Who is giving this guy 5 stars? Are you insane? This guy overcharges, is rude, has horrible customer service. 1) He will cut keys for you that dont work 2) he will spill paint and then scrape the spilled paint back into the canister and then try and sell you it and it wont match AT ALL (yes happened to us) 3) he will tell you were something is and then hell at you from across the store when you cant find it, "RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU!" 4) he will make a makeshift scrub brush with a knife to whittle down the handle to make it fit something it shouldnt so that when you take it back home it doesnt work and falls apart 5) his assistant will say you cant find a better price when they charge 4 TIMES the amount you could get from amazon for a can of compressed air. This guy is the WORST. If you want to support local, support Ludwigs pharmacy, support the tailor across the street. Support Tanzarians hardware in park slope, the sooner this guy goes out of business the better the world will be for one less di@# to deal with people.

I am consistently beyond, and I want to emphasize BEYOND, impressed by the depth of knowledge that Jerry has and how attentive both Jerry and Liz are to my needs when I visit Mayday Hardware. Ive walked in looking for help with both minor and major projects and I always leave with a smile on my face (they crack me up!) and an education (they teach me how to do whatever Im trying to do; and I really dont know how to do any of this stuff!). Keep up the great work, team! You guys are THE BEST EVER! EDIT: The guy "B THOMAS" that posted on here is the kind of guy that shops at Target/Home Depot/Walmart and buys $80 Ralph Lauren polos with the stupid giant pony on the front. The dude doesnt get it, mon. Get outta here, "B THOMAS"! Ditto for "JOE BLOW" - both those dudes are too cowardly to post their full name next to their reviews; what does that tell you about the kind of people they are? Not welcome in Brooklyn, baby! This place is for real people only, but have fun shopping at your local POS stores in suburbia!

Great, helpful neighborhood spot! This place has been around through all the changes in the neighborhood and is a trusted local spot. The owner is very knowledgeable and always making helpful recommendations. As soon as you begin talking about what you need he finishes your thought and points you to the very item youll need for the job. I came in recently to change locks on my building and not only did they give me the hardware for the job but he wrote down step by step instructions on what to do and what not to do when changing out the locks. Without those instructions, I might have given up and paid much more money for a locksmith. Highly recommend going to Mayday for your hardware needs. His assistant is also super friendly and just about as helpful as one can be!

Do yourself a favor and take a walk to park slope and go to Tanzarian. I refuse to EVER go to this guys place ever again for ANY REASON. * Story #1: spilled paint, scraped it back in, and sold the can, paint didnt match. * Story #2: cut a key didnt work TWICE! * Stroy #3: needed a scrub brush, he made it fit at counter with a knife, I knew it wouldnt work, sure enough, got home and the thing fell apart I usually try and buy from the small guys, support them, they are hard working families. Not this guy/girl. These people are such horrible human beings, overcharge, are rude. I WANT THEM TO FAIL! I WANT THEM TO BE RUN OUT OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DONT GO TO THEM, I WILL PAY YOU NOT TO GO TO THEM, JUST EMAIL ME.

Ive lived in the area for 3 years, so Ive always known that Jerry and his wife who own the place are heinous. They are rude and unhelpful and overcharge. The one convenience for me is that they accept fedex and ups deliveries when im not at home for $3 charge. I had my ikea bedframe delivered to there bc i knew I wouldnt be home at the time. A week after estimated delivery after Jerry/wife said it definitely wasnt in the store, I checked with Ikea. They gave me the fedex tracking number and said it was delivered 9 days ago AND SIGNED FOR. Mrs. Mayday continues to play mean/dumb and says it never arrived and when i show her the fedex signature she still doesnt have an explanation. Now Im out a hundred bucks and infuriated!

I have shopped at Mayday for over 12 years, and have been consistently satisfied with the level and quality of service I have received. I hate to say it, but sometimes, shopping as a woman in unfamiliar realms, like hardware stores, makes me feel vulnerable and open to exploitation, but I long ago got over that fear with Jerry and his staff. I walk out educated, and have learned a lot over the years. Yes, you could probably find stuff cheaper and a far greater selection at a big box, but Jerrys my neighbor, hes 2 blocks away, and I truly enjoy his company. And if he doesnt have what you need, he will order it for you. What more could you ask for?

This store is the pits. I have an annual tradition of giving it another chance, but every time, pits. Shortly after todays lengthy, bitter and fruitless venture into Mayday I ran into a friend on the block and we bonded over how much of the pits this store is. She recommended Sisters hardware just a short jaunt down Washington @ Fulton St. I usually go to Pintchik which I have no qualms with but was already on Washington so over to Sisters I went. It was like a Garden of Eden in comparison. Sunlight, soul music, smiles and fair prices. I believe an annual tradition has just ended.

Walking in and asked where an object was. The guy did not even give me eye contact and decided to use his fingers to talk by pointing what direction. Asked for help several times and he just said its there "open your eyes" finally found it and brought it to the register to pay for it. Waited 10 mins before the transaction began and there was NO ONE ELSE IN THE STORE! Paid cash with a 20 he said he didnt have change for an item that was 6 dollars. Worst experience I have had sales wise, in living in this neighborhood for 2 years. Not worth even 5 mins of your time.

Someone else please open a hardware store in the neighborhood. The owner/manager is a major a**hole. Condescending with moods alternating between passive aggressive and plain old aggressive. Treats customers like trash. In the past I have been desperate to buy hardware items on short time schedule and have gone to this place, but I have been doing my best to plan ahead so I dont have to step in the store. People like this dont deserve to be serving this neighborhood. Vote with your dollar folks and take your business elsewhere!! Prospect Heights deserves better.

The talk is true: this guy is an all-star jackass, even by New York standards. I called them to confirm that they had some items. He could only muster a sigh, followed by "This is a serious hardware store." So I went. Surprise: they didnt have it. He said he misunderstood my request on the phone. Maybe he was too busy being put out by me to be paying attention. Even if this guy wasnt a jerk, they still have an objectively poor selection here. It is, in fact, not a serious hardware store.
