I wonder if I am shopping at the same store as the other reviewers. Small Store. LAZY employees. Before answering any questions you get the "look"... Like.. Really? But only if they dont dodge you first. Cashiers are rude... not a smile.. not a hello... rarely a thank you. The sales personel do not know their supplies. I tried to buy something to remove cat urine smell from a rental property and they tried to give me an air freshener. The only reason I stop there is because it is on my way home from work and Home Depot is another 4 miles away from the house. They rarely have what I am looking for and when they do it is WAY more expensive than Home Depot. Im not a big Home Depot fan but I do like to save money. We need a Lowes around here!

I would hate to see this place close because despite its many shortcomings, its pretty convenient having a hardware store right in my neighborhood. That said, the selection is pretty bad and I have frequently questioned why I, yet again, stopped at Hardware City when a part turns out to be poor quality, or they, not surprisingly, dont have the part I need. I would very much welcome a Strosniders in this location, so Strosniders, if youre listening, PLEASE open a store in Kensington. Strosniders would do exceptionally well -- even Hardware City, with its mediocre service, lousy prices, and horrible selection, has stayed afloat for decades. Believe me, the customer base is here... just provide us with the service we need.

I absolutely enjoy going to Hardware City. The staff, there is so attentive and the supervisor, Jonatan I believe is his name, is awesome! I usually come in for minor requests like key battery change but today I went in for a headache of a request. I needed help putting together one of my camera gear parts and it took almost an hour to complete the task. I was so grateful that the supervisor was so willing and kind to help me, not once did he complain or seem to be upset, instead he joked about the situation and was very pleasant. I definitely recommend this place because I know that they will go above and beyond to help you before turning you away.

They have items you need in a pinch; thus, two star rating. Staff are unfriendly and cashiers are downright rude and would rather text on their cell phones than ring-up your purchase. Ive never heard the cashiers say "thank you" in years of going to the store out of pure convenience because HOMELESS Depot is over four miles away. Prices far exceed Home Depot and Lowes. . For example, an LED light bulb that is $5 in Home Depot costs $16 in this store. Dont expect much help in this store and if you must pay for Ace Hardware, use the Bethesda or Takoma Park Ace locations as both are awesome with customer service.

I have been shopping there since they moved in to replace a grocery store that used to be in that spot. I have always found them very helpful. May years ago I was putting together a wooden shed which I purchased as a kit from them. I called up and they found an employee who had put the same shed together and he talked me through the process. I am happy to buy books online and drive a distance for many items but I hope my local hardware store always stays there.

Always have what I need in a pinch. And there is always someone available to answer questions or find someone who can. Less selections is actually a plus. I dont need 13 of the same thing to choose from. One time There was literally a guy walking around practically shouting, "if anyone needs help, I am your man!" He was. Steered me right on two very different problems.

i hate to be tough on this place because it has this mom and pop feel. However it is old as dusk and smells like fertilizer. You wonder if the stuff has been on the shelves for ten years. The staff is very knowledgeable but prices easily 30% more than home depot and selection is a tenth. I would recommend if you need something quick and is closer than a home depot.

I have visited a few times. The staff was nice to me and answered my questions. I purchased a pair of pruning shears (different sizes), and yes they were more expensive than Home Depot, however completely different brand than the big stores, better quality, ergonomic and good design. I do not regret my purchase at all :)

Skip Home Depot or Lowes. They have everything here. Its way smaller in size, but not selection. And the prices are almost always better. The staff is always friendly and knowledgeable. Someone is ALWAYS there to answer a question, help you locate something, and offer some friendly advice.

Very helpful folks. What a nice repreive from other buisnesss that dont bother themselves with customer service. many things I need...as small as a simple screw to fix items around the house! Great service is the motto here....Thank Goodness!

Local store with a good selection. Its not as large as a Home Depot, so of course they have less selection but its a good local local hardware store. The people are friendly and if you live in the area, very convenient.

Prices are double from what iis in Home Depot. I ynderstand few dollars, but Double... this is crazy...$36 for a gallon of primer, that is only $19 at home depot... I wont waste my time to go there anymore.

august 2009, the clerk actually said i cant help you, that department is a mess and walked right by me. other clerks walked by looking the other way. they used to be helpful.

Great selection, helpful friendly staff (and lots of them!)- its so quick to just park so close and run in and get something - it saves a lot of time over the box store.

Terrible! More than half the shelves are empty. I couldnt even find a basic electrical tester. It looks like theyre in the process of going out of business.

They always seem to have the hardware we need and it its easy to get in and out quickly. Certain things like carpet and washing machines they dont have.
