I had my truck worked on and inspected at Pep boys the day before I took it to Rayco. Pep boys had to redo a worn out bearing, that they replaced 6 months prior, I had them change the rear brakes and if need be replace one of the calipers, that I knew was seized. I also had an oil change done while they had the truck. They told me they cleaned the posts and that it didnt need to be replaced, so I thought great, until later that day I had to drive to Lakewood, and the rear brakes were SMOKING. I took it back to Pep boys, and they told me I would have to have it replaced, which I told them in the first place. I also had Pep boys check the front suspension because I heard a noise every time I hit the uneven driveway by my house. They found NOTHING, and told me it was fine. The next day I went to Rayco for just an exhaust leak, they fixed that in about 15 mins, then I had them take a look at my brakes that Pep boys screwed up, they replaced the caliper, using better parts than Pep boys and replaced all my brake fluid. When the work was done they took it off the lift drove it 15 feet and my drivers side upper control arm bushing broke and the tire was just hanging there. They replaced it right there on the spot and reinspected my front end, they found several worn parts, that needed to be replaced. They were replaced that same day. If that bushing wouldve broken on Rt 35 someone could have died. I have 2 children, that regularly ride with me. We wouldve been dead or at least had a smashed up truck. When I went back to Pep boys to tell them they didnt check my front end, they told me they did and that everything was fine, that they didnt find anything wrong, and would not reimburse me the cost of the inspection. Then about 6 months later, I took my truck to a ford dealer to get the oil changed and they told me my oil drain plug was stripped, and rounded off and that Id have to replace the oil pan. I took the truck to Pep boys in Howell because it was close to my new house, and I had a $25 gift card. I told them that Pep boys in ocean did the last oil change. They confirmed that Ocean was the last one to do the oil change, and charged me 1/2 price for it. Lesson learned, Ill never give Pep boys another red cent and will only take any and all of my vehicles to Jake at Rayco.

The bad thing I find with reviews is people mostly only write them when they have had a bad experience, which is something I can be faulted of as well, but after a string of extraordinary experiences with Pep Boys, I decided to share a good review. I have been going back to Pep Boys for a couple years following a fender bender I had when I stopped at the Eatontown, NJ location to get a hitch removed from my car that was bent down and would occasionally bottom out. While working on the car they told me my tires needed rotated which I agreed to. When checking out, they said that removing the hitch was a simple job and at no charge. They also said that the tire rotation was free when you sign for a rewards card... I walked out not paying a cent and have been a customer ever since. I usually go to the Oakhurst NJ location because it is closer to me and I have had several similarly great experiences with them; in fact, today I had another which prompted this review. I went in and bought a new battery ($140 out the door). I didnt remember when or where I bought the old one but the sales rep (Mark) told me to bring in the battery for the core charge and he could tell if it was bought from them. It turned out that it was bought from a Pep Boys and he was able to work it out for a full replacement at no cost to me, even though I didnt have any documentation or proof, and I was refunded the entire purchase price. It is not common to have someone go so far out of their way to help you out especially when you are not mad or yelling at them (I figured it was my fault for not keeping better records) but Mark did and he spent a lot of time working with me to get this done. I would highly recommend Pep Boys in Oakhurst (ask for Mark) or Pep Boys in Eatontown.

Came here on a Sunday for the get the buy 3 get 1 free tire deal. Showed up at around 1230 PM. Told the red headed woman twice that I have special paint on my rims and to tell the men in the garage to be careful. I also reminded her twice that I wanted to save one of the tires as a spare. Ok. 530 rolls around, no one has called me on an update with my car and theyre only open until 6. I show up, my car sitting there and keys on the counter. No one even bothered to call me.. Are you serious? Then I ask the assistant manager if the spare I asked to be held onto was in the trunk. "No, the guy in the garage just threw out all the tires in the dumpster but maybe we can find it for you" are you joking? ... he finds it then I get up to the register. Woman at register fails to take off the 1 free tire and charges me for 4. HA! Manager comes over and handles the issue. I come home and notice all the special paint on my rims are scratched and ripped and completely ruined. Thanks pep boys, youre a complete joke and have the worst customer service Ive ever experienced. Please, save yourself the horror, dont come here.

I wish I could give them zero stars. They are the worst!! I took my car there to get my tires replaced, and when I picked it up, there was a giant hole in my window. They are refusing to accept responsibility,. I have a pic of my car being brought in WITH NO HOLE IN THE WINDOW SO I KNOW IT HAPPENED ON THEIR PROPERTY. I filed a police report and everytime the detective tries to contact them, they say the manager will call him back, and he never does. They refuse to release their video footage. I have filed a complaint with the BBB, and at first they lied and said it was there when I dropped my car off and they made a note of it; but when I picked my car up, I asked did they keep record of any damage that was on the vehicle when brought in and they said that is not their policy. I have sent my response to their lies to the BBB, along with the pics, and they are not responding to the BBB either now. They suck!!!! I truly dont understand how they have an A+ bbb rating.

Very rude, unprofessional staff. I had my car battery replaced here last year. The battery was around $80.00 and they charged an installation fee as well, bringing the total to around $100. I had a coupon for $20 off any battery when purchased and installed at a Pep Boys store. When I presented the coupon they refused to honor it saying that I needed to purchase the battery at the stores register first, then bring it to the service counter for them to use on my car... what a joke. I asked for a manager and he told me I should have presented the coupon before the transaction and that they were not going to honor the coupon. It did NOT say any of this on the coupon, it just said "when purchased at a Pep Boys locatoin"-- I DID THIS. Because of that, Ive had thousands of dollars worth of service done at OTHER shops because I will not support a BS business like this. I hope the $20 was worth it to them.
