Im leaving this review as a challenge to the staff here. Weve shopped at this store for years to provide custom to an Iowa-owned business, and because, up until recently, weve found the staff here to be friendly and competent. That is why, when my 11 year old saved his money for months to buy the new game system on pre order, we suggested he purchase his copy here. We were told when we pre-paid that he would be on the second shipment of games, so not to expect a call on release day. Fine. Then the eve of release day arrived, and low and behold Video Games ETC called to report a copy for him would be available on release day! He was ecstatic, floating on a cloud of adrenaline all day. We went to the store to pick it up and were told that we shouldnt have been called. Worse, workers insinuated we were lying that we had received a call at all. My son was crushed. After getting the call the previous day, he had planned his first weekend with the system out as intricately as he planned his savings for the pre order. In one sense, I am grateful this store has taught my son the valuable lesson that not everything in life will go your way. Sometimes people get your hopes up and then disappoint you. On the other hand, this seems like an avoidable mistake. Herein lies my challenge to the Video Games ETC staff; do better. Be more organized. Double check your work. Remember that for some of your customers, a mistake like this represents a let-down of epic proportions. My son will grow up remembering this experience as he continues to make video game purchases for the rest of his life. Perhaps hell forgive and forget, but is that a gamble you can afford to take with your youngest customers, particularly when there are other options available? Just some food for thought.

Not too hard to find. The employees seem to know a thing or two about the games. Though, for a specialty store thats not surprising. Biggest weakness Ive seen is customer service: For the World of Warcraft expansion they had pre-orders for the regular game & the more expensive collectors edition. They failed to get the collectors edition for people who payed extra & failed to notify the people until 2 days before it came out. So the people couldnt cancel their order & pre-order the collectors edition from another retailer. I personally had a bad experience recently. I accidentally purchased a game for the wrong system, I realized it within about 10 minutes of buying it, but it was after Id already opened the packaging. So when I rushed back to the store, they would only take it back as "used" & give me a fraction of the price. I couldnt exchange it for the correct game or get store credit. Though, in general with retailers, theres a trend not to accept back "opened" electronics. So I thats how it goes, unfortunately.

Pre ordered a game weeks before it came out. They did not have it on launch day, told me to come back around noon because that is when their shipment comes in. They then tell me that it is delayed and Ill have to try back the next day. Because I paid for part of it store credit, they wont let me get a full refund to buy it somewhere that actually HAS it. I am forced to wait for a game I pre ordered well in advance so I didnt have to wait.

PSA: Do not buy any sort of console from this terrible store. I bought an Xbox 360 from this place that did not read discs and will not connect to the internet. They then refused to let me exchange or return the broken device. Never again will I buy anything from this place. Terrible customer service!

Just an average game store, I DONT THINK SO!!! Great selection with awesome customer service. The employees here really know what theyre talking about. Its also cool how they have retro games unlike the big box retailers. Overall, very please with my experience at the store.

Good place to buy and sell games. Much better than trying to go to gamestop. Sometimes a little slow given the short staffing and frequently large customer base, but all in all, the convenience of a large chain with the feel and attention of a mom and pop store.

Has a wide variety of games, not just for current systems but going all the way back to original Nintendo. Staff is very knowledgeable and easy to talk to. Missing the extra star simply because the store is a bit small for everything they have.

I spent 40 dollars on a Guitar hero and a guitar for Xbox one they gave me a dongle that was for xbox 360 and the guitar is scratched and just not very happy i wish i could give them negative stars.
