I recently ordered a bicycle for my son online and had it shipped to the store. Early on a Wednesday afternoon, I received an email saying it was ready to pick up. Wednesday evening, at approximately 8:30pm, I arrived at REI Maple Grove to pick up the bicycle, and I was told it was no ready. Apparently their inventory/logistics center treats their bicycles the same as all of the other merchandise. Heres where things start going a bit wrong. I was told that there is something at the bottom of my email that states I am supposed to call to see if it was ready to pick up. There was nothing like this in the email. I asked when the bike would be ready to pick up. The gentleman said, "I dont know. Monday?" I called REI tonight (Tuesday) to see if the bike was ready to pick up. I was transferred to the bike shop, and was put on hold again so they could check on it. A couple of minutes later, someone from the front picks up and tells me it is not ready to pick up. She also couldnt tell me when it would be ready. Frustrated, I made the trip to REI. I figured I was going to either leave with a bike or my money back. Honestly, I was expecting the latter. Once I arrived, I told the gentleman at the bike shop I was here to pick up my bike. A moment later, hes pulling it down from the rack and Im filling out paper work. One caveat to this, is the bike shop did try to call us to let us know it was ready, but we recently cut the cord on our home phone. But, why when I call would you tell me its not ready? I would much rather make the trip to Bloomington than go back to this store.

I had never visited an REI location before, as I prefer to shop small, local sporting goods shops. I wandered around the cross-country ski area for about 10 minutes and was never greeted or asked if I needed assistance. I did have a question about a pair of skis. (I should note that no area of the store had any more than 3-4 customers in it.) I did a lap around the store and was finally greeted by a sales associate when I made it around to womens. I had stopped in camping and footwear. She was only interested in telling me about a program where I could pay $20 and become a member and get certain deals. Before I walked away she handed me a card with the program info and her name, to turn in at the check out if I decided to join. I then made it back to the ski area. Wandered and looked very interested for another 5 minutes. Still no one came to assist me even though I saw at least three associates in the general area. Finally I walked up to two associates who were having a conversation. Instead of greeting me, they continued their conversation. Once finished with their conversation, one asked if I needed anything. I asked if they had a certain ski in stock. He had never heard of it, but offered to look online. I, myself have already located a place to buy them online. Overall, a very frustrating trip. Terrible customer service. The one item I had considered purchasing because it was on sale, I put back. Ill pay full price at some place that appreciates their customers. I will not be returning to a REI for any other outdoor needs.

I ordered a Yakima Skybox 17days ago. I still have not received it. I made roughly 20 phone calls and spent hours on the phone over past couple weeks with Customer Service and local, Maple Grove, MN store. I received a lot of conflicting and simply erroneous information. My first order was a shipping mistake that ended up somewhere else in the U.S. Then my ordered was cancelled and replaced with a display model. After I declined a demo model REI placed another order. 3 days after the date my box was supposed to be ready for pick up I called to inquire about the status, only to find out that neither store nor customer service knows where my box is or when it will arrive. The store offered to order the box for the third time. 1 hour on the phone later I was told that it should arrive today.... but I heard that twice already. If you order from REI get ready for a LOT OF AGGRAVATION, multiple PHONE CALLS and a LONG, LONG WAIT for something you can get within couple days from majority of large retailers. If you value your time, CONSIDER all OTHER ALTERNATIVES.

i have bought quite a bit over the years, the sales people are good saleman or women. they know there products. the first time i needed them to stand behind something it was not good. from what i understand if you buy a novaris from them they will bend over backwards with their satifaction garrentee but with the scott it is just a tune up and they can not find the problem. O.K. i got the bike fixed. what i found after buying the tools and tuning the bike myself is that the bike does seem to be a high quality bike but the problems were all in the gearing setup and the brakes. when i got the bike back the rear tire would rotate about 3 revs after letting go. i thought it was a hub problem. turned out to be just setup. the products are good but if you are going to pay for a tune up, find a better bike shop to work on your bike.

The people here are extremely helpful and friendly and Ive never felt pressured to buy anything. I was there last weekend and the first sales person spent at least 20 minutes helping me find a replacement buckle for a buckle that broke on my pack. The second sales person that I worked with helped me compare and look at hiking boots. He asked a lot of questions about my hiking experiences and helped figure out what I needed in hiking boots, and even explained why I probably didnt need to spend a ton on them. Ive been to this store several times now and Ill definitely be back again.

Do NOT rent tents here! The concept is great and they have good tents but the price is WAY to high. For a decent sized tent for 2 day/night rental it was going to cost $80 at least! For $80 bucks I went down the road to Dicks and bought a bigger tent than the one I was going to rent. I cannot speak about the rest of the shop, but if you are looking to go camping and decided to rent a tent, DONT. Just go buy one from Dicks.... Also REI prices for buying tents seemed pretty high as well. Did a google search and they were very overpriced.

REI stands for Rude Employees Incorporated! The people at the Maple Grove REI are not only inconsiderate but clueless! These idiots dont know the difference between hiking boots & ski boots or a road bike & a mountain bike! I highly advise you to stay away from these idiots! Your going to pay way more then you should & be treated like scum. There are many more reputable, helpful and friendly, not to mention much more affordable sporting goods stores to go to, stay away from the maple grove REI!

Probably talked with a team member for about 45 mintues about roof racks vs trailer hitch bike storage options. So helpful and steered us in the right direction. Not the direction of the most expensive item or what they necessarily had in store. I was very happy after going there. Been a member for only about 4 years. Well worth it and every year I get a dividend back that more that pays for the 1 time fee to join. Youre an idiot not to become a member if you shop here even twice a year.
