Unfortunately, I live a block away from this Safeway and I am in and out for things multiple times a week, not by choice, but because I do not have a car. But this is by far the worst grocery store I have ever been to. First of all, the most annoying thing is that items that are on sale hardly ever ring up right in the machines. Secondly, produce items are hardly ever priced, or at least if they are, you have to search to find the prices. You also must make sure you are checking expiration dates and freshness of products. Fruit is often moldy. My most recent experience at this store was the following: 3 check out lanes were open I get into one line and the checker said he was closed, I went to the next and the checker pointed to the 15 items or fewer sign and the last check out stand that was open was also 15 items or fewer. The first guy who said he was closed directed me over to the self check out. I had a cart of groceries most of which were produce items, the last thing I wanted to do was to self check out a bunch of produce, isnt that what they pay the employees to do? While I am doing this the guy who closed his lane and directed me to the self check out sat there and watched me check out my own groceries for ten minutes. Last but not least I feel like the entire place is just filthy. I have been to other Safeways and they are fine, for some reason this one is an extremely poor representation of the Safeway chain. Sad.

Im astonished at the indifferent quality of this store. Is there no manager? Does the manager have no supervisor? Many, many items either had no price listings, or the price listings were somewhere else, or the cards were folded over, ripped, or unreadable. The produce quality was mediocre at best, with bruised and gashed apples. There were no regular cashier lines open, although there were two express lines. The produce quality was mediocre at best, with bruised and gashed apples, for example. They attempt to funnel you to the self-service lines. There was graffiti on the elevator. The cashier was nice and they had what I needed, but it was an unpleasant way to shop.

I have been going here once or twice a week for two years because its closest walkable grocery store. This Safeway has affordable groceries but lacks clear organization and, for the most part, has a not-so-friendly staff. Some items dont even have price tags, some produce is often nearing or past its shelf life. Its quite obvious that majority of the people hate working there and have low morale which, consistently and without fail, translates into rather poor customer service. I have had people talking on the phone or with their friends while trying to check out. Of course there are always a few good ones, but they dont stay long.

This grocery store was once a well established place to shop, its now has lost its 4 star rating, in my opinion, ever since they removed the self-Checkout registers. Now, if you have 15 items or less, you have to wait in a line thats holding 15 people or more. Sadly this is the only Safeway nearest my home. The next store near by is at the Wheaton Location. With better service, self-Checkout and 24hrs on their belt, the Safeway Wheaton Location has a much better layout than this location.

I love that this is so close to home but it seems like they randomly stop carrying products that are otherwise part of major brands they carry (for example: They have a TON of utz snack products, but have ceased carrying The Crab Chip). More importantly, they took out all of the self-checkouts but have made no effort to increase the number of active lanes - its a rare time that I am not 8 people deep in a line and spend 30+ minutes here, even just to get milk or laundry detergent.

The lines are always ridiculous long, its really hard to find anything, and they consistantly overcharge on sale items. When I asked the female manager about some items that I thought were on sale, she asked me if I could read. I have dyslexia, so yeah, sometimes its hard to figure out the tags. Several times I have had to go back to the shelves while checking out in order to take a picture of the price tag, so that the cashier would believe the price.

Although the store does well in certain respects, their recent decision to do away with self check-out has resulted in huge lines and bottlenecks. Buying two or three items for the evening used to take me about 5 minutes and now can take 30. You can forget about weekends unless you want to spend your whole morning or afternoon. I will stop going here entirely if they dont return the self check-out.

This location is constantly under staffed. You will be waiting in line for 20 plus minutes no matter the time of day you go. They run out of simple things like chicken patties, elbow noddles, and drumsticks. They didnt have cranberry sauce during Thanksgiving. If I didnt live across the street I would just go to Giant more often.

I have only had positive experiences at this Safeway. I go here for all of my grocery and pharmaceutical needs. The manager is very friendly and makes the wait in line more enjoyable. From my experiences, the pharmacy is the fastest in the area. I have switched my prescriptions to Safeway.

Horrible store. Lines are always long. Very few cashiers. Customer service is never available. Items are not always stocked. Stairwell to garage smells like someone urinated in it. Garage smell horrible also. They need to pressure wash it to get the garbage smell off the concrete.

Awful lamb and beef shawarma. I wanted platter they put sandwich on the plate. It is like a joke. I wanted rice with shawarma and rice was ok but not very good. The salad came with food was terrible. The meat had no taste. I left the food I could not even eat it.

This safeway is small and lacks selection in a lot of areas. The Giant down the street on East-West is a bit farther, but has way better selection, plus its generally cheaper. I only go here when I dont feel like walking to giant or paying for whole foods.

Store is small, so product selection can be limited. Ive had a cashier forget to scan my coupons--which makes it all the more aggravating that the self check-out lanes are often closed. Panhandlers often hang out on this block of Thayer.

Friendly, helpful staff. Watch the underground parking lot, as the spaces are TIGHT and there are a lot of things to bump into!!! Safeway removed their self-service aisles, and so there can be longer lines during rush times at checkout.

Long lines and dirty! A huge disappointment for this prominent location in downtown Silver Spring...it is a shame this place has not been revamped. Expired food and they are always out of products. I will not shop here anymore.

Dont buy produce or things that they process or package here. The produce always seems to go bad within 24 hours of buying it, and last time I shopped here I saw a mouse run under one of the produce cases.

I like Safeway a lot, but this one is not that great. They seem to have a sub-par selection in almost every aspect. We have started traveling the extra little distance to go to the one in Wheaton instead.
