but thats a discussion for somewhere else. bottom line: the bar is pretty awesome and you should check it out. theres always a great crowd and i bet youll have tons of fun. on a side note - theres a restaurant down the block that serves up killer dumplings...open till late.

One of my first reviews on Yelp was for the original ChikaLicious across the street. It was years ago, and I was pretty harsh on the business which prompted a response from the business owners. It seems only fitting that I now review the more "affordable" of the two. It gets pretty cramped in here. Along one side are the tables made for hobbits, and along the other side is basically standing room considering the seating consists of plush stools waiting to eject onto the floor. The standing room is also the area where people are lining up to order; so to be as accurate as possible: youll most likely be standing. I had two desserts: the green tea mille crepe with yuzu and the green tea molten lava cake. I was wrong to assume the mille crepe cake was even remotely comparable to the one at my favorite dessert place, Lady M Cake Boutique. The layers of this cake created a texture not unlike eating soggy cardboard with no hint of yuzu. The molten lava cake fared much better with its take on the traditional chocolate lava cake. The green tea ooze combined with a not too sweet cake and green tea ice cream made for a heavenly dessert. Averaged out, still average. If in the area, Id still come back for the green tea soft serve- it seemed to be a favorite among patrons.

So we checked this place out quite a few times in last few weeks and finally decided to eat here after having dinner at a nearby restaurant. The spot itself is small with menu menu pasted on the walls and can probably seat 8 people inside. There is though some seating available on the street outside. They have a reasonable number of options to chose your desert from, since we were planning on sharing we decided to try few things off the menu which included bread pudding, churro cone and a slice of cake. I think everything was just Okay and nothing stood out in terms of flavor. We were expecting some really great flavors but that did not happen with all we ordered. Considering how menu is priced it does feel a bit overpriced with not so great flavors. We will pass on this place as east village has a bunch of other amazing dessert spots.

- Tasty desserts for reasonable prices. - Quite a few of them are made to order. - The few Ive tried are super sweet, so generally I like to share items. Food: - Bun chika bun bun: Very rich, sweet and buttery. Baked to order and nicely crispy. - Michele Obama: Its basically, an Affogato - Soft serve with espresso, caramel and candied pecans on top. Very yummy, and a nice balance of flavors. - Bourbon Irish custard - ice cream with bourbon poured over and candied nuts and pistachios on top. Pretty tasty, like eating a baileys Irish cream. Ambiance: - Very popular Theres generally a line out the door. - Its a pretty small place, and is more a carry out than sit down, but there are a few tables and seats, if youre lucky. - You will have to deal with quite a bit of getting bumped into and jostled around while on line. Went: 4 times

you really cant go wrong with anything green tea @ chikalicious. at 20 degrees weather i manned up and got the red bean green tea shaved ice and it was worth the shivers. the soft serve is cleverly hidden in the middle of the shaved ice so you can have small scoops of it to pair with the green tea shaved ice. the soft serve was not overwhelmingly sweet and complimented well. got the green tea tiramisu to go and had it the following day for breakfast. talk about breakfast of champs, it was so good! there are crunchy bits in it and the green tea creme on top was delicious. desserts are all very well executed but the store itself, not so well executed. 2/3 of the store is dedicated to cashier/kitchen, and the other 1/3 crammed too many bodies. we can barely get in and out of the store without tripping over someone.

Dessert + French + Japanese, this would be the summary of Chikalicious. Prix fixe only, though its more like a dessert of choice, plus some small sized sorbet and candies, which often comes free at fine dining French restaurants. For the dessert, I chose fromage Blanc island cheesecake, which is a very light flourless cheesecake (mascapone?) in custard sauce. The idea is very similar to a French dessert - floating island. The execution is pretty good, as how Japanese are known for attention to details and persistence to perfection. Its a bit overpriced even to New York standard. Id rather have the free choice of ordering the main dessert only. The sorbet and Petits fours dont really stand out at all. Id rather skip, saving money and appetite for something else. Try to go early afternoon, or there might be quite a wait.

I came here to try the churro cone. They have 6 different flavors. I ordered the matcha/vanilla twist soft serve ice cream and red bean churro cone. First of all, the cone itself is $9.99 including tax. I dont mind paying that much if it lives up to the hype. Sadly, it does not. The cone itself is not a churro, its more like a cold croissant. The matcha ice cream was okay but there wasnt a lot of red bean. I think it would be better if it was just matcha ice cream and no vanilla twist. At least it comes in a plastic cone cover so it doesnt fall over. Ive had their cupcakes and other desserts. Theyre much better and not as expensive.

Chickalicious has expanded since I last lived here. They used to offer vanilla and green tea soft serve along an assortment of cupcakes. They still have both staples but now offer an array of cakes and pastries as well. The vanilla soft serve was written up ears ago and is the reason I ventured to find Chickalicious in the first place. Rich, smooth, and unbelievably creamy, it is extraordinary and worth a late night visit to satisfy your sweet tooth. As with the dessert bar across the street, everything is carefully made and absolutely delicious. Service is friendly and the space is tiny. Come, grab a dessert (or two), and hit the road.
