"The Disney World of Jewelers" is the best description of the place - the store has a celebratory atmosphere complete with fresh baked cookies and champagne. While thats all well and good, when I first set foot into the store I was on guard. Initially, thought the place seemed "plastic" and disingenuous. I was afraid that I wasnt going to receive the help I needed when selecting a ring. But then I was introduced to Mr. Robert Marx - an amazing sales associate. Professional, knowledgeable, and nice, Rob is a genuine guy who was able to put my fears to rest as he helped me through the ring building/buying process. He was once in the same exact situation I was in when he was selecting a ring for his wife. With my budget in mind, Rob presented me with a large set of options, and helped me craft the perfect ring for my fiancee. She has a classic sense of style, distinct but reserved. She needed something that would reflect that, but would also be able to keep up with her as she is a Baltimore City Public School teacher. Therefore, I chose the pictured engraved ring with peekaboo diamond with an emerald cut stone. The stone is 1.2ct, with VVS1 clarity with M color which cost me $2,500. I agonized over the stone thinking it wasnt perfect because I thought the color was "off". I constantly bothered Robert with texts and phone calls about alternative options. But then I realized I was just being crazy. If youre reading this, Rob - Im sorry I annoyed you outside of work so much, I was a nervous wreck before the proposal. The ring camera, and "warranty" plan are unique to Smyth. I opted for both. You can rent the ring camera for a small fee and you can record the entire proposal. My proposal will remain buried and hidden away because I might have had a little too much to drink when I proposed. The "warranty" plan is useful because it basically covers any and all damage to the ring, which will be needed because my fiancee is a very active woman. Additionally, I purchased my own ring from Smyth. It once belonged to my father. He died when I was 12 years old, and my mother wished for me to have it. Originally, it was just a plain beat up gold ring. I wanted an engraved styling that would match my fiancees ring, but stand out on its own. I wish I had a "before" picture...because what they did with it was amazing, I didnt even recognize it. I just want to say thank you to Smyth, and thanks again to Robert Marx. My fiancee and I are grateful customers, and appreciate the exceptional service.

At the outset, I want to say I had a very good experience with Smyth. I was a novice wading into this business of buying an engagement ring for my girlfriend. I am glad I took my girlfriend with me the first time I went to the store so I could get an idea of what she liked (I am sure I would have missed the ring that I ended up buying for her). So there are essentially two halves of engagement ring shopping. You look at all the engagement ring settings, and then you look at some diamonds that could match them. Smyth had the largest selection of settings by far of all the jewelers that I went to. The selection of diamonds was lacking, in my opinion. I told the salesman my preference of color, clarity, and carat (about 0.50 carat). I saw only three diamonds that night. And they all had some preference mismatch that I could not overlook. One was too yellow, one was too large, and the last had unacceptable inclusions. Nonetheless, I put a hold on a diamond. I love the Smyth 100 day, 100% guarantee. I felt like I could put some money down on a diamond while I shopped around at other stores (because I knew that I could get my money back no questions asked). I do not know why I was not shown more diamonds. Wouldnt the salesman show me some more, at least to try to get me to spend my money? Clearly, I expressed my dissatisfaction with those diamonds. I felt like I could not make a choice among many options like I could with the settings. After I left that day, I bought a diamond on Blue Nile. I saw all the specs for the diamonds, and I could really choose. I got the diamond I wanted based on specs and went back to Smyth. I said my only concern that time was to get the best diamond. The salesman curiously only brought me one new diamond to look at. And this one had small black inclusions in it (so of course I was not going to get it). In the end I used my Blue Nile diamond with the setting I got from Smyth. In conclusion, I love their selection of settings. The small selection of diamonds was unexpected. With my Blue Nile diamond, I think I made a wise purchase.

Smyth is hands down the best jewelry store around. After searching for an engagement ring from the online retailers I decided to stop into Smyth to take a look at a 1 carat pear shaped halo band that my fiance was interested in...I wanted to see it in person before purchasing online. Walking through the doors I immediately declined the "Can I have someone help you find something" line and darted over to the engagement ring section I looked for a solid 10 minutes and even said to myself "Wow no pushy salesman here" (If you have ever been in a jewelry store in the mall they can be down right annoying) Not long after this did I find the ring. I asked to see the ring I was interested in and was greeted by Rob Marx. Rob explained the ring to me and told me if I were interested to leave a deposit considering it was there only ring remaining in that style and with the engagement on such short notice (4 weeks). I was then tasked with figuring out the sizing (Here is where I am glad I did not go the online route!) Rob was an expert on sizing and even gave me a mandrel to take home and size some of my future fiances rings! I came back the next day to purchase the ring and have it sized in a week! Every time I walked through the doors at Smyth they make you feel like youre their best customer. Buy your ring at Smyth take it from a guy that purchases EVERYTHING from the internet and nothing from a retail store this place is truly special and not even comparably to their competitors. Thanks again to everyone at Smyth Jewelers in Timonium! EDIT: I dropped of "The ring cam" and Nick was finished our video in such a quick turn around! He even pulled pictures from our social media accounts and added a slide show! Above and beyond thank you to Smyth!!!!!!

I went in to sell several items the other day and although it was close to closing time they were more than happy to help but once the buyer and other sales people got involved it was terribly rushed. There was one bracelet, that I specifically told the first person I spoke with, I didnt know much about and was interested in any info they could provide about it before I decided to sell it or not. Once everyone got involved I basically was told a total price for some of items as they still looked at they other jewlery I brought in. Once I realized they were basically telling me what we were doing I seed to speak with the buyer again bc wasnt happy with price and had not gotten any information about the bracelet I asked about initially. But the buyer had already left and person I was now dealing with wouldnt budge on the price, I shouldnt have told them I had medical issues and needed the money bc it seemed like they were salvaging after that. Every piece I sold them was basically flawless, and from designers like Tiffany & Co. Once I had time to think I realized how bad the offer was and that I never even got any information on the bracelet that was very important to me for reasons other than money. They had a few negative comments about it yet quickly offered $1000+ for it, but didnt tell me anything about it and again the buyer was gone and they had basically had already done the paperwork and took the items before I ever agreed to deal. they knew I was between a rock and hard place and they took advantage of the situation.
