We had a terrible experience here just today. We live near the establishment. In fact, our properties share an alley. My husband (poor, kind fool) agreed to collect money for the block for the alley plowing. It is a pretty thankless job. The residential folks are wonderful and pay on time. The businesses are spotty-- some are wonderfully punctual with payment, others a bit less reliable, but only ONE actually tells you to go to hell in front of children. The Spectacle Shoppe. My husband stopped in for the third time to follow up on whether the owner would be able to pony up $25 to pay their fair share to access the alley in winter. On his first visit, he left a flyer explaining the cost breakdown. Five weeks ago, he stopped in again and explained who he was and the owner told him ok but would not commit to whether he would contribute. If youve ever been in charge of collecting cash, you know the pain is in the follow up. Anyway, he stopped in a third time today and the owner told him they were too busy. (There were two people in the shop.) My husband is in sales, so this wasnt his first rodeo. He agreed to wait. The customers left. The owner said they would need to get back to him and Sean said he would just appreciate a verbal because doubling back repeatedly is a hassle. The guy blew his lid. Meanwhile, a family with two kids had entered. He actually told my husband to "Go to hell." Over $25. Classy. I wouldnt work with them for any price.

Mr. Matt McDonough, the owner of Grand Spectacle, was both helpful and charming when I first selected and paid for my new eye glasses and magnetic sunglasses, but when I brought the sunglasses in because the right lens detached from the metal nose bridge, there was a dramatic change in his demeanor. I was treated very curtly—lots of eye-rolling and a tone of voice that made it VERY clear I was a bother. I took the sunglasses back twice. The “repair” each time lasted a matter of weeks. The third time I asked that he replace the sunglasses, since it was clear the "fix" wasnt working. Mr. McDonough told me he would replace the sunglasses and I could pick them up the next day. When I returned the next day to pick them up, Mr. McDonoughs son, Kyle, waited on me. The sunglasses he gave me were the same ones I’d left the day before. When I asked him, point blank, if the sunglasses he gave me were truly new or just my old ones "fixed" for a third time, he did his best to finesse the answer, but ultimately did acknowledge that they were not new. (It was evident on inspection, that the right lens had simply been reattached.) I found my dealings with Grand Spectacle both unpleasant and unprofessional. I expected better of a “high end” eyewear store. Lesson learned. I’ll head back to Costco for my next pair where I have always been treated well and the store stands behind its product.

I recently had an eye exam and then new eyewear made at Grand Spectacle. First, I am extremely impressed with the thoroughness of the eye exam that I received from Dr. Wellnitz and the computer-assisted technology that he used to determine my optimal distance and reading corrections, as well as his thorough exam of the interior of my eyes. Secondly, the quality of the frames that they sell and the quality of the lens that they make are absolutely the best. The frames I picked out are virtually indestructible and the progressive lenses that they made are wonderful; there is absolutely no distortion or changes in focusing when I go from reading to viewing my computer screen to distance vision, everything is seamless and crystal clear. I strongly believe that you get what you pay for and high quality eyewear will be far more comfortable and cost effective in the long run. Previous eyewear products that Ive gotten from here have lasted five or six years or more without breaking, oftentimes I keep the same frames and just have new lenses made. The quality of the service from the opticians and the overall value cant be beat.

I was disappointed. I felt I was being condescended to multiple times, except when I paid my bill. The thing that made me most angry was when I asked about ordering online I was told they would not "talk to their machines" and that I would have to fax my prescription in. As far as I know being called to confirm a prescription is standard practice and its part of what I pay for (in this case excessively). I asked for a contact lens exam, which was pricey enough, and was charged separately for Tonometry without being told beforehand. $224 for the two exams (before tax). The exam was very thorough, however, but the place seems a bit snobby and over-priced. I appreciate the experience and detailed exam, but it was not worth what I paid and the condescension and I will not be returning.

I have found my new "go to" place for my prescription eye wear. I am so impressed with the depth of knowledge by the staff around vision, technology and their products. In a very short amount of time I was able to determine what features in my lenses were important to me as well as feeling very informed on the "corner cutting" I always attempt to do to save the most money and get the most value. I have the best quality lenses I have ever experienced from Grand Spectacle. Every promise explained to me was delivered on. My vision is crucial to me and I will pay more for expertise, confidence and quality because I end up with what I want instead of what I can get saving only a few bucks. I will return to Grand Spectacle as long as I live here and recommend them to everyone.

I have very mixed feelings about this business. The product quality is great, my exams have always been very good as well. Over the weekend, the river ate my $800. + glasses and I am trying to replace them at a lower cost. I called to ask for a simple measurement that is in their records. Was told it would be $50. to have this information. I feel this is poor customer service and will look elsewhere for my eye care needs. My review is 5 star for some and - stars for the refusal to tell me my distance between pupils. (Target Optical will do the measurement at no cost and Im not even a client)

I would give them 0 stars if it was possible. Possibly one of the worst experiences of my life -- and I was dealing with the owner! Not only was he unprofessional -- he was downright rude! Had to return a non-prescription item -- which I was told I could do within 7 days. Went back after only two days -- and they refused to allow me to return the item! Had my receipt and had paid cash. Theyre considering if/how they intend to refund me. Since it was less than $50 -- not worth taking them to court. Owner is a jerk. Buyer beware!

I looked all over the TC for contemporary, stylish, unique frames, and finally found Grand Spectacle to be the best. The environment/house where their business is lends itself to laid-back, non-pushy service. They know what theyre doing, and will help if called upon, and will give an opinion if asked. Prices are high, but the artistic, European frames can demand such. Find a better choice of up-to-date style anywhere, and let us know. Otherwise, go to Grand Spectacle. (A new, very satisfied, and happy-to-say-so customer.) RB
