Honest to goodness, I never ever write reviews but I feel as though this one is very necessary! I live in Rogers Park & loved walking to the Market regularly with my son as I am a stay at home parent, until one day I was in line waiting to pay for my items and was accused of stealing. The kicker for me was that I offered to show the cashier my receipt and items were from Family Dollar and I had purchased them right across the street before I had come into the market. After she declined seeing my receipt she proceeded to follow me as I was pushing my childs stroller out of the door. I happened to see her and walked back in and asked if there were an issue? I spoke with the owner who was standing right there at the front of the store the entire time & did not handle the situation as an owner should, but instead tried to make me feel bad because as he said, "others steal out of his establishment," which has nothing to do with me!!!!! He ALSO patronized me by trying to high-five me & brush the whole thing off as if it was nothing major!!! He has seen me on more than a few occasions with and without my family! I felt horrible! I was embarrassed! With my child in front of this Market, in front of other customers being accused of stealing!!! After reading some of the reviews I see that this is an ongoing issue with the "OWNER" of this Market! This should not be continually allowed!!! I WILL NEVER EVER SHOP HERE EVER AGAIN & I ENCOURAGE OTHERS NOT TO AS WELL! HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED WITH THE "CUSTOMER SERVICE "!

After 15 years, I give up on this store. Bluntly, theyre price gougers. Having changed their inventory to a more "upmarket," boutique crowd, theyve coat-tailed the prices of everyday items onto their more expensive (and extensive) inventory. I wont pay $4.00 for a bag of frozen green beans, $4.00 for a gallon of milk, $1.50 for a can of pumpkin, $6.00 for half a gallon of ice cream, etc. They sell a $9.00 jar of pasta sauce, and one Annies burrito is $3.00. Do you really need to spend $1.79 on a box of baking soda? There arent alternatives here to those prices,by the way -- thats all they have for things of that nature. Point being, unless you can afford to eat everyday at Whole Food prices, this market doesnt want you. Very discouraging for someone who has patronized the store exclusively for 15 years, who doesnt drive, and depended on a market within walking distance to pick up the staples. Others will say theyre good for an "ethnic" item and a small amount of produce, but since most of us will have to go elsewhere anyway, theres no point. Adios, Morse "Fresh" Market (used to be just "Morse Market").

Have you ever had those days where you felt like you wanted to whip up a nice meal, head to your local grocer, and only realize it cost more to buy all the things for one meal than just going out? Well not here! Well actually, if youre buying brand name goods that actually is comprised more of chemicals...than food this may not be your place. Every day they have fresh, HOT, sexy bread in a basket for all your french bread needs. Their meat selection is inexpensive and actually quite tasty. You wont find grade A, premium cut dry aged meat at the butcher shop but they got specialty stores for that. Their produce is FRESH, at least 5 days out of the week (I would know, at one point I almost went every day) and they supply a lot of a local breads and goods from local artisans in Chicago. If you live in a 2-3 mile radius, it is worth your while. It is close to the morse line stop. The good: good fresh produce (usually) everyday, locally produced goods The not so good: brand name stuff is much more expensive so go elsewhere if youre use to buying brand name.

My partner and I came in for a few things and on our way out we were chased by a man, who says hes the owner, demanding (and grabbing) my bag, rummaged through it and grabbed our receipt to see if we had stolen an Arizona tea. When he realized we didnt steal anything he wouldnt apologize and kept insisting that I (a woman) "worry too much". He even went so far as I touch me, by telling me to go away and patting my head in a taunting manner when I asked for an apology or to be reimbursed for my groceries. Humilating and upsetting to be put on display in my neighborhood that way. Living in the city is hard enough for a woman even just making her trip TO the grocery store, I shouldnt have to worry about being harassed at the store, by its OWNER, especially.

This place is the closest grocery to my apartment; however, theyre extremely overpriced. I understand this is a small business and not a chain, but theres plenty of small groceries that Ive been to that dont upsell like this place. Its at least a $1 more for regular milk and organic items tend to be $8+. Kefir is 2.50 at Jewel when its not on sale, here its 3.60+. Some of the produce Ive purchased here has gone bad very quickly or was already bad (like mangoes). Ive also seen bread from Olympia Bakery that had mold growing on it, which made me really hesitant to purchase Polish rye bread here again. TL;DR its close by so its convenient but the quality leaves much to be desired.

I stumbled across this market by chance, and thought that I would go in to see what was available. The first thing that caught my attention was the abundance of quality fruits and vegetables for such reasonable prices. The second thing that caught my attention was that the employees were continuously stocking and cleaning. I found that everywhere I walked for the amount of people in the small market, and wherever I looked it was as though I was the first person there. The selections of meat and cheeses I found to be very reasonable in cost. Additionally the employees were very helpful and pleasant to be around. This market has a little bit of everything, and then some!

Small businesses simply cannot buy in the kind of bulk that allows them to give the discounts offered by larger stores. For this reason, I am willing to pay a little extra to shop locally and support small business. Morse is an excellent example of why small businesses are valuable -- this market offers high quality to the neighbourhood and is one of the amenities of living in Rogers Park. Among their offerings are foods that accommodate allergies and other dietary restrictions, very fresh produce, and a wide variety of ethnic products that simply arent available at larger, corporate stores.

After years living in the neighborhood I finally stopped in recently after the closing of the large grocery stores in the area. I should have been coming here all along! I was pleasantly surprised by the Morse Market, especially the meat and bread selections. While they do carry some name brands, they are the equivalent of a meat market and make their own sausages and cut their own steaks. They also make a wide variety of fresh bread, all at the back of the store. The prices are great too. The only negative about this place is the size, as it can be very cramped when busy with narrow aisles.
