I live on the island and would love to use and recommend Crest Hardware, but I cannot. Their customer service is terrible. One time I was in to look for a nut and bolt to replace a part. I was simply pointed in the direction of the hardware. I showed them the broken parts I had and if what I found was the best match they had. I was told if that was all I found that was all they had. When I went to Lowes, the big store that is not supposed to have I had an extremely helpful and knowledgeable associate lead me to their inventory, and picked out a perfect replacement for me. I gave Crest Hardware another chance, and bought a clothes line from them. It was named "clothes line" on the package. I hung the line and in just a few short weeks it had snapped. I reattached it and a week later it snapped again. Yesterday it had snapped again so I took a portion down and could break it easily in my hands. So I took the portion to Crest hardware believing that they would replace it. NO SUCH CUSTOMER SERVICE FROM THEM!!! First I was questioned as to why I did not bring the entire line. Then told that they had never had a problem with the lines from any other customers. I continued to show the representative how it broke easily in my hands. I was told that without packaging, she could do nothing. I pointed out how I knew exactly where they stocked them and that I had no reason to keep packaging for a rope. Another representative came from the back of the store. He pulled on the rope and it did not break. I took it back and easily broke 6 inch lengths off repeatedly. He read the packaging for the line on the shelf and said it only was 18 pound line and that i was putting more than 18 pounds to break it. I laughed. He said, "You are going to make a big deal out of a $5 rope?" I said, "You are going to lose a customer over a $5 rope?" His lack of response was all that was needed. NEVER go to this store. They do not care and are no help!

Super small place- I always think to myself, "I know they arent going to have X, but before I give my cash to the big-box, lemme check." Im always wrong too- they have X! If you walk in with a question, expect help. If you walk in with your kid, expect them to be real sweet and ask if he/she want to give Holly the dog a treat. If you walk in without a shirt, expect to be harassed. About the only thing Im disappointed with is the selection of stainless hardware; They have enough to get you by, but if you want an oddball stainless doohickey, try Seashore Ace up in Stone Harbor.
