I am very unhappy with the delivery process from value city. My boyfriend and I bought a sectional sofa from them. We were given a date of May 24th and a time frame from 1-3 to deliver the sofa. Because the delivery date was on a Wednesday I had to take half a day off work. When at the store they offered me a 30 min window phone call I took it so that I could leave work at the latest time that was possible. They also took my phone number down so that they wouldnt call my boyfriend who couldnt take the time off of work to be there. Around 12:30pm on the 24th my boyfriend calls me saying that they are already at the house. Where was the 30 min window I was told i was going to be given and the phone call to me NOT my boyfriend? So I rush out of work (something I didnt want to do hence the phone call I was told about!) So i get to my house and look at that no delivery driver anywhere!! So about 10 mins later here they come. I showed the guy where to put the sofa. After they set it up I went to the basement to look at it with them, only to find out they didnt bring the correct one! When I said that to the delivery man he said they must have put the wrong piece of the sectional sofa on there truck. Shouldnt you check that before you leave to make the deliverys? I know if I was being paid to do my job correctly I would check. So they said we need to call the store and have them bring out the correct piece. My boyfriend called and we had it set for Saturday the 27th between 1-3 (again). Come Saturday around 11:30 am someone is knocking on the front door. Oh look its the delivery people early again! So, because they were so early, we werent ready for them and had to rush to get ready. Unfortunately, the piece that we wanted did not fit down the steps. We can deal with that. So we call up value city and tell them because the piece we wanted didnt fit we want to get the chaise. They said thats fine we just need to order it. Boyfriend also addressed the issue of the time frames that they gave us and the wrong piece of furniture that they originally sent to us. All they could say about that was "that it wasnt our company its a hired company." REALLY!!!! So they set up another delivery date for June 6th, a Tuesday. They gave us the time of 1:30-3:30. Fine that works better for me for taking a half day (again!). So my boyfriend calls me at 12:17 saying that they are there! I can not leave work till 1 pm. So i have to leave work early and rush to get home (again). We finally have the correct furniture. I am VERY unhappy that I had to lose time and money from work to work around there schedule. I well never recommend Value City Furniture to anyone, and anytime anyone asks about where to get furniture from I will be more then happy to tell them NOT Value City.

I picked out a couch with a great floor attendant a few weeks ago; however, I just received a phone call from the attendant saying that my couch was being discontinued and is no longer in stock at the White Marsh warehouse. I was shocked because I thought that Id placed the couch on layaway (first time EVER!) and was therefore paying on an actual couch that was being held for me. Apparently Id been paying on a locked in price, not an actual piece of furniture. That said, the couch that I wanted is no longer at that warehouse and the nearest one is in New Carrollton. I had the option of choosing another couch at that same rate, but I didnt see anything I liked online nor when I was in the store. My other options were to have the couch sent to White Marsh from New Carrollton OR purchase the floor model - either of those options could be done, of course once the full price had been paid. Well hello!? Im obviously paying on the couch because the full amount is not available to me. This means that Id continue to pay on something that isnt guaranteed to be there?! How much sense does that make? When I spoke with the manager, Chrissy (Christie?) she answered the phone with a nasty attitude and she carried the conversation with a nasty attitude. Because of all of this, I requested ALL of my money back. Furthermore, Chrissy was only willing to deduct $50 from the floor model despite the fact that several people have already sat their behinds on it!!! I am NOT happy with Chrissys poor customer service! DO NOT shop at this location!

My husband and I purchased two items there. However, they werent available on the same date so, we split up our delivery date. We were told and it was printed on our receipt that the sofa will be delivered on 8/9/16 and the coffee table on 8/30/16. My husband received a call on the Friday before confirming the date and gives us a time for delivery. The time came and went so he called and was told that there was nothing scheduled for us for 8/9/16. He explained what was given to us and still no help. He ask to speak with manager and all of a sudden shes in a meeting. I decided to call the store that it was being shipped to which was the Baltimore west location in Catonsville and was told that thaw White marsh store rescheduled our delivery because the items wasnt available (even though we were told the 9th and received a confirmation call)I explained that no one called to inform us of this change. Now we were told that we couldnt receive our items until the 24th. I informed him that wasnt acceptable and requested a refund. I was told I had to call the Whit marsh location. Called White marsh they blamed it on the Baltimore west location and told us a different time frame. This is why people shop at Bobs Discount Furniture...its hassle free and you get your items when they say and if they are running late they call. Value City you need to step your game up. Will never shop there again!

Employees too worried about making commission and not good customer service. I was making an employee purchase as I work for one of their affiliates. As soon as this was known, EVERYONE stopped helping me. A newer associate began to help me, until her coworkers informed her that she would not get commission for doing so. I understand that these people literally live off of their sales but theres still the customer service aspect. They should hire people with more passion that dont have to feed a family off commission or something. Im sure they would not have wanted to be treated as such. Then the associate wrote down the wrong sku so I got the wrong furniture. I call customer service and the African lady that answered the phone insisted that because it was an associate purchase and no commission was made that nothing could be done. Mind you I wasnt speaking with a manager, just an associate trying to handle something she had no business trying to and should have passed the issue on to her manager. I no longer work for the affiliate company but I will never again shop at value city.
