Maiden Voyage was the first and only place I visited when looking for wedding dresses. The dress I picked was either the fourth or fifth dress I tried on. As soon as I arrived at the store I was greeted and felt very welcomed. The consultant that I met with, who unfortunately no longer works there, was very helpful. I had no idea what I was doing. She sat me down and asked me what I was and was not looking for in a dress and then she asked me what my budget was. She went and picked out possible dresses for me and also allowed family members to pick dresses out. I was having a great experience until I picked the dress I wanted and another lady came in, who I have been told is possibly the owner of the store, to take my measurements. She measured my hips and waist properly; however, my bust measurement, according to her, was 2 inches over what I had measured before I went. I knew that my dress would be too big when it came in. It took 6 months for the dress to come in, which was fine because I began looking for dresses 11 months before my wedding, but when it came in and I went to try it on, it was way too big. I had lost 5lbs from the time it was ordered until the time it came in, but 5lbs should not make that much of a difference. I went back in for my first fitting about a month ago and at that time my weight loss was about 13lbs. The dress had to be taken in 4 inches on the bust! I was angry because 1. Before I even lost weight I knew I was measured wrong and 2. I am now spending $500, yes $500 on alterations. Ridiculous. I truly feel that the person who measured me purposely measured me too big in an attempt to get more money out of me. I already spent $1400 on this dress and with alterations Im almost to the $2,000 mark. The service at the store is great and the seamstress, after taking the dress in, really made my dress look good. If you go to Maiden Voyage and you plan on buying your dress there, take your measurements beforehand and if their measurements are off from yours, be firm with them. Take the tape measure and measure yourself and show them how off they are. My regular clothing size is a 10. Im in good shape and just wanted to tone up a little bit before the wedding. Im by no means a plus size, yet they ordered me a 16W! Ive never worn a womans size and yes, bridal dresses are different, but after the first set of alterations was completed I was advised that the dress was re-constructed into a 12. Thats a big difference and a lot of money to spend on alterations. My other complaint is that the same woman that measured me came into the room during my first fitting and kept telling the seamstress that I needed to buy a bra for the dress. The seamstress kept saying, "no, she does not need one." Its a corset back and theres a bra built into the dress, yet this lady (the alleged owner) kept saying otherwise. It was not until the seamstress barked back at her that I did not need a bra that she finally left the room. I guess she was trying to plug another sale. Honestly, everyone else there is wonderful. I love my dress, the streamstress has done a great job so far. I go back in 2 weeks for the final fitting and cant wait to take my dress home. My only true complaint is this woman that took my measurements wrong and is trying to make me buy extras that I dont need. I still recommend Maiden Voyage, but watch out for this lady and be firm with her. No matter where you go to look at dresses, take your measurements beforehand so you yourself what size will need to be ordered.

This vendor was not a total disaster, only because I was given the option of purchasing a sample dress for 50% of the price of a new dress and I ABSOLUTELY...LOVE...MY...DRESS. To begin, they are pushy and confrontational and I would never recommend their sales staff to anyone. I was pushed into putting a deposit on the dress I wanted even though the price was too high. So after speaking with the owner, I was allowed to purchase their sample dress (she said she would clean it and fix any of the beading that stood out) for 50% off of the price I would be paying for a new dress. It was a deal too good to be true. The problems didnt end there however. When I went in a few months later for my first fitting, I met their seamstress. She is a disaster to work with. She wont speak directly to the bride. She speaks to anyone else in the room and acts as though you arent there. She told me I needed a slip under my dress (its a fit and flare, meaning fits snugly and cant have a slip under) and when I protested she brought me back a big poufy slip to put on. The one thing Id said before she left was that I do NOT want a lot of volume under the dress. Then, she chastised me several times during the fitting for the undergarments Id brought in. Despite having asked them what type I needed prior to the fitting. It was a nightmare, truly. Luckily the owner of the shop came in to my rescue and set the seamstress straight a few times. That wasnt the end of the problems though. When I went for my final fitting (where I was told Id take the dress home) they hadnt completed the alterations, so I needed to go back a 3rd time. The last visit was the day before the wedding. Id scheduled my fitting at 1 and my rehearsal at 4. When I arrived at 1pm for my fitting the owner told me that I was scheduled for 4pm and that my dress "wasnt ready". When I said there must be a mistake, she showed me their internal schedule to prove to me I was at fault. Talk about great customer service!! I finally got her to agree to quit the blame game and let me come back at 2pm for the fitting. When I got back there for the fitting, she told me that they usually just package up the dress and dont let the bride try it on. I had to insist that I wanted to try it on to make sure it fit correctly as I hadnt had on the finished dress yet. So, as she helped me into the dress she said, "Wow, gained a few pounds since the last fitting, havent you?" After all the other craziness that was going on, I definitely did NOT need that comment. I would DEFINITELY take my business elsewhere if I were you. You do not need the headaches that you will surely get by choosing this store. Its only redeeming value was that I was able to purchase my dress from them.

I cant say enough about Maiden Voyage, as well as my consultant Kristine! I had visited the store with my Maid of Honor a couple of months ago and made an impromptu appointment; Kristine was able to see me right away, which was super helpful. I tried on a few dresses (including "the one") but didnt make a decision right then, as I wanted to make sure I had my mom and future Mother and Sister-in-Law with me, too. I returned two months later, and Kristine remembered everything: from the little details about my personal life to the style of gowns I loved the most (she even had the dress that I was considering the strongest pulled and waiting for me in our own private fitting room.) Like the first time I visited, she allowed us to pull dresses for ourselves, while she pulled some based on the style I liked and what she thought I would look good in. I had visited another Bridal Boutique earlier that day, and the experience was night and day. Im a wedding coordinator, so its not like I went in not knowing what to expect, but my consultant at the previous shop was so unhelpful and borderline rude; she rushed the ladies I was with and myself out of the door after our 1 hour appointment was over (despite the fact that because of the consultant and the store, I didnt even get to start trying dresses on until 30 minutes into my appointment!) This was not at all the case with Kristine and Maiden Voyage: she took time to listen to what I wanted, what I liked, and let me know that she wasnt about to rush us out if we went over our scheduled appointment. In short, she understood the thought process going through every brides head and knew that seeing yourself in a couple of dresses for under 30 seconds each is NOT how you decide on your dress (or make a sell, for that matter!) Not only that but she even played around with the lighting in the room, so that we could see how all the detailing on the dress would look during our evening reception AND they were willing to work with us to secure the dress I had fallen in love with. Im so looking forward to working with Kristine and Maiden Voyage throughout my engagement period, and I would highly suggest that other brides do the same! You wont be disappointed!
