I recently purchased a 20 florescent light fixture for my aquarium from Petco, and upon opening the packaging discovered that the fixture did not work, and had obviously been used in an aquarium for some time. (Hard water deposits were on the exterior of the device, along with water stains on the instructions.) I promptly went back to Petco (Same day as purchase.) with my receipt to return the product, but the manager on duty would not accept the lighting fixture, as, "The manufacturer would never factory seal a used product". I explained to him in a very clear, and friendly way that this was the original condition of the product as when I received it, and even offered to show him pictures of my current aquarium setup, where I use a much larger boxy looking Incandescent lighting fixture.... In return he called me a liar and accused me of trying to steal from him by placing a used product in the box and trying to return it for money. Eventually he allowed the return of my money, but only after harrassing me for over 20 minutes. There are several other complaints on their website about similar instances of a product being re-packaged and advertised as "new". I have bought many products / fish from this location before and have had no problems. However, I will no longer be bringing my business to this location, or any other petco for that matter. If I could rate this location lower than a one star I would. There are several other aquarium shops in the GR area (The Blue aquarium on Wilson, Petsmart grandville, Petsmart 28th st. ect.) that are much friendlier.

Everytime i have been to this spicific location the staff has been more then wonderfeul!! My dog is a 100 sum odd pound dog and very hairy and comes out looking amazing EVERYTIME!! My dog is family so I am very picky about who I let care for him and I have only let this location groom him so far ....oh and I seen a bad comment about there staff as far as when you call in ...I actually JUST got off the phone with the gromming department with a few simple questions and she was sweet and very helpful!! Overall I like this place alot and dont see myself taking our doggy anywhere else =) Oh and they were right on time as far as appoinments each time, drop off and pick up..and they gave a courtesy call if I was not there already...The staff in the actual store are awesome as well =) so sweet and hand out treats to the dogs , or at least they did to ours =)

I went to petco to buy a bearded Dragon. Ive always had good tempers out of the little guys, we have another about the same age that we bought from vi:pets on Plainfield, he has a great temper, loves being handled and you can tell they give their animals plenty of love and attention. Our petco Dragon however is a complete opposite, shes skittish as hell and doesnt enjoy human contact or interaction of any kind really, always nervous skittish or aggressive, similar to their wild counterparts. After recalling my visit I saw only one store associate tending to any animal in the store and it was fish. I wouldnt recommend buying reptiles from their store unless you enjoy owning an animal you cant really handle, reptiles need daily interaction to avoid this type of disposition. Moral of the story: Go to a small pet store, dont make the same mistake I did.

I went into the store looking for treats and a few other items for the puppy I will be getting in a couple days. An associate (I believe her name is Olivia) greeted me and I asked her if she had recommendations for a natural training treat. She was more than helpful and gave me a few to choose from, telling me why she liked them and what her own dog likes. She also explained the return policy on food and treats, which was super helpful because I would not have thought I could take them back if the puppy doesnt like them. She ran and grabbed me a new pet parent coupon book so I saved 50% off the treats I was buying. So thankful for her kindness and assistance- I would have been standing there for an hour trying to figure out what to buy!

They have a HUGE array of everything for just about any pet. The only downside is that the staff isnt as friendly as they could be. Additionally, I was followed around like I had stolen something, which I didnt appreciate. I felt like screaming, "I PUT IT BACK ON THE SHELF". I have two dogs and they only had one muzzle in stock. I also asked about their return policy for doggie diapers because Ive had a horrible time fitting them (chihuahuas) and no one could give me a straight answer. While their prices and selection are some of the best, their unfriendly and untrained staff could use an upgrade.

Usually when I enter the store there is no employees in sight. Was trying to size a collar for my puppy the other day and was being watched like a hawk by 2 employees while standing next to a cart full of food, toys and treats that I was obviously planning on purchasing like I was going to steal a $10 collar and buy at least $50 worth of other product. Im sorry I may "look" mischievious with all my tattoos and piercings and the way my hair and make up is, but I assure you, I am as honest as the person walking in with the suit and tie, and you have lost a loyal customer for this judgment.

Their staff are completely uneducated and un knowledgeable, they lied to me and mis informed me sever times they let a friend of mind walk out with five gold fish and one bowl with the wrong food. They told me my gold fish could cooperate with a sucker fish and then to my trama I watched my goldfish eat him, then misinformed me on bubblers and tank filters giving me the wrong sizes waisting over 100$ All I have to say is do not expect anyone at petco to know anything they are all just regular people working minimum wage

They never have feeder rats in stock. The small reptiles they sell seem to have parasites or die sooner than other pet stores. There is often expired or close to expired food on the shelf is not popular. The meal worm and super worms are often dead and stink. Staff not always knowledgeable in pets or products they sell. They do not sell refills for the products they carry at Christmas time like Petit Cat grass refills. Focused on dogs: food, toys, grooming shop, training classes.

Well, the products are good. If youre looking to buy a cage or food, I reccomended. The thing I dont reccomend is the pets. I got two hamsters from a lady who bought them from an different shop, and they lasted about their whole life. I got two earlier this year, and they died within the first week. Also, the first one of the two already had wet tail and therefor died. As for rats and mice, theres about 20-30 in each cage. I dont reccomend getting hamsters or mice.

We had a grooming appt for our dog. When we were signing her in we watched a groomer use their high velocity dryer on a small dog and it was TERRIFIED. We asked about it and the person checking us in said if the dog is scared they turn it down or wont use it. When we asked why that groomer didnt stop when that dog was terrified they didnt have an explanation. We left. After seeing how they treated that other dog, we werent going to leave ours there.
