Coming from a family of small business owners I like to support local shops as it helps the community. And also as a fiancé and a brother of runners we buy tons of running shoes. So we need a running store. Lol. We went to fitness sports for the first time like 7yrs ago when my sister ran xc in highschool and college and she had decent service among the years. This past year I got engaged to a runner and she runs a lot! I mean $1,000 worth of shoes a year! So I mentioned fitness sports would be a good option to start. Got her a gift certificate to buy shoes and she received service but it wasnt as good as my sisters experience. So I said maybe it was the person you got and I said go one more time just to make sure. We went again and received worse service then the time before. The owner was trying to tell my fiancée how to run. Which we both thought was funny since she has run tons of half marathons and proven to be successful with a certain type of shoe. Needless to say the owner continued badgering about silly stuff and insulted us and we were offended. We arent going here anymore. Im upset that the owner took this approach but Im not going to spend more money just to get treated badly. If you need a running store I recommend: The Running Room in West Des Moines, IA next to NYC Pizza (another great local business that has excellent food and great people) We have had continued great experiences and heck I even got a pair of running shoes. Although I dont put on many miles as my fiancée does. Lol. But they treated me like I just ran a marathon and finished first place. First time I got excited about running.

Horrid customer service from the OWNER of the business. I was fitted for shoes 10 days ago after explaning my needs for stable shoes for tennis and aerobics. Tried the shoes and my feet still hurt. I took the shoes back today to ask for an exchange. Owner needed to approve the return. He came out of his office and berated me thinking I was a different customer. He said " we told you not the buy those shoes but YOU DIDN"T LISTEN to us. You just had to have these shoes". I had never met this gentlemen before and he was not in the store when I purchased. I told him that he must be mistaken because Id never met him before. I also explained that I bought the shoes recommended and never declined the salesmen advice. He retorted, " You would say that." I told him Id like to do an exchange as they were regarded as the "professional shoe store". He retorted" We dont sell the kind of shoes YOU need" as if I were Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. Was he saying that because Im overweight, he could never fit me with shoes? He refused to talk to me as I tried to diffuse the situation. He rambled on and on about how he was here when they tried to keep me from getting the shoes (again, this did not reflect the purchasing experience I had) Ive never been treated so poorly by a BUSINESS OWNER in my life. For an employee to do this would not reflect poorly but the owner of the business was rude beyond comprehension and gave the indirect hint that people like me cannot get shoes from him. Trust me, I wont.

I just bought my second pair of running shoes from Fitness Sports & I was again so thankful & comfortable to have done so. I have done a lot of research of the past 22 years as a young woman to aging runner in order to find shoes that fit my body, feet (high arches), & stride. I have previously bought online & at bigger chains, but have adopted buying locally the past 6 years or so if possible. Recently after shopping around at a couple other locally-owned shops (to see whats out there), I made my final stop at Fitness Sports because I knew theyd have what I needed if all else failed (based on my first purchase there)...and they did. Again I found very staff that listened and were helpful & knowledgable to advise, and they werent pushy to sell (which I found elsewhere, unfortunately). They also affirmed my own research regarding the direction of shoe thats right for me (a competing local shop talked down to me & tried steering me in the completely wrong direction--red flag--so this extra attention and consideration was appreciated). My boyfriend also purchased his third pair of shoes there, as well as quality running shorts, all of which were SO reasonably priced, which is great, but especially for the beginning runner that he is. Also GREAT hours for a local biz! Ill be going back for my next pair without shopping around elsewhere in the future! Keep up the great work & thanks what you do for our community!

This was one of my worst shopping experiences. I bought some Saucony shoes through the Saucony website. Long story short Saucony offered to replace my shoes and ask me to go to a store that sells their shoes and get fitted for the appropriate shoe. I went in and met a sales rep. I explained the situation and he flat out said "so you arent actually (pause)... wanting to purchase..." and I said, "yes I am going to use my credit from Saucony first." I mentioned they suggested this. After he realized that I was not buying shoes that day he pretty much gave up. He was rude and short. He didnt take any time to really talk about the shoes that would be a good fit or anything. His attitude was sooooo noticeable that it was awkward and I just wanted to get out of there. At the end I made some notes and actually was looking for a few small accessories but decided to bail. Saucony asked me for the name of the sales rep. I asked the guy and he just said the store name. I said no I was asked to list the sales rep and he flat out refused to give me his name! Honestly I will NEVER EVER shop at this store ever again. I realized I wasnt in the market to buy that day but I would have in the future since the online shopping I did had ended into a hassle. They will never get my business.

I was very impressed with my experience with Fitness Sports! I have been having trouble with a variety of shoes leaving my feet battered and hurting after workouts and a friend recommended I try Fitness Sports to get some help finding shoes that would help rather than hurt. When I walked in they were very busy, as track season is just starting up, but an employee greeted me and told me that someone would be with me as soon as they could. Soon an employee freed up and despite the crowd he took time to look at my old shoes to see where they were wearing, and to listen to me about my various aches and pains in an effort to find the right shoes for me. I was fitted with a pair of shoes and instructed to head to the back hallway, where they allow you to walk and/or run in the shoes to ensure that they are indeed what you are looking for. After many pairs were tried, I found one that I thought were great, but he still tried on a few more just to be sure. I walked away with the most comfortable shoes I have owned in a long time, and a lasting impression for sure! The prices were great, the service was phenomenal, and I will definitely be taking the entire family there for shoes from now on!
