I was completely disappointed with this place! My boyfriend and I live 12 hours apart and have met several times in Kansas City since its the half way mark for us both. After much research and reading reviews, we decided on Purgatory to get a piercing. According to their website, their hours are Monday-Saturday 9am-5pm. We got there around 11:30am on Monday to find out that they were closed. My boyfriend and I were looking up info on other tattoo shops in the area and were only in their parking lot for a few minutes. A red truck with the shops name on it pulled up (Assume it was the owner). He approached our vehicle with a pipe/rod in his hand and told us we were in a private lot. We told him why we were there and he got attitude with us, stating they havent been open on a Monday in 15 years. I could understand if it was late at night and we were loitering or if he had asked us to leave prior and we did not leave..... But to approach us with a pipe in his hand like he was ready to beat the crap out of someone was completely uncalled for!!!! And to have attitude with us for no reason was extremely unprofessional. If they havent been open on Mondays for 15 years you would think they could at least update their website!

im a senior citizen who moved to independence not long ago after living in los angeles for some 30 years. i had about 7 tats done in last 2-3 years in/around l.a./san fernando valley. Not one of those artists comes close to the creative ability and delicate touch that JASON has!!! i can say truthfully, prices are almost half of what i paid in l.a. and the work is better!! jasons done 4 tats on my head, 1 on my neck and 1 on my back. i get compliments on them all the time!! I would recommend any of the artists @Purgatory(ive seen them at work!!)for beginners or folks seeking major work...i cant praise this tattoo shop enough; the guys are ALL friendly, sociable and most importantly, KNOWLEDGEABLE!! of course, since JASON has done all my work in the last 4-5 months, im biased in his favor.....do yourself a favor and check this place out BEFORE going anywhere else....April, 2009 Noah Y.

Absolutely LOVE Purgatory Tattoos! I just had my second tattoo done there, Toby did this last one that started at my shoulder and went down my arm. He was extremely careful to make sure it was what I wanted and had some GREAT ideas! I will be going back to have him touch up some older tattoos soon! Chris also did my sons tattoo who was in town on leave from the Navy and also my fiancés tattoo. Once again, never disappointed. My son will be flying back into KC from Seattle the end of March and already has plans to visit for Purgatory for another tattoo. Professionalism and Cleanliness of the shop outstanding. We are forever Purgatory Customers!!!

I have gotten three piercings from here. And I love them. I got my tongue, monroe, and conch done here. The guys are fun and nice. The place is nice and very clean. Very inexpensive for piercings ($20 for 1, $30 for 2, $40 for 3, and just add $10 for each additional peircing), didnt ask about tattoos because I typically go to Shae from Freaks on 39th for all my ink. It seems to me that I healed faster than the average time for a certain type of piercing, which may be just my genetics, but cleanliness and quickness of piercing also has to do with this. VERY HAPPY!

I came in to get a tattoo on my arm. Coming to Purgatory was a great decision. The staff were friendly and welcoming, the establishment was professional and laid back, and extremely clean. Jason was my tattoo artist and he did a phenomenal job. He came up with a beautiful design for my tattoo and made sure I was comfortable. Hes definitely going to be my tattoo artist for my future tats and I highly recommend this place ^_^

Ive been there twice now Ive had 2 tattoos and 1 piercing! I absolutely love the way the shop is set up ! Such a kick ass environment to be in ... Jason did my second tattoo and he did excellent! Was fast gave me personal opinion and suggestions just was an overall great experience. I definitely recommend this place ! I choose them over anybody in KC also they are very reasonable!

Ive had all my tattoos done here and I tell everyone this is the only place I will go to everrrrr! All the guys that work at the shop are amazing artists and you cant go wrong with any of them. Ive had them free hand on me and Ive had a cover up and they all are flawless!! Go here only!!!!!

I have had 7 of 8 tats done with these guys and 2 piercings and love the work the guys do. Going to bring in new customers in a week. Prices are great and the work is excellent. Place is clean and friendly. See ya soon guys. Wouldnt go anywhere else.
