10.I purchased a TV/Dvr combo for my daughters Christmas present and did not get the recommended extended warranty, and @ 97 days (only had a 90 warranty if you can imagine that) and Best Buy refused to do anything. 9.Purchased a surround system for my sons Christmas present, and again within just days past the "Factory" warranty it broke, and you guessed it Best Buy refused to do anything again. 8. Purchased a home computer (again at Best Buy) having learned my lesson about the extended warranty I purchased it for the computer, and with in 1 year it was sent in for repairs. 7.Previously mentioned computer went to the "Geek Squad " for repairs, and they were unable to fix it, so they "sent it out" with out offering me >> the option of backing it up, and guess what....it was junked along with all of my information and family pictures. 6. Received "replacement" computer from Best buy, and you guessed it within 1 year it also was sent out to be repaired. No charge for repair, but to back up hard drive before being "sent out" was $100.00. 5. Same computer broke again and you guessed it, another $100.00 to back it up. 4. Same computer broke again within "days" of last "repair" and since it was recently backed up, we decided to save the $100 back up "fee" 3. Computer was found to be "junk" and I am sure thats a news flash to you by now so we elected to get a new one with the "store credit" and an additional $300.00. 2.Within days (I actually believe it was the very first time we used it) it didnt seem to be acting correctly, but since we had just received it back, and I was "less than pleased" at the quality of merchandise and "repairs" made on my equipment I elected to muddle through the issues and not return it to the store, but the issue never got better only worse, so I was left with no choice, so back it went. And the number 1 reason why you should not purchase any thing at Best Buy ever is because the same computer (still under factory warranty if you are keeping track) is going to cost me another $130.00 to back up the info, fix the problem, and reload the computer. I have decided to live with the issue instead of giving Best Buy one more cent of my hard earned money.

There are a bunch of scathing reviews of this bb, so I figured Id throw in my two cents for a bit of balance. Ive been a very regular customer for my small business - getting stuff that we need very quickly or thats actually cheaper than online (were in an Empire Zone business thingy, so we dont pay sales tax). While the place isnt exactly the peak of customer service and knowledgeable salespeople, and thereve been some obnoxious experiences (a clueless register person being unable to locate my tax exempt file), in general its been fine. Only that one salesperson was a bit rude; the rest are pleasant if not expert, and sometimes quite helpful. And my usual tax-exempt register lady actually recognizes me! Id be leery of coming in to do a big-ticket purchase (TV/computer) without knowing what I wanted beforehand, but for stop-n-grab stuff Ive had few complaints. The worst thing? Dont buy any of their rocketfish branded stuff. I made the mistake of grabbing a sound card (thinking anything had to be better than creative labs on the driver side) and it was an absolute abomination - and to top it off, it was just a rebrand of an obsolete Creative chipset and the drivers failed! BUT: I was able to return it no questions asked, and have never had a problem returning anything, whether it was broken or not. The best experience? I needed to pull my Pioneer head unit from my car but had lost the little puller things. I figured itd be worth paying for em or even paying the install people at BB $15 to yank it for me, but instead they offered to give me a set of pullers to do it myself and asked me to return them to the front desk. They didnt have any particular reason to make that effort, and I didnt know either of the guys, so thats a Good Thing. All in all, some of BBs corporate red tape is annoying, particularly regarding the Reward Zone stuff, but I have yet to find a really good reason to quit buying stuff there. For custom computer builds and high end stuff, I go to my local guy - but to grab a quickie LCD monitor or emergency power supply, its more than adequate.

As a person who has done quite a bit of computer repair, I would have to say most problems people have fall under one of two categories: They buy the least expensive things possible and expect it to be top performance, or they arent educated on the upkeep or proper use of the devices. Ive purchased computers at Best Buy twice now. A laptop that is now 11 years old and still going strong, and a gaming desktop which is almost 3 years old now with no problems. My experience has been that problems occur when people dont unplug their stuff during thunderstorms, are using old, ineffective surge protectors, or are downloading or viewing pages that are high risk for viruses. In any case, the problems are mostly self induced and not manufacturer or store problems. Aside from the two computers purchased at Best Buy, I also have 2 other desktops and 1 other laptop. The earliest any of them physically failed was at the 9 year mark. With proper upkeep and buying the proper equipment, most purchases will last. That said, are there duds you might buy? Yes, anything touched by man is flawed. But, there arent as many as people make out. Best Buy has always been notable for me as one of the friendliest, most knowledgeable places you can shop at for electronics. Anything that Ive bought at this store (aside from what my toddlers get a hold of and destroy) have lasted. Reliable place to shop.

Best buy has to be the single worst place to get a phone in the universe. I went to best buy last week to try to add a second (regular) phone to my iPhone account since the second phone was on sale. The workers at the Ithaca NY best buy had no idea how to convert an AT&T plan to familytalk and then port a number over. I sat there for literally one hour and a half as they tried to figure out their POS system which clearly nobody had been trained on. They had to call the helpline multiple times to figure out which menu items to select. When I asked the manager to step in and help out since it was getting complicated, he told me rudely that he didnt appreciate me telling him how to do his job (he was, instead, stocking bluetooth headsets just feet away from us the whole hour and a half). And even after the entire wait, when I called at&t 3 days later, they told me that best buy had simply set up 2 separate accounts and they were not linked as a family talk and that I would get 2 bills (she was able to fix it after yet another 1/2 hour) Then the AT&T PHONE REP actually told me that the next time I had to do something with the account, I should really go to a real at&t store and not best buy, since they dont know what they are doing. She actually said this. Time wasted adding second phone to plan - 2 hours Time saved by avoiding worst buy in the future - priceless.
