I absolutely love the Alternative Market! As some of the reviewers have said, its a bit of a small shop, but its a store full of wonderful surprises if you take the time to look around. The Alt Mart has a good variety of vegan and gluten free foods, fresh miso pastes, a great selection of dried herbs and grains, and they also carry select fresh produce in the summer (all grown by local farmers). And there so much, much more! Their products are reasonably priced, and the owners make great recommendations and are really interesting people to chat with. This is such a great shop to have so close by (Im only a few blocks away), and I have discovered so many wonderful foods by making quick pop-ins at this store.

Small store, and like most small health food stores it doesnt have the selection that the Food Hole has, but its close to my home, locally owned, and the owner is super nice, in contrast with the union busting libertarian who is the founder/CEO of the large corporate chain of health food supermarkets. If they dont carry what you want shes willing to order it for you, although if its not something she thinks she will be able to move off her shelves you may have to buy the minimum amount her wholesaler sells. Bottom line: a great place to get many items and you can special order stuff that you go through a lot of. Check it out!

A new shopper to this store. This is a very small but fairly well supplied market. They have a limited selection of many products. Which means you can usually find what your looking , but maybe not always favorite brand. Overall I find the staff very helpful, and maybe a little chatty but I LIKE that friendly non-robotic atmosphere. If its not in stock they can usually tell you when its coming in. Also, I am firm believer in supporting local small business so If the choice is them or a large chain they get my dime.

Small store, nice selection of organic grains. For my use, I shop here for low protein soft wheat berries. Not may places carry this, but they do - at a reasonable price. Friendly staff, and the owner offered to make sure that this particular grain will be stocked. Not many places would offer that type of service.

I enjoy this store and come here whenever I am in the area. They have products I cannot find elsewhere. Plus we have a great shared laugh about how to pronounce kefir. Parking is hard. No bike rack that Ive seen. Served by a bus line.

Lots of comments that its a small store, personally I think its just the right size! The selection of herbs and spices is amazing, better than larger stores and you get to determine the quantity which is great.

Great selection of products and the owner is always willing to bring in new stock if you suggest items. Love the local connection of using local products like honey and the support and ties into the community.

I went to this market, to ask about Valerian root. It was $13.95 for a liquid vial, i got it for $10. Im going there this weekend to buy Kava root to help me relax. They help out a lot. Go to them!
