This place is fantastic, and very affordable. I have a very high prescription and need thin lenses (1.74 hi-index). Much to my surprise, the price varies dramatically around Cambridge. For example, the lenses (without frames) cost: $150 at 2-4-1 Optical, $300 at International Optical, $320 at Eye Q Optical, $349 at Harvard Sq Eye Care, $399 at Parrelli Optical, and $550 at Pearle Vision. So, as you can see, 2-4-1 beats the competition by far (they even gave me a further discount over the $150, because I did not need the extra pair of free glasses that they always give). Of course, it could be that they do not use the same brand lenses. I know, for example, that "For Eyes Optical" in Harvard Sq often uses Nikon lenses. And I imagine that 2-4-1 does not (although I did not ask). But for me, I would rather save a few hundred dollars -- especially given that I do not notice any difference between the quality of these lenses, and those of my last pair, which were much more expensive.

What I found most amazing about 241 is that the prices listed on the frames INCLUDED the cost of the lenses - no nickle-and-diming you, no hidden costs like Pearl Vision or Lenscrafters. Oh, and you get a free second pair, which was good because its hard to choose only 1 pair from their great selection of stylish, modern frames. Also, the customer service was great. I had no idea that the man behind the sales desk was the owner until I was paying. He was very unpretentious and helpful, in no way pushy - "Do you want anti-reflective coating?" "No." "Ok." You can tell that he cares about each and every one of his customers. Ive purchased glasses once a year for over a decade now, and this is by far the best experience Ive had in terms of both price and customer service.

I had gone to 241 four years ago and loved it. Then, last year, I bought a pair of glasses from another optician in Harvard Square, as I had had an eye exam performed there, and my insurance gave a "discount" on frames. Big mistake. It turns out, even with the 40% insurance discount, you generally end up paying more for a single pair of glasses and lenses than you would at 241 (I hadnt price shopped as I was pressed for time). Plus, you wait a week to pick them up. I needed a new set of glasses this year, and went back to 241. The glasses were of fine quality, fairly priced (better than the 40% discount at the other shop), and were made and picked up within 3 hours. INCREDIBLE.

A very fun experience. He helped me find an inexpensive but really cute and up-to-date pair of glasses and the cost was great. He was very professional and well informed, and I felt completely personally attended to. He handled it all within an hour and I was able to wear my glasses home again. I would always come back to 2 for 1 Optical.

Ive been getting custom glasses made here for almost 10 years. In that time, I must have bought at least 12 different pairs, and have been thrilled with each and every one.

Changed my lenses for half of the price they were charging me in the other places in Cambridge. Owner is friendly and takes just 1h to change the lenses. Recommended!

Very kind shop, fixed my glasses (they were missing a screw) without charging even though I bought my glasses elsewhere
