I will NOT select Clothes Mentor for my future needs. On the evening of 2/4/15 I went to CM to do some shopping. The staff did not greet me when I came in. They looked preoccupied with other things so I went about my business looking through the racks. I selected about 6 items and walked into an open dressing room. Two sales ladies were standing there and said nothing to me. When I came out I put the items on the rack designated for "things that are not going home". Again nobody even said they were sorry the clothes didnt work out, or can I help you with a different size? Meanwhile, a man and his wife walked in. Immediately they were welcomed and asked their name by a sales person. The couple had a British accent and they were given the Royal treatment, red carpet and all. The sales lady told them she wanted them to have an extraordinary experience, asked what they were looking for, showed them where to find their winter and summer selections, explained the stores policy of gently used items, explained it was not a consignment store, and offered help them with every selection and size. Asked them how their vacation was going, on and on it went. I guess she was hoping they were going to drop some big bucks in her store so she would treat the visitors like royalty and a local like a nobody. Then a second lady came into the store who was greeted by the other sales lady on duty. She was asked her name and was also told she would have a wonderful experience shopping at Clothes Mentor. Her name was repeated about 10 times while she was in there shopping. She was told she should step out of her comfort zone and buy something bright and colorful. The sales lady picked out dresses for her to try on, and of course told her she looked magnificent in everything. She even said, "you look hot as a button in that dress." It was like they were lifelong friends in the span of 20 minutes. I was in and out of the dressing room two times and not one sales person said a word to me even though I had arrived before the aforementioned customers. Im sorry, but I was neatly dressed in clothing that I bought at that very store! I was also well groomed with my hair and makeup. But I was made to feel like chopped liver- like I didnt matter. The icing on the cake came when I went to the register to pay for a blouse I picked out. The girl at the register was very nice (no complaints there). But MY transaction was interrupted by the store manager, Mary. (I was so infuriated with her actions, I called when I got home and asked for her name). My purse was open because I was waiting to get my credit card back Mary interrupted the girl at the register to ask, "What happened to that pearl necklace that was just laying here by the register?" The girl said she didnt know. Mary persisted with- It was just here, what happened to it, did someone put it away, oh how this scares me when something goes missing, where could it be? Then she gave me a suspicious look because I was standing in the vicinity of the missing necklace. My blood began to boil at not only the rudness of the whole ordeal, but now I have to deal with her carrying on about a missing necklace. Well guess what...SHE FOUND THE NECKLACE IN A BUCKET BEHIND THE COUNTER! Then she tried to laugh it off about how it makes her so nervous when something is missing. Guess what, Mary and Clothes Mentor- you have a customer missing for all time. I live in Palm Harbor and I have many choices including Jays Closet where they are always welcoming!

Let me start by saying I have no problem with the "guidelines" for selling an item. I went in with an armful of wrinkled, albeit clean, designer clothes and purses, most over a year old, and yes, I did have a few on hangers ("No hangers", I was told). Huh? I wasnt trying to sell the hanger! Anyway, if Ms. Murdock could have stuck her nose up any higher, I think it would have touched her forehead. Her demeanor, tone, and body language (hope she sanitized after I left) were nothing that defines "successful business" in my book. Maybe shed had a less than stellar weekend selling? Well, guess what, we ALL did! But did I cop an attitude with the buyers at my yard sale for that? Nope. Even gave em free stuff! Karma, baby. Anyway, my not shopping there ever is not going to cause the owners any grief. And even my rant here wont either. And thats okay. But I will say this and I firmly believe this, "a chain (this is a franchise) is only as strong as its weakest link." It was not what you said (at least most of it), but how you said it. Oh yeah, and your lack of any kind of cordial greeting or smile, or courtesy. Oh, and the young clerk - thank you. Im sure youre doing the best you can under the circumstances. So was the store busy? Nope. And did I have an attitude myself? Not a chance. I came in humble as pie hoping to maybe make enough to pay for a gallon or two of gas. If this woman had shown the least bit of courtesy and expressed an ounce of empathy, I wouldnt be writing this. But Im about fed up with those who lack such traits and who seem to just be mad because they cant have it all and dont want you to have any either. Just saying. Theyre probably just in over their heads with too much inventory. If thats the case, then say it; theres no need to be snarky and rely on corporate doublespeak. Just be honest. "Weve got too much crap and cant sell what we have." Works for me! Merry Christmas! Oh, and I have some lovely items Id love to sell you all for just a few bucks!:)

Now I know how Julia Roberts felt in Pretty Woman when she first tried to got into a store to buy some clothes and they treated her like trash. I took a load of clothes in, Ralph Lauren, Michael Kors, Chicos, etc. Many of them still had the tags on as I never wore them. Same with a bag full of brand new shoes with tags still on them. They were the snootiest women I have ever encountered in my life and THEY WORK IN A USED CLOTHING STORE! I just wanted someone to get some of these high end clothes at cheaper prices, but this place is ridiculous. Rude, snotty treatment is what youll get if you go here. They returned my clothes and wouldnt even make eye contact with me, like I was some piece of trash that had some gall to go in there. So I took my high priced, brand new clothes back out to my Mercedes and left. I wouldnt ever bother to even look at what their selling, but it is probably over-priced to begin with. Horrid women work here and I agree with another comment below. If they could stick their noses up any higher, theyd touch their forehead. DONT GO HERE unless you want to leave feeling like a worthless ignorant human being which I am not. I now prefer to distribute my expensive clothes to homeless people rather than deal with the women in this shop. I really cannot imagine any of the five women behind the counter could be complimentary of anyone as another reviewer stated. Not one of the five women behind the counter the day I went in could ever offer a nice compliment to anyone. You dont work in a high-class, new clothing store in Beverly Hills so drop the attitude and realize where you work. You sell used clothes at discount prices. You should be more appreciative of people bringing in good quality, brand new clothing. There are plenty of other consignment shops around. I suggest you all find another one to go to ladies and dont bother with this one.
