I found what I was looking for (Mortite) this time after being misdirected by young employees to three departments on two floors. Finally found a generic version hidden behind the foam weatherstripping. Menards can be good for big purchases and the odd item.... Weve bought cabinets, garden supplies, electrical fixtures, plumbing fixtures, and miscellaneous items - dog biscuits, tie downs, barbecue sauce, Cheez balls, bacon, and a battery tester - at various times. But sometimes youd be better off going to a local hardware store where the folks are a little more mature and interested in being, you know, helpful. And I dont know if you really save more money.

I have been in this store 3 times in the last couple weeks and on all three occasions the front line employees were rude and appeared to hate life and looked upset to be working. The girls at the returns desk when you first enter the store were rude and not helpful, the checkout girl was more interested in her cell phone then working and the girl at the service desk seemed clueless and uninterested. On the other hand, I found the employees within the store to be very helpful and polite, smiled and were more than willing to help with questions I had.

I ALWAYS ENJOY MY TRIPS TO MENARDS. THE STORE IS VERY ORGANIZED AND CLEAN. I CAN USUALLY FIND WHAT I WANT WITHOUT ASKING FOR ASSISTANCE. WHEN I DO NEED HELP STAFF ARE VERY HELPFUL & PLEASANT. I DID HAVE PROBLEMS WITH A COUPLE OF ITEMS I BOUGHT TODAY. I BOUGHT 3 FLAMING MOSQUITO REPELLENT STICKS. ONE DIDNT HAVE A WICK AND ANOTHER COMPLETELY DISINTEGRATED A FEW MINUTES AFTER BEING LIT!!!? I have ALWAYS BEEN PLEASED WITH THE PRODUCTS MENARDS SELLS BUT I AM DISAPPOINTED WITH MY EXPERIENCE TODAY!!

2 male associates in flooring avoided twice. They saw me in the same isle continued their small chat and moved to next isle. I moved as well to put them to the test. Sure enough, as they saw browsing and getting closer to them, they walked right past me without asking if I needed help. Oh well, I will purchase 1500² ft of flooring elsewhere. I give it 2 stars because I was greeted at electrical department, the cashier and a supervisor by customer service desk.

This store has amazing employees. I recently spent around 5k in materials to build a garage behind my house. Im not a contractor, so had many questions. Every person that i dealt with were so helpful. Ben was my delivery coordinator, he was extremely knowledgeable. So helpful... the staff makes this menards my favorite. The staff at outdoor yard lacked in service/help.

One of the larger Menards stores Ive been to. Has a wide selection of materials in the lumber yard, great outdoor seating and plants, and any other type of home improvement goods you might want. If you are picking up materials from the yard, youre better off going inside and ordering from the materials counter, as nobody ever seems to be around outside to help.

A real full service store- Pros: has lots of stuff even non- big box lumber store stuff e.g food (milk and pizza). Opens most the the cash out lanes to streamline getting out of the store. small collection of hardwoods. Workers are friendly. Cons: if you are looking for a good selection of fine woodworking materials e.g. walnut plywood, do not carry Makita

I really like this Menards. Peter in the lighting department was especially helpful. He helped me visualize what one of the light fixtures would look like and actually reminded me to buy light bulbs. He told me which ones I needed and everything. Its the little things that help improve the shopping experience.

In Golden Valley MN, Hodgkins IL and Kalamazoo MI, my favorite big box stores. Well organized, get answers to questions and good return policy. These stores are not AWESOME....a volcano eruption is awesome. These stores are really good places to shop for DIY types like me.
