Basically, this is an expensive, upgraded Wal_Mart for sporting equipment etc. Ill cut to the chase. Drove in from Lake Park, 15 miles, this is on a Thursday at 4pm. 11-19-15. Waited and waited for help with camping gear. The guy who is in that department, was at a cash register. Soooooooooo ..with a BIG store like that, I observed there was only ONE DEDICATED person on a register. When busy, they would call someone from the floor, i.e. camping expert guy. Sound like Wal_Mart to you? I will say the staff there, were extremely nice and polite, and kept reassuring me - that someone would be with me soon... but after 26 minutes of being reassured, I left. Nice folks, terrible staffing. UPDATE: 12/09/15 Came in at 4:30 again to give it one more try. This is an HONEST review. Same problem. ONE cashier. Another associate was helping- however he was on the phone, and I counted 4 people waiting, besides the one doing a transaction. I finally found someone in footwear to help me. "Chance" is the guy who helped. Fantastic, helping with my questions, shoe sizing. Couldnt be happier. I decided on a pair of $100.00 Keens. I asked Chance if I could get a discount. In the last two months I have spent well over $400.00. Buying packpacks, hammocks, apparel, etc. He said he thought so, "Let me ask". Well 10 minutes later he came back and apologized saying the manager TELCIA told him NO. If I would have purchased the items together, maybe we could have helped. REALLY? So I paid full price again! I hope everyone who reads this, will think twice about supporting G.M. Academy Sports is where youll find me. David

Well Gander Mountain is closing, but dont rush down thinking you might want to rack up in their deeply discounted items, first as others have pointed out even if they drop their retail price down 20-30% they are still higher than many other local competitors, & most of signs I noted items were only 10% off, plus Guns and Ammo werent discounted at all, with signs stating they would be taking any unsold inventory to other stores. I recently visited, walked out - went to Walmart and purchased ammo at 40% less for same brand. Ive been in this gander mountain location on at least 7-8 times, but only purchased merchandise once, partly due to higher prices, & I was able to locate same item cheaper at Academy sports (for example) but mostly I see the problems being poor management, and an even poorer level of customer service, the one purchase I did make requires me to be extremely patient and finally getting an employee to locate a couple of holsters for my various pistols, unfortunately one had to be returned, as it had been opened and vital pieces were missing, ironically when I returned on a subsequent visit, I noted the defective holster was back on the shelf, waiting for the next unsuspecting customer. Sorry to see any of the employees losing their jobs , but dont think the town will be hurt with the lose of gander mountain.

First off, I live in a small town about 4 hours away, and decided to stop here tonight to look for a handgun for my father while I was in town for labor day weekend. This store is the only one around closest to me to carry the pistol I wanted. I came in 30 minutes before closing and saw a new rifle I wanted for the season. Mr. Lee Turner was the man who helped me. This man gave me outstanding service and wouldnt settle for okay, he surpassed my expectations and made sure I got the most bang for my buck. Needless to say, I ended up buying the rifle after hours and he was in no rush to leave before he helped me with anything I needed even when he was off the clock. He has only been in retail for about 10 days and I swear he has been doing it all his life by the way he treated me and my girlfriend. I will personally drive 4 hours anytime I need firearm related items, and will personally ask for him, and I suggest you do as well. I promise he will surpass your expectations as he did mine. If you read this Mr. Turner, please keep up the good job. Sincerely, Justin Evans

Worst customer service! I was looking to purchase my first gun from this establishment. When I walked into the building no one greeted me. It was my first time going there, so I was not familiar with the building. As I walked around the store searching for the guns, no one asked me if I needed help or if I was doing ok. No one working spoke to me at all. When I finally reached the gun area, I walked past every glass gun case, just looking and waiting to be helped. No one still. When I saw something I was interested in, I proceeded to ask one of associates for help. As I began speaking to him, he looked at me and said he could not help me and walked away. He did not offer to get someone else to help me either. After that, I left. That was my first and only time going. It was one of the worst and most unprofessional experiences I have ever had!

Ive never managed to actually buy anything from these guys. Ammo is wildly overpriced, Wal Mart is right next door at less than half the price for the exact same stuff. Guys at the gun counter are functionally illiterate, always want me to give my gun to them (I OC). Go ahead, ask them a simple question to which you already know the answer. Theres going to be a conference as they try to rub their collective brain cells together, and arrive at the wrong conclusion. They cant even properly identify the makes and models they have on their own shelf, yet act very authoritative. Even the simple act of mounting a scope, they cant do it. Ive never managed to get any help while in the fishing department(s)... On the up side, they have Heat, A/C, indoor plumbing, and the roof doesnt leak. Yet.

Went to this location with a gift card and saw this special. Notice how large the font is for the $14.99 price is vs the font for the "Was Price". So then look at the very small font that says "After $5 Mfrs Rebate". Got to the counter thinking that I would get immediate credit for Rebate at check out. No sir. I was handed two pages of documents to fill out to send into the Manufacturer to get the rebate along with the UPC code from packaging and the sales receipt. Who advertises like this? Total reason on why they should go out of business. The Office of Consumer Protection would have a field day with this asterisk advertising in Georgia. Im done if they stay in the market or not.

My family and I took a day trip from Tallahassee to Valdosta to check out Gander Mountain. My young son bought a mineral block for deer with his money he saved. Unfortunately the block was left out of the bag. I contacted the Manager Mr. Sawyer and explained what happened and we were already back in Tallahassee. He was so kind! He took my address and immediately shipped my sons mineral block to my door with no hesitation. My son opened the box to find his mineral block and a complementary Gander Mountain hat. I truly appreciate people like Mr. Sawyer who take the small step to ensure happy customers. We will def. take the trip to Valdosta Gander Mountain again!!
