I spent nearly 31 years on active duty in the U.S. Navy, living and biking all over the world. This past year, I found the best bicycle shop in Asia, Europe, or the USA. It’s the Cyclery and Fitness Center in Edwardsville. I used to think that honor went to Die Speiche (The Spoke) in Stuttgart, Germany. But no more. The expert advice and the huge selection on the floor of the Cyclery is top notch but their Service Department in particular is simply superior. Matt provided an outstanding analysis of what it would take to prepare my seven-year-old Gold Rush recumbent for a trek along Route 66 from the Santa Monica pier to the Chicago waterfront. The work was scheduled and then done on time and on budget. He also advised me on nutritional considerations. This past May I rode the bike the entire length of Route 66, which totaled 2,402 miles, in 30 days and climbed a total of 78,593 feet without a single mechanical failure. There were spots in the High Mojave Desert where there wasn’t any support for over 50 miles, so trusting that the job was done right the first time was critical for my peace of mind. They did a great job! I heartily recommend the Cyclery staff as an experienced group of professionals that can be trusted for sound advice, top-quality equipment and superior service whether you are riding across town or across the country.

I have been been buying bikes and parts from The Cyclery for at least 30 years. I remember Steves first shop on Main St. and buying bikes and parts from him. It sure is not the shop it used to be. After my experience with store employee Betsy today, I am done with The Cyclery. Their prices are high and as other reviewers have noted certain employees are rude, especially Betsy. This is not true of all their employees but all it takes is one bad apple to spoil the whole bunch and that is enough to prevent me from going back to the store. It is sad that is has come to this, losing a 30 year customer that has spent thousands at the The Cyclery, but never again will I step foot in this shop when such a rude uncaring employee works there. I bought just short of $100 in parts today and and do not get so much as a thank you, but do get a condescending look and plenty of attitude. At least another bike shop opened down the street and The Cyclery finally has some competition. They had been the only shop in the area for years. I will be trying out the new store and not stepping foot in The Cyclery as long as Betsy and her attitude are working there. The couple of times I have been to the new shop everyone was very nice, I hope they keep it up and they will have me as a long time customer.

Bought a very nice bike last week for a great price. It was a busy Sunday, but when I finally got someone to help me, I told them that I would like to test ride the bike. He got it down and took it to the back for adjustments and I was able to ride it. I decided I would like to buy it and he went and got the paperwork ready. I was looking at accessories and the sales guy was rushing me to check out, so they lost all accessory sales from me that day. The bike had been on clearance for $599 but also had a previous sale sign on it for $670 and an original price tag of $1060. The sales guy tried to charge me $670 + taxes etc.. I said there was another tag on it for $599. He went to the back and said that the other price tag on it said $1100... Good thing I had a picture of the clearance price on my phone or I wouldve walked away. Make sure you take pictures of the prices because they just throw them away apparently. Even more surprised that there was no offer to help me load it in my car. Rude sales man that day. I usually like the other guys working there though. Nice bikes too.

This bike shop has been around for decades – they are clearly doing something right. For me, it is the quintessential local bicycle shop and Ive been shopping there for decades – now at their third location. They carry a wide variety of cycling equipment from tricycles for little kids to professional racing bicycles exactly like the pros race on tv. Prices are always reasonable especially considering that they stand behind their products with excellent service. High quality is the hallmark of this bicycle shop; products, service, and experienced cyclists working there to provide genuine advice. And this high-quality commitment extends to all of their other products including fitness equipment and footwear. Some people may need the glitz of the Big City Bicycle Shop and some people may be trying to scrape by with a department store bike, so this shop may not be for people like that. But, if youre looking for an honest cycling experience these folks can help you out. No need to go anywhere else!

Ive taken my bikes to this shop on multiple occasions, and have never been thrilled about the prices, customer service, or job done. They once charged me $60 just to look the bike over and grease some parts. My most recent encounter with The Cyclery has left me most unsatisfied. I took my bike in because it was not shifting gears properly and the chain would sometimes fall completely off the gears in mid-shift. I explained the issue to them, and they told me it would only cost $15 but that I wouldnt get it back for several weeks because they were backed up. In actuality, I got a call back in about a week. After I paid for the bike and took it home, however, I found that ABSOLUTELY NOTHING HAD BEEN DONE TO MY BIKE. I paid $15 for them to hold on to my bike for a week, and every gear shifting problem I had before was still an issue. Im finished messing around with The Cyclery. Someone else can have my business from now on.

i have done business with The Cyclery since about 1993. Recently, I made the now 75 mile trip, one way, to do business with them once again. I was worth the drive. I went over to see 1 or maybe 2 bikes. When we arrived Eric, my consultant, had not 2 but 4 bikes ready for me to try. One of which he hadnt even mentioned; ironically, i was a bike that I had heard about , read about, and wanted to test drive, but by the time I had done enough research the price had gone up by 350.00. Eric had one ready for me to test Drive; a Giant Defy 1 with disc brakes. He quickly put a bike together for my wife to go on my test drive with me. I also had taken my mountain bikes from 93 and they tuned them while we were on our test ride, they were done tuning by the time we got back. Lifetime tune-ups mean life time free tune-ups here. Thanks Eric and The Cyclery Team

This shop either gets one star or five stars! How can THAT be? Read the reviews for a clue. This is a great shop. They HAVE to be as they sell and service some of the finest bikes on the planet. But they DO have bicycles for all levels of cyclists - you dont have to be a pro racer to shop here! There is something here for everybody...unless, of course, youre trying to scrape by on a dime-store bike and dont want to spend any money at all. Honest, dependable, and efficient is what you get here. Its my shop of choice and Im very well satisfied with it.
